I don't like Candy Crush Saga, there is no point and it's not really even that fun. AC actually has a point to the game and you get to choose what you do in it. When the radio said I should get, I just said, "NO."
At my clinic I recently got a couple volunteers coming in to help out. Anytime I meet anyone new in real life I ask them with a stupid grin "DO YOU PLAY ANIMAL CROSSING!?" when they ask "what's that?" and I explain it to them, they usually giggle but I really don't mind. It's so worth it rambling about it if you actually DO find someone else who plays.
I was joking around with some friends and I said 'I bet you a 100 bells that...' and then I just froze and everyone looked at me and was like 'What is she on about?' so I just laughed and said 'I mean /pounds/'
That's actually exactly my sitauation too! How funny!
I was a fireworks get-together over the weekend and talking to my friend who has a character in my town (only plays about 1/week). I was like "Oh a flamingo moved in town! Oh Your house got upgraded from a tent! Now we have lychees and persimmons. We got a campsite, and the store was upgraded!" Someone asked us what drugs we were on, haha!
I quit being embarrassed about what I enjoy years ago as did my boyfriend. We both happily play AC and talk about it where-ever
All of the people I know don't care and many of them are mildly interested at the very least. Got a few of them into the game, even! I've also managed to meet a few local ACers at Best Buy/ Mall just because I was talking about it to friend while browsing and were like "I play too! "
My husband and I are both in our forties and we play Animal Crossing, and my best friend and her husband also play Animal Crossing. I'm really grateful that my own social circles include a lot of gamers, so this feeling of public anxiety about being one doesn't exist for me. The only time I've been given any nonsense about gaming being "for kids" has been from my in-laws, but their regular consumption of reality tv, Dan Brown novels and other forms of mindless entertainment doesn't help me to take them seriously, snotty as I know that makes me sound.
I'm 59 years old and I always talk about animal crossing! I always slip up and start talking about whats happening in the game. My family gets a little confused sometimes then starts laughing and say "oh, you're talking about AC! Can't get any of them to play with me since they can't mame or kill anyone!
Actually I often talk about Animal Crossing both to my friends and when talking to customers about games at work. I have never been embarrassed about my love of any video games and even when others try to put me down or ridicule me about it I just point out its something I enjoy like they have their enjoyments (sports, drinking, partying, watching reality TV, soap operas, etc) I have also gotten a lot of 'parents' interested in Animal Crossing who were not really interested in video games before, largely because of the possible interactivity with their kids in the game and the non-competitive aspect of the game, since there is no winning or losing for the game itself.
My friends accept me for who I am. They don't tease me about obsessing over Animal Crossing and I don't tease them about obsessing over sports, clothes or their favorite movie stars.
I have this co-worker i talk to about animal crossing with because he also has it.
My manager asked what it was and I told him it was a game about fishing, paying bills, catching bugs. And he said.. "why don't you just do all that stuff in real life?"
I like talking about the game to a couple of my friends in real life since they played Wild World. Neither of them own a 3DS though, so they can't play New Leaf. The only person I know in real life that plays New Leaf is my sister since we both have 3DSs. It's so much fun to have discussions about the game at the dinner table while my mother shakes her head sadly and reminds us that we are young women who need to find jobs.
I'm still in High School, so I've told my friends that I really want Animal Crossing: New Leaf. Most of the time, they've said "What's that?" and never said it's for kids. However, my friend is all like "Is that the game where you can dress up as Link? Oh my gosh, I hate that game!" (She hates all video games except for Legend of Zelda ones, pretty much. Especially Pokemon.)
I play a lot of nintendo fantasy like games, like zelda and pokemon and animal crossing, so I can never talk about video games with my friends because I feel pathetic and geeky because they all play COD and all the other war shooting games.
About a year ago I was playing City Folk when my son's army recruiter came to pick him up for something. When he asked what I was playing, I told him a game that focuses on building, and catching fish and bugs instead of shooting and war. Of course, he asked why anyone would want to play a game that does not include shooting or beating something up...LOL
