Accidentally Mentioning Animal Crossing in Conversation

My Granddaughter (9 years old) and I play ACNL together (we played AC:WW together too). (good excuse, huh? LOL) We had a couple visitors to my town while she was there with me and she let loose over chat "MOM-MOM CAN I PICK SOME OF YOUR CHERRIES?" I just slapped myself in the forehead and replied "Yes, honey... go right ahead." My cover was blown!! :)

I play a lot of nintendo fantasy like games, like zelda and pokemon and animal crossing, so I can never talk about video games with my friends because I feel pathetic and geeky because they all play COD and all the other war shooting games.

^THIS.

Me: Hey I caught Articuno!
Friend: SHUT UP I'M BUSY KILLING PEOPLE ONLINE.
Me: Then you say I'm the one who has no life.

It's annoying when people say it's for little kids. I played the Gamecube version as a kid and I loved it! People act like Pokemon is for little kids too :c

At work I've explained that my best friend is a deer and they looked at me funny. :c

No one understands Zell and I. <3

I went out with a friend the other day and we walked past a wicker chair in a skip, I was like don't they know that's a cabana armchair!? Cue some funny looks and a bit of explaining. I Followed it later with 'hmm that's a nice path pattern' as we walke past someone's garden.

People laugh at us, but they're over there playing "Candy Crush" something or other. I laugh at them.

Then they beg you mercilessly with requests asking you for "lives" so they can move on to the next level. Or waste 99 cents to buy them. >.>

Yep, I accidentally said bells while buying something at the store. It was a while ago, but I think my friend and I went to a convenience store and I asked her for some change, and said "Hey, do you have 25 bell-I mean cents? Heh...." Luckily she played it too, but not as avidly as I do. Still, it was a little embarrassing. Also, whenever people mention it, I get really excited and start rambling. c:

One of the best things about ACNL is the broad appeal of it. I'm 44 (I think...kinda lost count, lol) and play a lot with a good friend who is 26, and because I work at a university I'm picking up a fair number of Streetpasses with both guys and girls. Friendly online environments where you can hang out with like-minded people and just be friends without worrying about age, gender, ethnicity or anything else are a precious thing IMO. But yeah, I may be playing a bit too much...if it's raining in my town and then I look out my window and see sunshine I get confused! And seeing stuff in shops and thinking "hey, that's from the cabana set!" (or whatever)...whistling the afternoon music in the afternoon... taking a whole new interest in fish.... ;)

yes but i usually don't engage in conversations with people who laugh at others for what they like.

I played this game on the game cube and I have had friends who are "hardcore gamers" mock me for it, skip ahead some weeks and turns out they went and bought it after playing it a bit at my place for kicks. Its a game that you need to play to understand. I find that the hardcore gaming community is missing out on what gaming really is. (i'm looking forward to the villager in super smash brothers wii u)

I accidentally mentioned Animal Crossing in a chemistry laboratory. It was awkward. But then another guy said he used to play it and was considering getting New Leaf.

i'm only 18 and i make no secret of my love for sonic the hedgehog and disney princesses so people just assume animal crossing is another childish thing, but quite a few people i've talked to are really interested in it!! i explain it as "it's like sims but with animals and your character doesn't need to be taken care of" ;) haha

This sums it up for me!
hahahaha

Don't be ashamed of playing games!
Some people I know do worse things!

All of my friends know that I play ACNL considering that I post Facebook statuses about it every now and then. A few of my RL friends play it :)

My boyfriend would play mock me about it at first, especially because I bought my 3DS exclusively for this game. (I got others, but I wouldn't have bought it if not for AC.) Fast forward to now-he constantly asks how my town is and whether I've caught anything new, and sometimes when he's over he'll fish for me for an hour or so.

Mission complete. :)

As a 28 year old male I worry that I'm not quite part of the Animal Crossing target audience, but there's just something that's so much fun about this game that makes me not care whether it's meant for me or not. My housemate who is the same age also plays so we talk about it a fair bit.

On the rare occasions that I play when my girlfriend is there I'll usually make a bit of a joke out of it pretending that I urgently have to go and water my flowers or say 'Oh no, the crocodile's upset the big chicken again!'.

I mentioned it at a formal meal before a film award event. It was actually the day before the game was due out in the UK, but I got it early through pre-order, so instantly when I mentioned it a friend I didn't even know was an AC fan says, "Wait - you have it already? But it's not out until tomorrow." The rest of the table didn't understand our enthusiasm as we got excited and started reminiscing about WW together. He bombarded me with questions I couldn't answer because I'd only played it for about an hour. ^^;
