Big Nintendo Announcements at GDC 08

no matter what happens, we're being gyped.

Nintendo said that the Wi-Fi connection would be totally free when they announced the WiiConnect24 thing.
Not a lie. The free service is called Wi-Fi Connection, the paid service is called Pay & Play
LIES.

Nintendo told us all about the MKWii online features and because of their first false announcement, we presumed it would all be free.
We don't yet know if MKWii will be free or not.
LIES.

Nintendo always acted like the company that actually cares if the customers are satisfied and isn't just after our money.
No company cares about their customers more than their money. You'd have to a very naiive fool to believe that.
TOTAL LIE. (but it's the same for every freaking company)
Read bolded.

Great, now I'll have to pay to use nintendo's crappy online.

If they get rid of freind codes and have actual voice chat, I might pay.
How do you know it's going to be crappy if we know nothing of the content we will be getting yet! Who knows, friend codes could be gone and we could get voice chat with this, but I wouldn't call it crap until we know more.
do you really think nintendo will remove Friend Codes? Really? Theres no way we're going to get voice chat either, and if we do it will be like MPH, before/after the match with friends only.
You're right, I have no idea, but we can't just say they never will. Who knows what will happen with friend codes or even the pay and play. We'll have to wait and see what Nintendo does.
Or doesn't do in some cases.
True, but I personally don't think these negative assumptions such as "it will be crap" should be made without even hearing much at all on the service...
well I don't think these positive assumptions should be made either. This isn't fairy-tale land, this is friggin nintendo.

Well, to be fair, so do all companies. Nintendo isn't a Disney and is doing good for the gaming community so I thank them for that.

Do you think there is a good chance of that?
The fact that Nintendo's charging money now means that YES, things are changing. Hence, there's always a chance.

I don't see why you feel the need to count out Nintendo. As I mentioned, they pioneered online in the future... it's not like they're behind the competition in any real way. They just choose not to do the things the others do.

Perhaps that's changing.
Did you know gullible isn't in the dictionary?

The reason they want us to pay is in order to get more money. Nintendo is a company, not a God.
Where did I call them a God? I just said, they need to justify the new paid service somehow. After all, then, why keep the free service?

Obviously because the paid one will have features the free one will not. Use common sense.
I never claimed you said they were a God nor did I imply that.

You are also basically saying that they will justify the paid service by getting closer to Live but not beating it.
Are you purposely trying to look like an idiot?

I NEVER SAID THEY WILL NOT BEAT LIVE. Dude, I don't see how you want a serious discussion board. You're not able to discuss this properly, let alone politics.

I said that BETTER FEATURES MEAN COMING CLOSER TO LIVE. Or, perhaps, BEATING it. But since we know NEXT TO NOTHING about the paid service and can only make LOGICAL ASSUMPTIONS, I am not saying early on that it will, hands-down, definitely beat Live.
Calm down now, it's only the internet.

You did not say they beat it, check your past posts if you need clarification. Closer is nice, but it is not better.
...

How about I chew my argument for you.

I am making the logical assumption that the new paid online features will bring Nintendo closer to XBox Live. Since we don't know any specifics, I will not go as far as to say that they will FOR SURE beat Live, but the possibility is there. I'm not saying they WON'T beat it, either. I'm not saying anything regarding Nintendo beating Live or not. I'm just saying that new online features will bring it CLOSER to Live, which MAY OR MAY NOT result in Nintendo's new service beating it out.

That is all.
So really you are just posting for the sake of posting? You basically said you aren't saying anything will happen. Or maybe nothing will happen. Or maybe it's already happening!
So I'm the one posting for the sake of posting?

No, I'm saying that it's wrong to assume right off the bat that Nintendo's service will be worse than XBox Live, and instead, I leave every possibility open. The reason I'm usually not disappointed with a lot of games is that I start playing them with an open mind, not expecting anything.

Pfft, gamers. They're never satisfied.

1. We still have the free service. So they did not lie as we STILL have the free service. No changes, just a new added Pay and Play service.

2. Who said it isn't free? There's been no confirmation that I know of. Link me if there is...

3. If you were a large company, no matter which one, you will be looking for money all the time. And if this is a way that will make a large amount of Wii users happy and will make them money, it's a win win for Nintendo.

Wow. You must live a very boring life if you look at no positives. Geez, give it a try sometime, looking at the good side of things can really help you become a happy person, rather than the negatives of everything.

That's comparing apples to oranges. McCain actually has all the probability against him, whereas we have NO data to go on with this.

Nintendo's never before launched a paid service (I think), so we can't compare it to Wi-Fi Connection in any way, shape, or form. You'll be surprised at how much difference paying for a service can make.

Yeah, I'm happy Nintendo's making their online service better. Sure, it'd be better if it was free, but if this is the price we need to pay (literal price), then sure. If I had XBox Live, I'd definitely pay for it and have no problems whatsoever.

Come on, everyone. Why are we arguing right now? To prove a point? What point?

There are no points to prove yet because the Pay and Play thing hasn't been released yet! We all have our opinions, and for right now, thats ALL they are.

Just opinions.

Even if some games still have free online play, it's most likely not the ones I want to play.

Nobody's making positive assumptions. I'm making LOGICAL assumptions that leave every possibility, positive or negative, open.
From your posts, I get the feeling that you are happy that Nintendo is doing this.
Yeah, I'm happy Nintendo's making their online service better. Sure, it'd be better if it was free, but if this is the price we need to pay (literal price), then sure. If I had XBox Live, I'd definitely pay for it and have no problems whatsoever.

Why should I have problems paying for Nintendo's service if it's improved?
You just made a positive assumption.
Are you really just picking through Bul's posts and arguing over them now?

Come on, everyone. Why are we arguing right now? To prove a point? What point?

There are no points to prove yet because the Pay and Play thing hasn't been released yet! We all have our opinions, and for right now, thats ALL they are.

Just opinions.
I've basically been called an idiot for saying my opinion who is not using one kind of common sense.
