Well, today Nintendo announced two new big services at their Wiiware session, Downloadable content and "Nintendo Wi-fi Connection- Pay and Play."

You can check out the info here:

READ THE ARTICLES CAREFULLY!!!

With this announcement, will Sakurai announce additional characters for Brawl? Personally, I don't think so (but I hope so)

:P .

Perfect.

I hope this "Pay and Play" Online is far better than the old system.
It'll be the same but cost money, I'd say. [/quote]
I hope they don't do it on MKWii.

pay and play?

wow...

Nintendo always talked about how online gaming should be free, then all of a sudden we have to pay!? What's up with this?

But I love the downloadable content bit

^_^

It won't be the same but cost money. They said they were adding new features, and the payment would help support said features...

I have a feeling Mario Kart Wii will be one of the first games like that, for the online tournaments and stuff.

I'm not doin' this...

I barely touch the Wii anymore. And I highly doubt that'll change much even when Brawl is out...I'm not going to pay for Xbox Live, and this...

Why is that? Sure, the overall selection of games has been a little lacking in the past, but things are finally picking up steam with WiiWare and all the upcoming games.

Nintendo's pay to play thing is asking you to pay for something people hated when free.

That would be sooo pointless o_0

If we have to pay, they will definitely have added features. That would be the main reason for having to pay.

But yeah, I will definitely pay if they have some good new content.

It is NOT, can you read?

"collecting fees for some services [that] will allow us to adapt flexibly."

They are venturing into new territories. Perhaps XBox Live-like stuff.

How the hell could the Wii have voice chat?

Wait a second, WHAT?

Umm... with a headset? Jeez, man. Just because Nintendo hasn't done it yet doesn't mean they can't. I'm willing to bet the Wi-Fi Connection is still going to be used 99% of the time, with Pay And Play used for some games like Animal Crossing. If said AC game will be an MMO, it'll likely have a ton of advanced features, not to mention it'll take some money for server up-keep and the like.

I doubt it. The bottom line is that Xbox live surpasses any online thing Nintendo tries to do. You get more out of Xbox live than just some add on content. Nintendo's advantage over Microsoft online wise was that it was free. They just lost that.

I'm not buying ACWii if I have to pay for the online :| It's basically the only thing I do in Animal Crossing, and I'm definitely not buying it if it's a MMO and I have to pay for it...

It's basically asking you to buy the game twice.

I will assure you that they're not charging money for the same freaking service.

How can I do that? Logical reasoning. They said they're still keeping Wi-Fi Connection for the majority of the games. This leads me to believe that Pay And Play will support NEW FEATURES. Obviously they're not going to be WORSE features, so taking that logic forward, the features will be BETTER.

Better online features = closer to XBox Live.

My logic is better than your logic here, I'm afraid. You're simply saying they "won't beat Live" without backing up your claim.

BTW, Pay & Play has nothing to do with paying for downloadable content. In fact, those will be two different fees. Pay & Play will likely encompass a subscription based service and will probably only be restricted to MMOs and the like.

Paying for downloadable content is just going to be a bunch of microtransactions... say, a dollar for a new Mario Kart Wii course.
