We have a problem. Gulliver has gone missing, and we only have so much time before we need to head back. It is essential for us to start figuring out where on earth we are in space, so that we know which direction home is. This is where you come in: there are far too many stars around us, but if we each do our part in guessing which constellations they belong to, then on average we'll probably, maybe, figure out where we are. It's the best we can do without the captain around to use the navigation systems.

✨How to Participate

Draw a constellation on one of the starfields below and describe your observations in at least 50 words. Submit both to this thread 7pm EDT on Tuesday August 1st 2023.

1690312648008.png

1690312656435.png

1690312663376.png

It works like this:
Step 1. Look at the sky
1690312678751.png

Step 2. Connect the dots
1690312689176.png

Step 3. Describe your findings in at least 50 words
As you can clearly see, we are heading towards the 🐘 Elephant constellation right now. In the 1800's, the elephant constellation was believed to be where bananas came from, this is something still believed by certain conspiracy groups today. If I recall correctly, we take a right turn at its trunk to get home.

Step 4. (Optional) Include an artistic constellation interpretation to convince your friends that yours is better.
THIS STEP IS OPTIONAL.
It is not a requirement for getting your entry accepted. It is also not a replacement for step 2. Instead it's just for fun, or to try convincing others to vote you for crew favourite.
Your drawing, if you include one, must at least roughly follow the perspective/layout of your constellation. Cleaning up and tweaking the lines is allowed. Adding details, colours, backgrounds etc is all fair game!

✨Rules

To make sure we don't get lost and strand the entire crew out in the middle of deep space, please make sure to consider the following:
  • Your entry must be drawn on top of the images provided at the top of this post. Do not make or add stars yourself!
  • Your entry needs to include both a constellation and a description (at least 50 words) to be accepted.
  • Optional constellation drawings (step 4) are not a valid replacement for the constellation (step 2) itself.
  • There is no set theme for the constellations.
  • Do not edit your entry once submitted. If your entry needs to be changed, please reach out to @Mick.
  • Your entry needs to be signed with your TBT username.
  • Your constellation drawing fits the following criteria:
☑️ Do:
❌ Don't:
Try to draw lines between the stars like this:
1690312730140.png

to clearly show that you followed the stars.
Draw a single line, making it hard to see whether you actually connected stars
1690312735099.png

(although drawing over some stars is probably inevitable and therefore fine)
Keep your lines straight
1690312742271.png
Add detail by curving lines. If you want a smooth drawing, use optional step 4!
1690312757883.png
1690312766135.png
Your entry does not have to be in the middle.
It also does not need to cover the entire image.
1690312778504.png
Very abstract constellations.
The constellation below does not look like a bear!
1690312788505.png

✨How To Vote

The crew favourites are entirely community-decided. To vote, simply leave a reaction on the post of any entry. You can use either the (y) Like or  Love or any unlocked reaction, they will be added together. Entries that are approved will be marked by the staff with the accepted reaction, but don't wait for this to appear. Feel free to Like/Love any entries at any time!

While you can react to any entry, favourites will be decided only by votes from members of the same quarters.

✨Rewards

For your contribution to our ability to navigate the stars, you will earn:
  • 15 Observatory Tokens and 15 Points for your accepted entry
  • The top 3 crew favourites will earn an additional 8 Observatory Tokens. The top 1 will also receive a Rainbow Crescent Moon Collectible.

✨Submission Checklist

✅ Your entry has your TBT username on it
✅ Your drawing (at least loosely) connects stars into a shape
✅ If you included a coloured drawing, you have also still included your constellation image
✅ Your entry contains a 50+ word description of your observations, including a name for your constellation
✅ You are posting here before 7pm EDT on Tuesday, August 1.

The Slithering Serpent
And up ahead we can see what is known as the slithering serpent 🐍 constellation. It's believed that the mouth of the serpent points to an abandoned planet that was once home to a thriving civilization. However, scientists have yet to locate the planet, even with the advanced equipment we have these days. Still, it's a useful spacemark. If we go through the eye, then we just need to head straight until we reach the manatee constellation.

Galaxy observations today can be used to predict the distant future. Everyone in their respective cabins, regardless of their location, can stare out their windows and see that a Galaxolotl victory is as clear as day. Look how happy this little axolotl is, celebrating the victory at the end of Space Camp.

The Notorious Nesting Bird

Rumor has it, many eons ago, in a galaxy far far away.. The Notorious Nesting Bird has dealt a variety of crime in space. Lots of space cadets and even veterans are aware of the fable where this bird has slain several of other nesting bird that dare steal its spot in the sky full of constellations. Tons of crazed Notorious Nesting Bird fans claim its tail is a clue to get to the next hidden planet.

The Axolotl Constellation, plotted by the ancient Aztects, was supposedly a message from the gods about the importance of Axolotls in their world. It was unearthed earlier this decade, in 2014, archeological evidence for the significance of the constellation, and its supposed relation to the general idea of coincidences and bizarre occurrences in the Aztec and Mayan beliefs. You shouldn't be surprised that, partially in relation to the endangerment of the species, they have appeared all over the place in recent times, even as the mascot of one of the teams at this very camp. Could its appearance here be a sign from the gods or merely a coincidence?

The "Joyful" Pikachu Constellation
Pikachu2.png

This was definitely an "electrifying" find among the stars. We're not sure who exactly discovered this constellation, but we can tell they had plenty of Pokemon knowledge to see this among the stars and put it together. Legends say this Pikachu is joyful and you can see it in their eyes. If you are ever feeling lost, they say follow the direction to where the point of the right ear leads to. The direction you go will lead you to person who you can call a friend and will stick by your side no matter what. Just be sure nothing electrifies you. The static in this area seems to be a bit high naturally for some reason.

This constellation is the majestic Space Octopus Facing Left. Behold its beautiful eye, as well as its multitude of glorious tentacles. No one knows exactly where the Space Octopus is going... other than to the left. But it continues its journey through the cosmos, ever onward into eternity, exclusively to the left.

the lost cadet

" i saw him in the stars..." legends tell the story of a brave space cadet that ventured off to go where no penguin has dared to go
before. they say that he’s still out there, lost among the stars with only two heart shaped balloons to help keep his space ship afloat.
apparently, his best friend on his home island still waits to this day for his return. she wishes on the shooting stars she sees late at night,
and hopes for his safe and speedy return.

"Oh, it's the Good Harvest Fish!"

Discovered in 16XX by a fisherman on his night boat, the Good Harvest Fish constellation resembles a hefty fish hooked onto the end of a fishing rod. It is said that on nights when this constellation is visible, a fisher's catch will be bountiful. The cluster of stars at the fish's mouth point eastwards, so those lost at sea are able to re-orient themselves once they can see the Good Harvest Fish's mouth to their right! (made this up SORRY IF THIS IS NOT HOW THIS ACTUALLY WORKS)

Happy Fishing!

Behold the Birdo constellation, located in the northwest sector of this starfield. This constellation depicts the outline of the well-known Super Mario character of the same name. Notice the clearly defined bow and funnel-shaped nose. Many dangers lie beyond this constellation, including black holes. Space voyagers should steer clear of this constellation at all costs.

The Lone Wolf

A long time ago, a single wolf decided to leave his pack in search of his own place to call home. He never seemed to quite fit in with his pack. He always had his head fixated upon the stars, so he left to find a different, more cozy place among something he loved. Now you see him always among the other stars, still searching for that perfect home. The direction of the nose points anyone to where they need to go.

The King Bee constellation was discovered in 14BC by early astrologers who came up with the first assortment of constellations, parallel to the 12 we know now. Those first few were much more kawaii (exhibit A: King Bee). Those who follow astrology today likely know King Bee by its more common name: Leo.

Hoppip Constellation.png

This is Hoppip, a Pokémon introduced in Pokémon Gold/Silver, and extremely common in the Paldea region in Pokémon Scarlet/Violet. While some student was on her treasure hunt, she was ambushed by a hoard of Hoppips. The Hoppips promised not to start a fight unless if she detects any interesting constellations. So she looked into the sky and found a constellation resembling a Hoppip. The Hoppips rejoiced after seeing one of their kind in the sky, so they left the spot as the trainer continued her treasure hunt.

The UA High School Logo Constellation

You thought that U.A. High School's logo was limited to just a building, did ya? Well just look at the stars! There's a giant U.A. High School logo sitting in the night sky. The logo represents the academy and the hard work students put in every year in order to try and enter it and excel while attending it. Just like this constellation was difficult to create, so too do the Quirk users who enter U.A. find it difficult to become full-fledged heroes. Don't give up when looking for those hard-to-see constellations. Go beyond! Plus ULTRA!

The Amphibial Throne

Frog villagers of the ancient past would gaze up to the skies and tell tales of this fabled throne.
As the legend goes, the chair was more beautiful than the Goddess of the fountain, and the animalistic design brought to mind the savage nature of this mortal coil. Many wars were fought over the illustrious throne. Fearing our world would turn to ruin in its brilliance, the Amphibial Throne released a great energy, like that of a catapult, and rocketed off into space, leaving nothing behind but tales of its glory and a cluster of stars to remember it by.

They say on weary nights when you’re at your lowest, just look up to the stars and you can see a father figure shaped like a rabbit giving you a thumbs up and an A+, as if to reassure you that you are doing your best. Discovered in ancient periods dating all the way back to the 1200s, knowledge of this constellation has been passed through many generations of stargazers and astrologists. “This constellation helped me get through my thesis,” said one college student. “He gave me the motivation to work today,” reviewed another tired worker. “Thanks, Dad.” was simply written in one of the comments. They say if you see this constellation at night, you are bound to be filled with determination to get through those piles of workload in the upcoming days.

Tantalus' Pet Cat
Ancient Greek mythos has Tantalus, a mortal man whose punishment was always having fruit and water just out of reach; his hunger and thirst never-ending as a result. However, the rules did not apply to his pet cat, for the Greek gods loved this cat, even though he was very dumb. He's constantly knocking over his bowl of water, which luckily magically refills and rights itself upwards so that he may drink some more. This revered cat now has a permanent place among the stars, where travellers, astronomers, and fellow pet cats can gaze up and admire this orange boi. A few people even claim to have seen him take a sip!

Malpapa is one of the constellations located in the northern hemisphere. Discovered in Y2 of the CBT calendar. The name Malpapa is giberish for alpaca. It is said when witnessed on a rainy day it represents bad luck as it is compared to alpacas spitting on you. That hardly happens due to there always being clouds obscuring the constellation during rain.

The Star Princess constellation, also known as the Star Guardian, is a constellation that was first mentioned in 2500 BC. At that time, people believed that this constellation was the reincarnation of the Star Princess, a protective human who was sent to space to protect Earth whenever the sun went down and the shadows took over the land. She became the object of many legends, and she even was one of the main characters in the franchise Mario Galaxy.

The Great Apple constellation is known as one of the five largest constellations in the Fresh Fruit Galaxy, recently discovered by the Nook Space Expedition. According to space explorers, there is an abundance of perfect apples floating idly around the bright star located at the apple's core. The origins of these perfectly ripe and edible apples remain a mystery.
