nope I don't smoke. Smoking is something I've never understood the appeal of, and I'm grateful no one in my family does it either (although my mom did briefly, I'm told. She mentions still having a random craving from time to time, even now like 30 years later).
It annoys me when anybody does it but I don't usually say anything unless you're being deliberately obnoxious/irresponsible with your secondhand smoke, like if you light up around little kids or something like that better believe I'm gonna let you have it. Speaking of kids, there's always some dumb teenage boys asking me to buy them cigarettes and I'm just like oh my god what do I look like, a monster (┛◉Д◉)┛彡┻━┻

Funnily enough I think it does make some people look inexplicably attractive in movies/tv shows, but if you light one up near me irl the awful smell just makes you un-sexy instantly. lol (people who smoke a lot have the nastiest breath too just thinking about it is EUGH)

If anyone thinks it is cool, go into a casino in the middle of the day and watch some folks there mindlessly smoke and throw away money.

So I very rarely get personal about things here, but I've watched cigarettes negatively impact many family members and actually kill others, so I suppose I'll speak up here about my opinion on them since it's something I'm pretty against in general. :p

My mom smoked throughout the entirety of her pregnancy with me, and it may or may not have contributed to my childhood health issues that resulted in major surgery at the age of 9. She smoked in the house during my entire childhood so the house, our clothes, hair, and everything else constantly reeked and other kids definitely weren't shy about telling me that, which led to many fistfights and principal's office visits as I was already a relatively spunky/angry kid. o_O

Fast forward a few years and my maternal grandmother was diagnosed with stage III lung cancer. She ended up having radiation and surgical removal of the lung, and she went into remission after half a year or so. She never stopped smoking throughout the entire ordeal, because according to her "smoking is the only thing that keeps me calm". She smoked for years after the fact, and the cancer returned about 10 years ago and killed her within months, as surgery wasn't an option this time around and her oncologist deemed her too weak for chemo or radiation.

My mom is still around, still smoking, and has both high blood pressure and COPD from her long-term cigarette habit. She also has horrible gum disease and has lost about half her teeth at this point, with more needing to be pulled. She's had two teeth abscess, one so badly that she ended up staying overnight in the hospital on high dose antibiotics. This may or may not be related, but her beloved cat also ended up with cancer in his lung that very well could have been caused by her smoking in her house, according to a private conversation I had with the vet after the fact when I took care of the bill for her.

Suffice it to say, I don't like cigarettes and think it's sad when people don't think about the long-term repercussions of smoking them. I'm well aware that the above mentioned ailments won't affect everyone and plenty of people smoke their entire lives and are just fine, but it really doesn't only impact the smoker and at least a handful of their loved ones will be affected in one way or another by the smoker's decision to keep up the habit. I can certainly understand the motivation behind smoking certain other substances, but I just can't grasp the appeal of cigarettes at all. Even vapes (which I think are hilariously stupid) are better than cigarettes in terms of being less damaging to your heath and being less invasive to others.

I suppose that's /rant, but don't take this as me condemning anyone for their choices. These are just my personal experiences and if they help sway even one person away from trying cigarettes or make someone even consider quitting, then I'll be happy as can be. If not, I do hope the people who do smoke don't end up going through the same ordeals I've witnessed and choose to keep their smoking as their habit, and keep it away from nonsmoking family/friends/pets.
Woah! *claps*
That was amazing but really sad to hear. How long did it take you to type out?
My mother has been smoking for years and her health is terrible for her age. I've been ranting to her about it since I was seven years old (the day she started). Even when I was young and I'd cry because I thought that smoking= death within a month, she still didn't give one. For some reason, even now, she believes that it's the government tricking society.

She's also an alcoholic, so what can I say?

I don't know what she's thinking/feeling because she only seems to express emotions though anger but I feel sorry for her and I care about her life.

That was a bit-
Oblivia, you made me write something that was longer than a sentence!

I hate smoking. I'd never want to put a substance in my body that I know has terrible, negative long-term effects. Luckily no one I know in my family smokes at all.

I smoked them a couple times just to try it. I don't see the appeal in it, then again I did only try smoking them when I was super deprssed and suicidal so... there's the appeal lol, killing myself faster (not to be insensitive, haha). But smoking as a hobby, Idk, to each their own but I think there's a lot of better healthier things to do or put in your mouth. heck even vaping even if that is considered "lamer" lol Then again candies and stuff are unhealthy sooo who am i to speak lol

Aesthetically speaking, it can sometimes make people look cool or hot lmao, or even uglier, depending on their overall style or personality. obnoxious provocative ppl smoking=eww stay away from me lol, mysterious bad-a** or art hoe smoking, hot (i had a lil crush on the lead art editor magazine at my college and she smoked lol), but always remembering how unhealthy they are or smell makes it much more no...
I also have a father who smokes constantly, ever since I was little. If he doesn't have a cigarette in an hour or two, he gets really high-strung. Even while i'm in his car he smokes, I almost never visit him or go out with him anymore because I start feeling all gross and the smell sticks to me. I even started to set aside the same outfit for whenever I do hang out with him, so I don't have to waste extra pair of clean clothes until whenever i decide to do my next load of laundry.. Lol. Also he is a messy person normally, and the smoke makes everything that much worse, it sticks to everything and smells yucky & I would literally go crazy when I had to stay at his place very long. Plus he is an alcoholic. :( Oh and I dated a boy in high school for a few months who smoked cigarettes. Well let's just say he wasn't the best guy... nowadays rumors are hes been arrested, not sure if he finished high school but i know he got held back, & he would lie to me about drinking & doing drugs. We would hang out on the smoking corner together after or before school some times and it would always get in my face.... Lol. So I'm just biased against them bc of negative things associated with them.

I have never smoked one but have considered it several times. I always hesitate as both my parents are heavy smokers and cannot break their habit. I'm too afraid to begin smoking and not be able to quit. Plus, theres no real benefit to smoking anyway so I've just always said no despite wanting to try it. I'm too scared of getting hooked and the negative side effects.

WELL

I personally don't like them. Most of my family on my dads side smokes, and I am at my grandparents house frequently with them.

Because I was around them so often I got asthma >.<

My uncle smokes cigarette after cigarette (like he'll finish then go for another)

It's super unhealthy for both you and the people you love

I never wanted to smoke, the smell of cigarettes either being smoked or on a person's body just bothers me.

I'd much rather set my money on fire than smoke anything. At least it'll keep me warm.

I like the aesthetic, but at the same time my dad was literally one smoke away from dying [SUB]thank goodness he ok tho he's just really old (80)[/SUB]

like nah for me, meh for anyone else. my boyfriend smokes and as long as he doesn't do it where i can smell it idc

I've smoked for years but recently I switched to an ecig instead of an actual cigarette. I'll smoke a cigarette a few times a week and that's a vast improvement from a pack every two days. I only smoke cigarettes in my apartment or car to spare everyone else from my secondhand smoke but I'm less concerned about that if I'm around people who smoke too. ecigs aren't much better but I started making my own ejuice and I actually like picking out and mixing the flavors.

I'm not a fan of cigarettes because smoking killed my grandparents when they were only in their 50's

Nope. And I mean, if someone wants to smoke go for it. My only complaint is when it negatively impacts someone around them. My mother and I, for example, have second-hand smoke and really weak lungs due to my grandmother's intense smoking habit.
I don't mind her smoking if that's what she wants, but I do mind her doing it near us to the point of making us suffer from a health condition.

i'm personally used to the smell of cigarette smoke and being around cigarettes. i come from taiwan, where people regularly smoke, and i've even seen my family members smoke on the balcony of my apartment. so now whenever i smell cigarettes, it reminds me of home. however, once i learnt that cigs are super bad for you, i started to see the downsides and started to worry about my family, and i promised myself i'll never do it.

heavy amounts of smoke give me headaches now, but small amounts of it i can stand. additionally, the fam has lightened up on smoking, ever since my uncle became a dad, and the apartment started housing more children. so to answer your question, i don't have anything against cigarette smokers, i mean it's your life, you do what you want, but i will never ever try to smoke.

Nooooooooooope. My mum smokes and it's so disgusting.

i personally think there are better things one could do with their time . . . but if it floats your boat, can't stop you lol

If I said I was against smoking I'd be a hypocrite - I hate owning up to smoking especially as I only do it because of my mental illnesses when I know its just as negative, but it is what it is. My only other coping mechanism is equally as self destructive and just opens me up to nasty comments (especially in this season - summer - where its too hot to hide in jumpers) so yaknow, its the better of the two for me.
Don't get me wrong, I hate it and I really hate myself even more then I used to for doing it but... I've got nothing else I guess? hmph.
