Inspired by my use of the change rating system, I decided to post an open-ended quiz where you (the commenters) can rate the changes from -3 to +3, where +3 and -3 represent changes that influence your opinion on the work, +2 and -2 represent changes that you liked/disliked a lot but doesn’t influence your opinion, +1 and -1 represent changes you liked/disliked but have a more neutral feeling, and 0 represent changes you do not care about at all. For more information on the change rating system, see Countdown to Animal Crossing New Horizons: 8 Months.

School Changes:

It’s the summer of 2020, and Imagination High School has made several changes to begin its 51st year. Despite staff changes, student council policies, and external factors, Imagination High School makes major changes every 10 years. These changes introduce new school subjects, add or subtract extracurricular clubs, replace textbooks with newer editions, and change the graduation requirements. But in 2020, Imagination High School has been far more revolutionary. They made several expansions to make room for more students, and changed several policies and structures as the new generation of students comes by. The new changes are to remain in effect until 2030.

As a commenter, your job is to rate each of the 20 changes Imagination High School has made from -3 to +3, then calculate the average. There is no right or wrong answer. It’s up to your opinion.

  1. Three new buildings were added to the campus, one for art and human sciences, one for industrial technology, and one for science classes and science labs. This not only opened more slots for every class, but it also added new classes (such as four classes related to each segment of hospitality and new foreign languages to teach).
  2. Due to the rising digital age, every school classroom (except for classes that require physical equipment such as music classrooms and science labs) has turned into computer labs. This means assignments must be submitted through the internet as textbooks are 100% digital. This also means that there is more classwork, there is more homework, group assignments are done in internet forums, and some classes like Computer Literature and Typing Skills are obsolete and no longer taught.
  3. Nobody have to follow the same graduation requirements anymore. Every student enrolling in high school can choose one of the 10 academic subjects (English, Math, Science, Social Studies, Foreign Language, Art, Music, Human Science, Business, Industrial Tech) they want to study more, and their graduation requirements will reflect that. For instance, those that chose Math will have to take all four years of Math, those that chose Industrial Tech or Science will have to take three years of Math, and those that chose others will have to take two years of Math. There’s also specific classes required for some majors that aren’t required for others.
  4. The school policy now enforces greater punishments for bullying, sexual harassment, and hate speech. At the same time, they also start punishing people for false reporting.
  5. Due to how popular pizza and burgers are, the school added both a pizzeria and a burger joint to the campus. This allowed the cafeteria to sell foods other than burgers and pizza more often. The trade-off, no more fast food deliveries allowed.
  6. Since the last martial arts teacher retired, the school no longer teach martial arts at school. All students are required to take a generic gym class to fulfill their gym requirements.
  7. Gendered bathrooms are no longer a system in the school. Toilets are separated into different rooms than stalls, and sinks are in the main room of the bathroom.
  8. For the past 20 years, foreign language was nothing more than a recommended subject to graduate if people want to get lower ACT/SAT requirements for college. Now, foreign language is a required subject, as students must take two years of the same language.
  9. After its 30 year run, the Geography Club (a club that has an international travel experience each summer) has been removed from the list if extracurricular clubs.
  10. The Pledge of Allegiance, removed 10 years ago, has been reinstated. Students that refuse to stand can be written up.
  11. Despite keeping the long-term promise to not implement school uniforms, they added new dress code rules to keep boys and girls unique. The dress code also lifts the ban on hats.
  12. American History classes focus less on the Holocaust and other world events, but focus more on the Civil Rights Era. The Holocaust is still covered extensively in World History, World Geography, and English (if a Holocaust story is being taught).
  13. English classes now spend the first 15 minutes on the building blocks of language (i.e. parts of speech, text structure, appeals, figurative language) while they still focus on literature for the rest of the class. Before that, they used to have a lot of days that don’t focus on them at all.
  14. The new Algebra 1 textbooks removed chapters on Exponential, Radical, and Rational functions as they added chapters to explain other concepts (such as polynomials and solving equations) more thoroughly. The Algebra 2 textbooks have also been updated to crunch Algebra 1 material together to add more room for more advanced concepts.
  15. Physics classes now put angular velocity in the motion chapters rather than later in the course.
  16. New classes include Animation, Game Design, and Comic Book Design.
  17. All grades can now have finals exemptions, not just seniors. The higher the grade (9 to 12), the more exemptions they can have.
  18. A new school event is added - Fundraiser Week. It’s an event where 100 student sellers sell to other students to raise funds to fund the school’s amenities. The student teams that make the most money wins big prizes.
  19. Part of the new graduation requirements suggest that students must take two courses that relate to each other. For instance, they can take American Geography and American History without taking World Geography, but they cannot take American Geography and World Geography without at least one of the two histories.
  20. The school can no longer confiscate cell phones. Instead, students that are caught cheating or disrupting class will be sent to the office.
