Accidentally Mentioning Animal Crossing in Conversation

Yes, I went to the pub to watch my sister sing karaoke and my best friend was there, I sat there the whole time talking to my friend about Animal Crossing! She's only just started playing so I was telling her about the island and which bugs to catch. Everyone else around us thought we were weird and when I told my boyfriend he told me I was sad lol

Haha so many stories, and for the person saying they dont engage in convo with people who laugh at others, it wasnt a mocking laugh. Plus one was my boss so not like i could say anything. One turned out to have been addicted to sonic in her youth!
They dont expect me to be a gamer I think is the main thing, when I mentioned my xbox, they were like, "eh whuuuut?"

It was raining irl earlier and I did think to myself, oh I hope its raining in my town so I can get a coelacanth for some extra bells...

I'll talk about any video games I enjoy playing, no matter how dumb they may seem or how childish. I enjoy them and will not be embarrassed about it. Video games are about having fun and Animal Crossing is fun for me. :)

I got Kinectimals when the Kinect came out and didn't care what the guys at EB Games thought. Lol. ^.^

Whenever someone tells me that Animal Crossing is a children's game, I explain to them how children simply love paying off mortgages, writing letters, planting trees, and spending hours contemplating different interior design ideas.

Exactly! Yes, I understand the general appeal to kids because the animals are so freakin' cute. However, when I was a kid, I don't know that I would be addicted to a game that has me organizing public works projects and canvassing the town to collect enough signatures to open a night club. Endless debt! Co-dependent neighbors! Buying famous works of art to donate to the museum! Literally selling the shirt off your back to finance a new camp site! All the things your average grade-schooler enjoys.

I am a 45 year old woman and I LOVE this game. I love the game so much I am building 2 towns. I have ACNL for my 3DS XL and one for my 3DS.*

The first game is in real time and I play as a girl. The 2nd game is played as a guy and the date is November.*

A couple of days ago I was playing the game and my "SIL" called. She asked what I was doing. I told her my neighbor Rory came over and gave me a blue bench.

She said "That is great you have nice neighbors." She asked what we were doing Saturday night. I told her husband and I are going to a new nightclub called Club LOL. I also told her I could not chat long because I had to go pick peaches.*

She said "I did know you had a peach tree."

When my husband came home, I told him about the conversation I had with his sister. My husband fell over laughing.

I thought I was the only one playing two games (on on the XL and the other on regular 3DS).

What other game can you go around shaking trees and have a urinal fall out? Fun times.

By the way, we're very close in age; we should exchange Friend Codes. Let me know if you add me and I'll add you back.

Since I'm still young enough for it to be acceptable to most people that I play video games, I luckily don't really have that problem. It's sort of annoying, though, that I'm the only person who really, really got into playing it out of the people I know. There are only two other people I know who play it, but both are really casual while I pretty much spent the whole month I've had the game earning bells and working on my town almost nonstop.

Not to bring the whole stereotypical gender roles thing into this conversation, but...

I find that it's less acceptable for us males to play these kinds of video games =\

Or video games at all, really. I'm not sure why that'd be the case, but it just seems like it is.

I think you're right, and it's really a pity that males can't play games where you don't have to kill stuff without being met with raised eyebrows.

Yes, if I played one of the myriad of first-person shooter games, it'd be more socially acceptable than admitting to playing a game where I plant fruit trees and water flowers while trying to find the perfect furniture replacement for the gold stereo that my bunny neighbor, Pippy, asked me to find for her.

I was at the movies with my friend (Who also plays AC:NL) and it was just playing the commercials before the actual movie trailer commercials. And, to my surprise, an AC:NL commercial. I just thought it was really nice seeing it on the big screen. My friend took a pic of it, and we laughed at the fact how addicting the game was.

That's just like me! I had two friends that played Wild World, and then we got another friend to play, but after that we never talked about it again and I'm scared to ask. I don't want them to say "What, you still play Animal Crossing? And there's a NEW ONE? Ha...I thought it was a younger game..." -.- But it's not! Animal Crossing can be loved by anyone! I feel like the only person in middle school that actually plays New Leaf. :/ I'm probably wrong, though.

I have nothing really new or interesting to tell, really. I mentioned to my manager that when I get home, I'll play AC. She asked the question and I filled in the details and she said "Ahh, neat!" in a genuine manner. She's familiar with games/anime/manga/the general range of geekery, so I'm lucky to have found a cool person to work under.

If I were to bring up AC around my friends.... No one would be surprised. Most of my friends also enjoy video games, anime, and manga to varying degrees, though it seems I'm the only one with a 3DS for the time being. :|

Generally people who play games know what Animal Crossing in my list of friends...but those who don't would also laugh (Because the name sounds pretty 5 y/o lol) and when I try to explain it's even worse ._.

I'm lucky that I'm a manager at a game store, so I don't get weird looks when I talk about Animal Crossing to everyone. LoL I talk about it all the time and keep my 3DS in the back to collect street passes. :)

I accidentally mentioned Animal Crossing in a chemistry laboratory. It was awkward. But then another guy said he used to play it and was considering getting New Leaf.

I had that happen in my Microbio class. It is always fun when people look over your shoulder to see what you are playing during breaks. Of course there are about two other classmates of mine I streetpass every day who also play the same game. :)
