The Battle of the Nobles- A Kingmaker

5mBZjqP.jpg

The Kingdom of Oppidum was led by a kind and strong king. With great leadership, Oppidum prospered with wealth and peace. But on a dark and dreary night, the king was found dead. With no heirs, the future of the monarchy fell to the nobles of the land. While some nobles only wished to take on the crown to uphold the previous King's ideologies, others had more malicious intents...

Who will win in this struggle for power?

Game Setup
Outside of Thread Communication
You are not allowed to PM other users about the game.

Day/Night Cycle
Days will be 48 hours long, with nights at 24 hours. Day/Night cycles will end at 10PM EST, and results will be posted in a hour at 10-11PM EST (An hour at most to prepare). The thread will be locked when the phase is over. Day/Night cycles may be sped up later to follow the flow of the game.

Replacements

This game will use replacements until day 3. Any rule-breakers/inactives will be modkilled afterwards

Wisdom of the Crowd
WotC will be used in this game. Anyone participating in the game (Players/Observers/Replacements) will be able to vote on a change in the game. Changes range from changing phase lengths, cycle start/end times, and preventing a member from participating in the game. WotC votes will only be considered via PM. If enough votes are cast, the change will be made.

This is an semi-open setup. Rolenames are generic.

General Mafia Rules

Cheating includes (but is not limited to):
1. Posting after death. You may have one polite goodbye post, but it may not contain any potentially game-changing information.
2. Ruining the game by doing something like handing out your mafia's member list to the town.
3. Logging on to someone else's account to get their role or looking over someone's shoulder to get their role.
4. Comparing role PM timings to try and work out roles.
5. Posting or sharing any PM you receive from a host without permission.
6. Getting yourself modkilled to help your team. Your non-majority-decided death may not be used as a bargaining chip.
7. Signing up more than once using smurf accounts.
8. Offering favours/items/bells outside of the game for a ingame information.
9. Sharing accounts with other players.
10. Breadcrumbing the specific phrasing of your role PM. Do not compare the phrasing in your role PM to prove your alignment. You can claim the abilities you have, but you can't use the specific phrasing of your role PM.
11. Posting a false PM phrased as if you received it from the host. You can still fake roleclaim, but you cannot make it look like you are posting a PM you received from the host.

YOU MAY ONLY COPY AND PASTE TEXT FOR USE AS EVIDENCE. POSTING SCREENSHOTS OR ANY OTHER NON-TEXT EVIDENCE IS CONSIDERED CHEATING. THE ONLY EXCEPTION IS EVIDENCE THAT IS PUBLICLY AVAILABLE FOR ALL PLAYERS TO CHECK (eg. post counts in a thread). IT IS BEST IF YOU CHECK WITH ME FIRST.

Mod Font:
This is the mod color. It is reserved for the host. Please do not use it.

Question Font:
This is the question color. Use it to ask the host questions about the rules in public. You can also PM me.

Spam:
Strategic spam is acceptable, within reason.

Activity: You must contribute one substantial post at least once every full day/night cycle(being inactive for a night phase then day phase also counts). This means that if you only make one post, it needs to be more substantial than simply saying "I agree" or "RIP". If you post multiple times, this rule may may be less strict. There may be exceptions to this if day/night phases progress rapidly at any stage in the game. Please be on your best behavior during this game to avoid being banned.

Editing:
Editing is not allowed for any reason. Editing will result in a warning. After that, you will be modkilled.

Inappropriate posts:
Mafia games can get heated and emotional. Please keep it civil and remember that what happens in Mafia stays in Mafia.

Observers' Chat:
While dead players will be keen to give valuable "insight" into the game, please refrain from revealing game-changing information (eg. the identities of your fellow Mafia).

Play to win.
You should try your best to help your team win while you are alive and in the game.

Voting

This game uses King's Execution. For each day, a player will be selected by the kingmaker to be king. Only the king decides the lynch. The execution can be make by posting ##Execute: Player. At least 24 hours must pass before the king can pass their judgement. The king has up to 48 hours to decide, but should they end early, the remaining time will be added to the night phase. A "voting" thread will be created for this game, but votes will have no impact on the lynch. This thread will serve as a place for the other players to fake vote, and share their insight.

Be warned - Mafia requires a time commitment. This generally depends on the player, but at minimum, 30 minutes a day of solid effort is required. As part of the time commitment, Mafia requires a great deal of reading. Most people are actually quite poor at reading comprehension and playing Mafia is a great way to improve your reading ability, as well as your writing and ability to think and argue logically. In addition, Mafia is not for the faint-hearted or overly emotional. While not occurring every game, sometimes people can get into very heated arguments with one another. People can get very emotional playing Mafia, as it is a high-intensity endeavor. That being said, playing Mafia is an excellent way to develop thick skin, improve your patience, and make yourself a stronger person mentally.

Welcome to TBT Mafia. Mafia is a game of the informed minority versus the uninformed majority. To elaborate, the game is divided into two teams: the Town and the Mafia. Mafia know who each other are, and can coordinate their actions privately. Town on the other hand don't know anything other than their own role. To compensate, there are many more Townies than Mafia.

At the beginning of the game, you are PM'd your role. The game is divided into repeating phases of Day and Night. Day will generally last 48 hours and revolve around voting for a player to be lynched. Each player (including Mafia) get one vote, and players must figure out who the Mafia are, and convince others that they are correct. At the end of the day, the person with the most votes is lynched, and their alignment and role are revealed.

Night is typically 24 hours long and is reserved for Mafia night kills and players with special abilities. Usually, players discuss the results of the lynch at night, and make plans for the next day. When night ends, everyone will be informed of who died during the night. The new day will begin, and discussions for the lynch begin anew.

Mafia is a game of logic, intuition, persuasiveness, reading ability, emotion, and will. In short, its a thinking man's game. There are many different ways to approach the game and every game is a very different experience. In addition, Mafia is not for the faint-hearted or overly emotional. While not occurring every game, sometimes people can get into very heated arguments with one another. People can get very emotional playing Mafia, as it is a high-intensity endeavour. That being said, playing Mafia is an excellent to develop thick skin, improve your patience, and make yourself a stronger person mentally.

Thank you previous hosts for the rules.

Setup

12 Town:4 Mafia

KP is based on the number of alive team members (1/2 of team, rounded up)

Role List

The following roles may be used in the game. However, not all of them will be used.

Lord (Townie)-
Loyal to the Monarch, Lords wish to restore order to Oppidum following the murder of their king. They hold vast amounts of wealth and land, but have no experience on the battlefield. They have no talents. But because of their loyalty to the crown, they are eligible to become the next Royal Adviser.

Win Condition- Eliminate all conspirators to the Monarch.
Royal Adviser (Kingmaker)-
While the ruling Monarch is the supreme leader of the land, Oppidum has a parliament which assists the King in running the country. But due to the current King's death, the parliament has full control. Needing a king the head of the parliament, the royal adviser, appoints a Regent. Each Night, the Royal Adviser will select a main and two backup choices for King for the next day. Should the main choice die that Night, the backup will serve as King, and if the backup dies, the third choice will be king. No player can be chosen two days in a row until three players remain. The kingmaker cannot chose themselves as king.

Win Condition
- Eliminate all conspirators to the Monarch
Holy Knight (Hero)-
This noble has fought in countless battles, all to protect the people of Oppidum. Loyal to the crown and its people, the Holy Knight wishes only the best for the kingdom. The knight has become a celebrity in the country, and the people worship them greatly. As a Hero, the people will assure their safety. If the king attempts to execute them, the people will revolt and kill the king instead. However, once revealed as Hero, they cannot be kinged.

Win Condition- Eliminate all conspirators to the Monarch
Divine Priest (Doctor)-
This noble devoted their life to the Divine Being and strictly follows the god's teachings. As corruption is a sin in the eyes of the Divine Being, the Priest prays for an honest government. Using their divine powers, the priest may select a target each night to protect from death. If saved, the target will be notified of their protection. The priest may not protect the same target twice in a row.

Win Condition- Eliminate all conspirators to the Monarch
Loyal General (Roleblocker)-
The general has commanded the royal army for decades, they have experienced it all. Using their demanding voice and dominate nature, the general can select a target to block from using any actions. This will not, however, stop mafia kills or passive powers. The same target cannot be selected twice in a row.

Win Condition- Eliminate all conspirators to the Monarch
Special Inquisitor (Detective)-
The most intelligent and educated noble of the kingdom. They found the previous King's ideologies to be fair and logical, and wish to uphold those laws. With their expertise, the inquisitor can inspect a target each night to receive their alignment.

Win Condition- Eliminate all conspirators to the Monarch
Noble Mercenary (Vigilante)-
This noble found fighting to be an enjoyable sport, and left the country to work as a sell sword. Holding great respect for the king, the mercenary returned to steer Oppidum back on the right path. With an affinity for fighting, the mercenary can select a target to kill. However, they only have the ability to do this ONCE.

Win Condition- Eliminate all conspirators to the Monarch
Conspiring Earl (Goon)-
A selfish lord, the earl found the King's beliefs of social equality to be naaive and ridiculous. Hoping to gain more land for themselves, the earl conspired with other like-minded lords to murder the king. With the king dead, the conspirators must now seize full control of Oppidum.

Win Condition- Either eliminate all Lords so there are no more potential kingmakers. Or outnumber/equal town in numbers.
Corrupt Archduke (Godfather)-
Cousin to the previous King, the Archduke helped plot the King's murder so they may take the throne instead. Being closely related to the king, the people find the Archduke to be as pure as he was. Because of this, the Archduke appears as town if inspected.

Win Condition- Either eliminate all Lords so there are no more potential kingmakers. Or outnumber/equal town in numbers.
Evil General (Roleblocker)-
The general was furious with the idea of "World Peace" that the King believed in. War shows the strength of a country, and the general wishes for more military power. This bloodthirsty lord can block their selected target from performing any actions. They cannot select the same target two nights in a row.

Win Condition- Either eliminate all Lords so there are no more potential kingmakers, or outnumber/equal town in numbers.
Sinful Baron (Framer)-
The baron felt neglected by the king and found their fellow conspirators to be more supportive of the Baron's behaviors and actions. With a sly tongue, the Baron can spread rumors so the selected target will appear as mafia aligned if inspected. They cannot frame the same target twice in a row.

Win Condition- Either eliminate all Lords so there are no more potential kingmakers, or outnumber/equal town in numbers.
Ambitious Assassin (Strongarm)-
Hired by the other conspiraring nobles, the Assasin was bribed with the promise of land and power. Having perfected the art of murder, the assassin can perform one of the team's kills, and assure it goes through regardless of any protections. They may only do this ONCE.

Win Condition- Either eliminate all Lords so there are no more potential kingmakers. Or outnumber/equal town in numbers.

i would have joined this game if it wasn't a kingmaker, i've never played a kingmaker game before and the last time i did play was like a year ago, so i'm definitely not confident enough for a leap into something new when i can barely remember what the old felt like.

The last time I did a kingmaker.... i ended up third party and it didn't even matter that it was a kingmaker, so I'll try this again

It’s still a standard maf game in its core tbh. It just goes town to being more critical of the king as town and scoping out the townies as scum

/replacement
