Wait a second, WHAT?

Umm... with a headset? Jeez, man. Just because Nintendo hasn't done it yet doesn't mean they can't. I'm willing to bet the Wi-Fi Connection is still going to be used 99% of the time, with Pay And Play used for some games like Animal Crossing. If said AC game will be an MMO, it'll likely have a ton of advanced features, not to mention it'll take some money for server up-keep and the like.
I doubt it. The bottom line is that Xbox live surpasses any online thing Nintendo tries to do. You get more out of Xbox live than just some add on content. Nintendo's advantage over Microsoft online wise was that it was free. They just lost that.
I will assure you that they're not charging money for the same freaking service.

How can I do that? Logical reasoning. They said they're still keeping Wi-Fi Connection for the majority of the games. This leads me to believe that Pay And Play will support NEW FEATURES. Obviously they're not going to be WORSE features, so taking that logic forward, the features will be BETTER.

Better online features = closer to XBox Live.

My logic is better than your logic here, I'm afraid. You're simply saying they "won't beat Live" without backing up your claim.
What makes you think it will be closer to Live, it might upgrade to something completely different from Live. Unless you mean on the amount of whupass...

I like my free WiFi. Call me crazy, but I hate paying for a game I've already paid for.

You just said they won't beat live.

Xbox live is cheap enough and a fantastic service with amazing games.

How the crap can I tell you it will beat Live when we know nothing about Pay & Play?

I'm not going to blatantly say it will. It might. It might not. But the possibility is there. A paid service is obviously going to be better than a free one.

There's no other reason to charge for these features. It's either server up-keep (which means more complicated online infrastructure, which signals better online modes) or just extra modes and things like voice chat, lobbies, etc.

Oh, boohoo. There's going to be an optional subscription-based service that might usher Nintendo into XBox Live territory. Yeah, nice way to TOTALLY drop the ball Nintendo.

You're not backing up your points.

OK, we know it's going to be a paid service.

...

What else do we know?

I thought we didn't know a thing about it...

about the voice chat, NO. No Wii game is ever going to have voice chat because they're safety freaks

A quote from Sakurai about voice chat in Brawl:
But there are all sorts of rules and regulations regarding communication on the Wii platform and so it was apparent to me that it just wouldn't come together, we weren't going to be able to do it, so we decided to cancel that feature. I'm very sorry about that. But if you're really desperate for it, you could set up Skype by your game station and go at it with a friend if you like.

I'm really losing hope in Nintendo, what, with all this stupid "pay to play" crap... One of the reasons I loved the Wii was because it was cheap and the internet and online games were free. I can throw that out the window now.

Yes, but I already reasoned quite logically that the only reason why they'd suddenly ask people to fork over cash is because they're going to be delving deeper into online territory.

http://blog.wired.com/games/2008/02/nintendo-to-beg.html

""Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection Pay And Play" will let users subscribe on a game-by-game basis to certain titles. Nintendo project leader Takashi Aoyama announced the service at GDC, but did not say what upcoming games would require payment for the service, or how much they would cost."

FREE GAMES ARE NOT GOING AWAY.

My God, you people need to learn to read. Pay & Play will be for a few titles, and it's game-to-game basis.

And, Gremp, pray tell me... why do freaking DS games have voice chat? The DS is made by the same "safety freaks" that make Wii.

Optional? It's asking you to pay to use part of a game you already paid for. In my mind, as well as others, online features are part of the game.

Do you honestly believe their biggest online hits will be free?

Then why the hell do you defend XBox Live? I'll agree with you, you shouldn't have to pay for something you already paid for. It's not like I support paid online services...

I'm just saying, you guys are way too "zomsdgasf11!!1!" about this. Stop freaking out. A few titles will ask you to pay... a FEW. There will STILL be free games out there.

And I DISTINCTLY remember people saying something to the effect of "I wish Nintendo would charge money for online if that meant we'd get something XBox Live caliber".

Brawl is going to be free. We don't know about Mario Kart Wii, but I'm just saying, I think games like MMOs are going to be the few games with subscription based services.

Like AC Wii.

I'm not doin' this...

I barely touch the Wii anymore. And I highly doubt that'll change much even when Brawl is out...I'm not going to pay for Xbox Live, and this...
Why is that? Sure, the overall selection of games has been a little lacking in the past, but things are finally picking up steam with WiiWare and all the upcoming games.
I dunno'...It's hard to explain. Nothing's really phazed me about the Wii's upcoming things...I mean sure there's Brawl, but I mean other than that.

For now, I'm sticking with my 360 and DS. And, from the look of things, I think it'll be that way for a while.

If Nintendo can climb it's Online-way into Xbox Live territory, that would be marvellous. However, being a person that's experienced both Xbox Live, and Wii's online...I, personally, don't really see it happening anytime soon. Who knows, though?

I didn't know a few people voiced my opinion.

I never said I liked that Xbox Live cost money. However, it is cheap for what it offers. Microsoft is doing an outstanding job.

yeah but all the good games are gonna have the pay-to-play... Oh, sure, I can play all the crappy 3rd party games for free, but MKWii will probably be the first to get hit by this hypocritical crap.

And I don't really want to pay $5-10 a month for each game I play online... Doesn't really sound that great to me.

and about the DS thing... Who knows? but that came straight from Sakurai, Nintendo isn't gonna let voice chat happen.
