Announcement: Nintendo Switch 2 Edition & Free Update

The timing of the new update is wild because I was planning on treating myself to the Switch 2 around the festive period, and in turn giving my Switch 1 to my mother so we can play Animal Crossing together. Also the update being five days after my birthday? It's peak. I'm very hyped for this!!

Going by the menu above, it looks like there are also special rooms, although maybe those are just for NPCs like Label.

I am so excited, friends. There is so much to be hyped about! This was not an update I was expecting to happen!

For the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition, I'm most interested in the Joy-Con2 mouse controls, and also... yelling at my villagers with a megaphone?

For the free update, everything looks really good! The hotel is adorable. It did give me brief hope for mini-games, but I'm still looking forward to decorating the hotel rooms! There's lots of neat little features, like the special items in the souvenir shop, and visitors being able to wear the outfits on the hotel mannequins. I'm not sure how much I'd use a slumber island if it wasn't for the multiplayer aspect, which I'm excited for! It looks really collaborative. The game consoles are a nice touch, and I'm excited for all the collaborating villagers and items. Tulin and Mineru are very cute, and all the LoZ and Splatoon items are wow!

I was not expecting this at all. I am genuinely so excited for the new update! I can't wait to collect the new hotel and collab furniture! Also, bulk crafting is coming, you can see it at around minute 6 of the trailer.

The hotel is such great news. I didn't expect any further update, I could have never imagined a completely new building coming to the game...to think that the area of the beach close to the pier is the last part of my island I renovated!

Also, I am happy that only minor features are linked to the NS2 system (improved graphics and the megaphone), I would have not liked being locked out of new features just because I don't own a Switch 2.

I am stoked for the addition of bulk crafting!!!! I am also pleased to see Kapp'n's family found their home in New Horizons!!! Although, the hotel room features are quite similar to the Happy Home Paradise DLC, so I wish we could use Poki in the hotel shop. But I love it nonetheless!! And bringing back the megaphone!? Wonderful!!! My favorite addition is DEFINITELY bulk crafting and the megaphone!!! I am pleased to see some of the older features be reintroduced with some improvements!

Ok ! I've formatted my thoughts after watching the video !

- The resort is beautifully designed and I'm thrilled about the concept of a seaside room! I'm also thrilled to see some new items getting added to the game - it'll give me something to work towards again! Being able to customise the outfits of the visitors seems good for the hyper-thematic island havers out there. Also bulk crafting !!!! I hope this is a universal change and not just for the resort crafting.

- The increase of home storage is going to do crazy things for any NH shop I want to run. Boring's classical 'my storage is full so here's a shop' is about to get a whole new meaning. Storing flowers will also let me FINALLY clean up my beach oh my GOD.

- Resetti!! In the flesh!! Part of my hesitation to create new areas of my island is having to take down the old designs, so this is nice to see.

- The new dream world is so pretty! I suppose they made slumber island for all the people who wished to have a second island and I think this is a beautiful way to incorporate it. And it makes collaborating much easier - I think me and my boyfriend will probably share a slumber island.

- Classic games on ingame systems !! How awesome !! And the lego items will drive my boyfriend mad, I can tell. Same for the Zelda stuff, he loves it more than anything else.

- Mineru is beautiful and she will be mine.

I'll be honest though, I'm really excited but also a little sad and cautious - does this mean we'll not get a full AC for NS2? It's already been almost six years since ACNH came out, and an update (however wonderful) is not a new game.

ahhh!! I can’t believe this is happening! I haven’t played in so long, and never really got my last island anywhere meaningful, so it seems like the perfect time to delete and start fresh :,) I just realized though I have no bells on here though to trade for IGB and NMTs hahah!!

I am wondering if the guests have a timeslot of how long, how many days they will be at the hotel? Will they get to explore our island? Imagine going to a hotel and never exploring the outside?

Zelda items are coming backkk!!!! Fairy bottle my beloved!! The new Zelda and Splatoon characters are so interesting, will we get physcial cards to bring them in?

What does this mean with slumber islands!!!? Will stuff grow on sleep islands? I have so many islands ideas, so im just wondering. Can people dream these new places?

MORE STORAGE, and omg we finally get to put trees and flowers into the storage.

My splatoon hair is coming back omg ;_;
Also loving the zelda villagers

It’s confirmed in the video that tourist villagers staying at the hotel can and will be visiting our island! it remains to be seen if we can ask them to stay!

Unexpected for sure? I was convinced nintendo was done regarding updating NH

My reaction was 'meh' towards the switch 2 pack thats paid for, its a tiny upgrade of tools etc and resolutions for payment, will give that a miss

The free 3.0 update i felt it was just a Switch version of Happy Home Paradise added to the island, it feels exacly the same just with kapp'n's family added in the hotel.

I feel I will defiantly give it the benefit of the doubt and download it but if it brings me back to playing NH daily again I am skeptic as I feel we've already done this update before for the 3ds New Leaf version.

The flower storage!! I'll need all that extra storage space. LOL I restarted my island awhile back and have been doing all the hybrids myself. Needless to say, my island is COVERED in flowers. I cannot wait to clean it up. And using Resetti to do it!

So happy we can upgrade our storage. Also happy we can finally put the flowers and bushes into storage. Something I have wanted for a while.

That’s great they are bringing back the old game consoles and you can play a game on them.

I do wonder how much the switch 2 expansion will cost. Since most of the update is free. I don’t see myself having that many people over. I do really like that you can now terraform the slumber islands with friends. It looks like you can only bring villagers you already have on your island to the slumber island. Would have loved to be able to bring different villagers to them.

I hope we can get a special pack of amiibo cards for the new villagers since I don’t have any of the Zelda or splatoon amiibos.

Love that Resetti is back and it will be so much easier to remove decorations to redecorate.

I love that Kappn' family is back. Probably not but would love if they eventually bring back the others NPC’s that got left out.

Switch 2 Edition Content

• Enhanced resolution.
• Joy-Con 2 Mouse Controls (work furniture, bulletin board, custom designs)
• Megaphone (works the same as ACNL)
• Up to 12 people on your island.
• Webcam.

Version 3.0 Content

• Kapp'n's Hotel - Theme-based and you can use prior-obtained furniture. You earn Tickets, exchanged in the souvenir shop. Notably, there is a cat plushie, which I imagine is the same as the dog plushie. Invite using amiibo.
• Craft x.
• Craft items for Tom Nook to exchange for more tickets
• Storage increases from 5,000 to 7,000 then 9,000.
• Store trees, shrubs, flowers.
• Select an area and Resetti cleans it up.
• Slumber Island: decorated with prior-obtained items, plant trees in any stage, change day and weather and have islanders in the dream. You get 3 slumber islands (of 3 differing sizes). This is also multiplayer.
• You can buy Nintendo game systems and play classic Nintendo games.
• LEGO items
• New Zelda items, and Tulin and Mineru get to live on your island.
• Cece and Viche from Splatoon come to AC too, with their own Splatoon items.

I expected the Switch 2 Edition at some point. I did NOT expect a 3.0 at all. I really thought the next thing we'd get was a new game. Since 2026 is the 25th anniversary of AC and this is released in January, this gives me more hope that they're making a big deal out of it.
