Thank God it's Friday.
I'm taking some annual leave next week so I've a four day weekend. I need this break so badly!
We cancelled our Valentine's dinner reservation at 1PM today after I found the restaurant had a set menu that didn't fit our usual order. My partner has sensory processing issues and wouldn't have been able to eat the starter or main options, and our preferred dessert didn't make the menu either. So I gave her a call (she made the booking) and proposed we reschedule for another night once our regular menu is back. Why does that make me happy? (A) We found out before getting there, and this would have ruined the night for her (self-loathing autistic spiral) and (B) it gave me a chance to make a new plan.
As soon as the reservation was cancelled, I went on a hunt around the local shops to find her favourite wine. It's a specific rosé that most shops don't stock so we normally order it. I found it in the last shop I had time to check. She looked so happy when I pulled it out my backpack!
Chris: "I know we said no gifts..."
SO: "No, Chris, when we say no gi-"
Chris: "So think of this as a nice gesture."
SO: "...it is a nice gesture! But just a gesture! Thank you for the GESTURE."
I love this woman.
So I've just poured us both a glass of wine (cab sav for me, rosé is all hers), suggested we order Chinese from a restaurant we don't eat from often because it has steep delivery charges, and the plan once it arrives is to watch a few episodes of
Star Trek: Voyager. It is not the Valentine's Day we planned, but it's gonna be cosy and enjoyable, and we still have our restaurant dinner date to look forward to another night.
