Not sure if this is old news but Nintendo sent me this invitation today to participate

Dear ,

You are invited to participate in a voluntary research project investigating how people play video games and how they feel over time. The project is led and run by the Oxford Internet Institute with assistance from Nintendo of America.

You may only participate in this project if you are at least 18 years of age.

If you choose to participate, you will be asked by the Oxford Internet Institute to complete three short surveys (5-10 minutes each) over a period of several weeks. The surveys will ask you how much you have been playing Animal Crossing: New Horizons, along with questions about how you have been feeling recently.

Once you’ve agreed to participate and have completed these surveys, Nintendo of America will share Animal Crossing: New Horizons gameplay information with the Oxford Internet Institute. This gameplay data cannot be linked to your identity in any way.

Please click the button below if you would like to participate in this research project.

Thanks!

It was all questions about how the game made me feel and my general emotions in the past weeks.

Interesting, did you already give your Nintendo data in the initial survey? Or are they waiting for the third survey to go out before getting your specific Nintendo details? I also wonder how specifically Nintendo even tracks gameplay, and if the researchers are taking time travelling into account.

Maybe they should have included questions about when they'll put in QoL updates. 😋

On topic though, I just got the same letter. I'm actually kind of surprised that Nintendo agreed to this, from my understanding they rarely, if ever, agree to letting outside entities do anything with their data. I wonder if the results will ever be made public?

You give your consent at the start of the survey. According to the consent page, your play data is completely anonymized, and won't be linked back to you at all. The researchers will not have any access to your account, your profile, your name, or anything. But nintendo will be sharing your anonymized play data with the researchers.

That's pretty cool! I wouldn't mind seeing multiple different studies between video games and mental health. I honestly believe it helps. And healthy mental health helps physical aliments too such as blood pressure.
And I would totally love to see an expansion on animal crossing like gameplay in the game world.
Are you gonna participate? :)

The survey was ACNH related so I’m putting it here.

if you received the email, did you took the survey? Were you truthful? Or did you ignored it? I’m curious.

I personally took it, and it was very interesting.

I haven't received a survey invite. I'd be very interested to know what kind ofqquestions were asked 👀

I vaguely remember a survey around the time the game first came out, but I think that one was more to guage who the audience were.

Well, I guess this answers my question about the content of the survey lol. Interesting study though! I could guess that AC helps with some people emotionally. But yeah, I haven't gotten an email yet!

i haven’t received anything from nintendo, but i’m also curious about the types of questions that were asked. :’o

My memory….it asked questions such as:

In the past two weeks, how many hours did you play ACNH?

In the past two weeks, (and you get the idea)

perhaps they’re trying to see who’s still playing the game for updates or anything? idk nintendo hasn’t announced much for ac lately, it’s obviously not one of it’s major priorities

It also asked about your emotions about the game.

Here’s a video from SwitchForce on it.

I got the e-mail and participated on the survey. I actually thought it's the typical survey we get asking our game feedback, but it wasn't. But when asked about the amount of things to do in the game (or something like that), I just had to be honest.

Thanks for sharing! Seems like quite a robust set of questions. I wonder if Nintendo will be looking at any of it, or if they're just a sort of middleman for Oxford.

I can't help but wonder if Oxford's data is going to be skewed by people only thinking about the game and updates, rather than the overall emotional affect the game may have had on them personally. I know a lot of people said it helped them through the early parts of the pandemic, but if all the questions just want a 2-week timeframe, what exactly are they looking for? I wonder if/when the results will be published.

I like taking surveys, but I didn't receive one. How was it sent to you? Did you sign up for a special newsletter from Nintendo or something? I get emails from Nintendo from time to time, but I didn't get this survey.

I received it!
It looks like that survey they did a while back. The one from a while back was from the University of Missouri. I remember that one since I was compensated for it. It was nice.

The questions are similar.

Out of curiosity I checked, but I didn't receive one either.
It also asked about your emotions about the game.

lol SwitchForce is such clickbait. I'm sure he used this survey as reason #50 bajillion why the updates are coming soon.
