Saw this trend floating around on twitter awhile back and thought it'd be fun to do something similar on here! If you had to choose 10 games for someone to play to get to know you, what would they be? The games don't have to be objectively great - just stuff that's reflective of your tastes and/or had some impact on you.

Mine are:
🍃 Animal Crossing: New Leaf
🐥 Harvest Moon: More Friends of Mineral Town
🐺 The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
🐲 Rune Factory 2
⚔️ Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War
⚖️ The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles
⌚ 9 Persons 9 Hours 9 Doors
❤ Undertale
🐱 Night in the Woods
💫 Kirby Air Ride

Farm sims and visual novels are my bread and butter. Used to be a bit embarrassed about the former but have come to embrace it, especially with stardew popularizing the genre :)

Choosing only ten is a difficult task, so for this list, I had to wrestle with whether or not I considered these games reflective of my core interests or if they were just games I liked a lot. I'm still not sure how well I succeeded. But it's not like I'm being graded on this. ...Right? 💦

  1. Super Mario World
  2. Final Fantasy VI
  3. NieR: Automata
  4. Sonic the Hedgehog (Mega Drive)
  5. Highway Blossoms
  6. Animal Crossing (GameCube)
  7. Minecraft
  8. Undertale
  9. Banjo-Kazooie
  10. Ace Attorney Trilogy
I suppose what you can gleam from this is that I primarily play games that are either retro or retro-inspired, particularly platformers of both the 2D and 3D persuasion, as well as JRPG's. Romantic visual novels and cozy games like Minecraft and Animal Crossing are also a pretty big time sink for me, and Ace Attorney is a special series in its own little category for me.

Because this is sort of an impossible question, I'm going to cheat by listing a few runners up that I feel are still very important to me but not games that I could necessarily fit or would have been redundant.
  • Super Mario 64
  • Final Fantasy VII (original)
  • Final Fantasy IX
  • The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
  • The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
  • Pokémon Yellow

Really hard to choose, but here's some of my favorite games, in no particular order.
  • Animal Crossing: New Horizons
  • The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
  • The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask
  • The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap
  • Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
  • Wii Sports
  • Wii Sports Resort
  • Wii Party
  • Tomodachi Life
  • Miitopia
There aren't any particular genres I turn to, more so just a bunch of games I enjoy from my favorite franchises (Zelda, AC, and the Wii / Mii series. I also like Mario, but none of those really made it to my top 10, sadly.)

Some honorable mentions that I couldn't fit into the list above - Love these games, but I don't play them too often.
  • Harvest Moon: Animal Parade
  • Animal Crossing: New Leaf
  • Mario Kart Wii
  • Super Mario World
  • The Binding of Isaac

Animal Crossing Wild World
Sonic Adventure 2
Pokemon Alpha Sapphire
Pokemon Pearl
Mario Kart Wii
Kirby and the Forgotten Land
Kirby Air Ride
Harvest Moon DS
Persona 5
Sonic Rush Adventure

I'm sure I'm forgetting a game/series but these are what came off the top of my head. What can I say, I love Sonic, Pokemon, and Kirby lol.

  • Kingdom Hearts
  • Ni No Kuni
  • Fire Emblem: Awakening
  • Animal Crossing: New Horizons
  • Stardew Valley
  • Fantasy Life
  • Tales of Xillia
  • Tales of Arise
  • Octopath Traveler
  • Horizon Zero Dawn
Honourable mentions would be...
- Pokemon Legends: Arceus
- Judgment
- Child of Light
- Gone Home

As much as I can't decide which 10 games fit within the list but I'll list the games that greatly influences every aspect of my preferences. The games are:
  • Super Paper Mario
  • Pokemon Black and White (both 1 and 2)
  • Splatoon (both 2 and 3. Splatoon 2 is my first Splatoon game)
  • Kirby's Return to Dreamland
  • Kirby and the Forgotten Land
  • Kirby: Planet Robobot
  • Animal Crossing New Leaf and New Horizons
  • Pokemon Platinum
  • Shin Megami Tensei IV
  • Mario Kart Wii
Honorable Mentions:
  • Cuphead
  • Fire Emblem: Three Houses
  • Fate/Grand Order

This was a little hard, but I think these fit me.

1. Splatoon 2
2. Splatoon 3

4. Kirby's Return to Dream Land
5. Undertale
6. Deltarune
7. A Hat in Time

The first Splatoon could be included but I left it out because I didn't actually play it. (despite owning it)
Other honorable mentions:
Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door
Pokemon Platinum

Edit: I should have put Yo-Kai Watch 2 in the honorable mentions
Super late edit: Don't know if anyone will see this but I forgot Super Smash Bros. Ultimate which is actually really important for this list.

Not in any particular order
  1. Skylanders: Spyro’s Adventure
  2. Skylanders: SWAP Force
  3. Psychonauts
  4. CTR: Nitro-Fueled
  5. Mario Kart Wii
  6. Guilty Gear Rev2
  7. Pokémon HeartGold
  8. Tetris DS
  9. Sonic Mania
  10. ACWW

I excluded a couple of favs BECAUSE I think this list is a better representation of my story as a gamer. Also Spyro was very important to me but I hate him now! Screw Spyro youre not allowed on the list lol. Spyro 1 PS1 or Eternal Night GBA if anything tho, those hold up excellently.

The first half are the most influential games on my life, but all of these have been really important to me.

💎 Pokemon Crystal Version (Pokemon Sun/Moon/Ultra Sun/Ultra Moon are an honorable mention.)
🍃 Animal Crossing: Population Growing
⚔️ World of Warcraft
📚 Final Fantasy XIV
🍁 MapleStory
🐄 Harvest Moon: A Wonderful Life
🐑 Stardew Valley
⭐ Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards
🦔 Sonic Adventure 2: Battle
🪓 Minecraft

A lot of the console games that are dearest to me are from my childhood because I got into MMO's as a teenager and didn't touch consoles for anything besides Pokemon and Animal Crossing.

This was kinda hard 😅 I don't play a huge variety of games; I tend to play the same few games over and over again lol. There's probably some I'm missing but I think I'd go with these:

- Animal Crossing: New Horizons
- The Coin Game
- Stardew Valley
- Minecraft
- Fallout 4
- Fallout 3
- Journey
- Pokémon Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald (Or maybe any early-mid Pokémon game, up to Pokémon X/Y)
- Rollercoaster Tycoon 2
- ARK: Survival Evolved (preferably on a private server)

Edit: Here is my husband's picks!! He said this was a tough cookie

1. To the Moon
2. Fallout 3
3. Pokémon Ruby
4. Old School Runescape
5. Crash Bandicoot
6. Final Fantasy 14
7. Elder Scrolls: Oblivion
8. Sid Meier's Civilisation 4
9. PlayStation All-Stars
10. Rollercoaster Tycoon 2

Only ten? Oh boy!

Katamari Damacy
Animal Crossing New Horizons
Minecraft
Final Fantasy VII
Beautiful Katamari
Animal Crossing New Leaf
Sims 2
Fallout 4
Halo
Stardew Valley

I love cozy games, but I think I'll always be a sucker for a good Alien shooting Halo or Fallout gaming night. I think a lot of the love for these might be nostalgia over quality 🤗

Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

Animal Crossing: Wild World

Rune Factory Frontier

Mortal Kombat: Armageddon

Nintendogs+Cats

Fallout: New Vegas

Stardew Valley

Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

Wii Sports Resort

Go Vacation, both Wii & Switch versions

I really love fantasy, magic, open world games set 'back in time', like Skyrim, BOTW & Rune Factory (RF isn't suuper open world but close enough), not open world techy, cyberpunk in the future stuff. Fallout is an exception cause it's not cyber punk tech savvy, glamy glitzy shiny, it's based off of the 1940s and a dystopian cataclysm.

Ofcouse I've played newer iterations of the AC games but WW was my beginning into the game. Brings back alot of nostalgia.

MK:A was maybe my first PlayStation game, it was my dad's. I played the PS2 before Wii or Nintendo DS.

Then we got the Wii and I was obsessed with Go Vacation, so much so that I bought it for Switch when it came out.

I also like farming games that aren't farming alone, like SDV & RF.

RF, Skyrim, BOTW have 'minimal, simple' combat. It's not a complicated system remembering all the combinations for moves (like MK, which I still played anyway).

  1. ACNL
  2. Fire Emblem: Awakening
  3. Rune Factory 4
  4. Story of Seasons: Trio of Towns
  5. Bastion
  6. Fantasy Life
  7. Fire Emblem: Sacred Stones
  8. Pokemon: Omega Ruby
  9. The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky
  10. Nino Kuni 2 -I hear that the first one is better, but this game had me hooked from start to finish. Also, it was the first game that I played after I moved from LA. It helped me cope.

10 was hard to come up with for me. But I really like monster taming games, and I have played some that weren't pokemon, but the older pokemon just did so well for me though. I also really like farming games and crafting games. (waiting for a game to come out that has all three 💘)
I also like 3d platformers with collecting and I like metrovanias. I feel like listing the genres I'm interested in are a better fit for me than listing specific games.

>Pokemon Crystal
>Pokemon Sapphire
> Pokemon Black
> Pokemon Heartgold
> Crash Bandicoot Warped
> Spyro the Dragon
> ACNH
> Stardew Valley
> Wario Land 4
> Tres Bashers

I put a lot of thought into this list. Trying to figure out just 10 games that give a good representation of myself was difficult.

Ultimately, the key for me is variety. All of these are games I have played and enjoyed, but they cover different genres, themes, tones, playstyles, and eras in gaming. They include arcade, console, handheld, and PC games. They include games that can be played solo and games that are meant to be played with or against other people. There are both combative and non-combative games on the list. I believe this vast array most accurately portrays my complexities as a person.

Not all of these are my favorite games (although many are), but they all represent some important aspect of my personality, my interests, or a turning point in my life.
