I LOVE Platformers but I am super interested in difficult platforming now that I am older than when I was a kid so I am more picky about them now.
I also love a good story so... if I have that I don't mind if the platforming isn't as difficult. Such as Iconoclasts. That was a great story. I'd have to say probably an 8 or 9 out of 10. I couldn't wait to pick the game back up when it was time to put it down just to find out what happens next. (Note: may not be for you if you don't like weird stories). Its special mechanic was getting around with a wrench which was fun and different. The platforming itself wasn't that difficult but some of the boss battles were in my opinion. It really is a great game in general honestly.
I plan on picking up Celeste and Dandara. Yes I know, I am slow to that party... lol They look like fun and so many people have said great things about these games. I have played The Messenger for the first time in 2019 all the way through and I absolutely love that game and thought would like to have another similar experience. I bet I would enjoy Celeste alot.
The Messenger I think has a good story. Like it has it's role but this game is definitely about platforming, difficult platforming. Or at least it was to me. But it was also alot of fun. Made me want to pull my hair out sometimes though. I didn't get bored with it and did look forward to picking it back up again when I had free time. It's special feature was time travel within the levels through portals which does change the graphics from 8 bit to 16 bit.. Collectibles exist in both time zones to gather. There is some back tracking but I didn't find it terrible. Music was great.
Nintendo based platformers I don't have anymore, but I enjoyed Mario as a kid. Anything beyond that is long gone to the 90s and early 2000s.

I was curious what platforming games are out there currently available that I may not know about that you would recommend or that you loved. I am sure other platformer fans are always looking for another good one to hop on so why not make a thread for reference for a gem?
List up!

Have you heard of Cuphead? That game is more of a mix of boss platforming and shooting, but there are regular platform levels as well to beat, but the difficulty is quite high. Story is very lenient, the story goes like this, two cup brothers played in the devils casino, lost, owe the devil their souls, make a deal to collect other peoples souls for losing in the casino to then be free, they find out it was a trick, they fight the devil, and the cup brothers win. The real fun comes from the bosses and their wacky transformations and the awesome 50s-60s cartoon style that goes with it! :)

Ori and the Will of the Wisps
Ori and the Blind Forest

The Ori series is excellent. I think you'd enjoy both.

Also, I see you mentioned Dandara. That's a very nice game.

I love platforming games
here's a few that I'd recommend.
Mario: 64, Sunshine, Galaxy 1 and 2, Odyssey (Mario really is a solid platformer franchise that's as hard as you make it if you're a completionist Oydessey is quite hard to find all 999 moons but definitely still give it a shot)

Spyro Reignighted, loved the original trilogy as a kid and it's a decent homage

Hollow Knight, super hard and super satisfying, lots for platforming puzzels similar to celeste with some dark souls like bosses, 10/10 game and it's only 15 bucks

Hat in Time not suuuper difficult but it has it's challenging parts, super charming "cute as heck"

You would not be disappointed in any of these games

I grew up on platforming games but every time I play, I always manage to suck at them. I'm always mashing that eventually leads me to my doom. I need to be more careful regarding my inputs. 😭

I enjoyed Unravel. It has a story going on in the background that's pretty much silent, and the environment is quite pretty. Unravel 2 is especially good for 2-player co-op and is just as self-contained as the first game. The mechanics are neat. You swing around and propel yourself through the stage while solving little puzzles.

Celeste is really good! I got stuck though, so thanks for reminding me to get back into it. :p The story is really endearing so far, and I'm assuming the rest will continue to be wholesome. The death count is interesting, and collecting all the optional strawberries is addicting. I'd say the game's quite challenging.

I haven't gotten around to buying celeste yet and it will probably be a little while, I just think the game looks alot of fun for platforming and I hear the game is about anxiety and oh man Lord knows it kicks my butt. I think I will enjoy the dialog/story of celeste.

It is! As someone who also has anxiety, I also think you will enjoy the dialogue and story. haha

I also downloaded Fe at one point, because it's a platformer and super pretty, but I haven't gotten to playing it yet, so I have no idea if it's any good yet. I'll probably post in this thread again once I get to it.
