I caught tarantula for the first time in any game yesterday. The time and seasons have completely changed for them, and they also seemed easier to find and catch. Saw two others wandering around. Is it possible AC has gotten a serious difficulty nerf?

I don't have a screenshot to share at the moment, but I had the same problem. I looked it up out of desperation, and basically the ladder is locked out until much after building your house. You can't move the tent position at all anyways, but houses can be relocated later according to Nook.

I don't use badge arcade, but I'm drowning in My Nintendo points so I get every theme they put as a reward that I even vaguely care about. Trying to collect the AC seasons, they skipped Winter last year. :(

The SNES collection is really exciting for me, there are so many games on that system I haven't played. Right now I'm deep in Yoshi's Island, F-Zero, and Super Metroid.

Yeah, I thought the tree thing was weird, but is it really any wierder than catching a whale shark with a fishing rod and sticking it in your pocket? So the tree thing seems unnecessary but not completely out of place. Those musics were my favorite part of the whole video. And 5:16 is that bait!?
