I don't see why you feel the need to count out Nintendo. As I mentioned, they pioneered online in the future... it's not like they're behind the competition in any real way. They just choose not to do the things the others do.
Perhaps that's changing.
The reason they want us to pay is in order to get more money. Nintendo is a company, not a God.
Obviously because the paid one will have features the free one will not. Use common sense.
