Hi All,

Now that the game has been out for awhile, can someone explain to me the progression for inviting villagers?

1) You start with two villagers at random

2) You can decide on the next three villagers through island visits (is this true)

3) First smug is randomly determined through campsite?

Everything you stated there is true/correct.

I'll add that, after the (forced) camper, you have to select plots from then on to set up where future prospective villagers will live.

If you do not have any plots made, you will never encounter villagers on your mystery island visits. And if you do have a plot when you visit an island, it will be guaranteed to have a villager there whom you can then invite if you so choose.

Also, since this is a pretty common question, I should also mention that villagers ask you if they can move out once you have 8 or more villagers. More importantly, in this game, villagers are not able to leave your town unless they confirm with you first. Therefore, they no longer up and vanish without your knowledge or consent anymore.

Thank you!!!

For the first 3 villagers to invite, what are the designated personalities?

And are there designated personalities following the smug or is it randomized after?

Can confirm! and i love this new feature I hated in the past games when they'd move out on you.

No problem. Sadly, I don't know about the personalities so I'm not going to even try to answer that. Don't want to spread misinformation. Hopefully someone else can help you with that.

iirc the only types of villager that will move in to the first 3 plots after your starting villagers will be a normal, lazy and peppy villager. They should also be the only types you can encounter on the mystery islands at this stage too.

So is there no in-game mechanism to for sure get a snooty or cranky villager?

Just to clarify: must they be one of each type, or could you potentially get, for example, 3 normal villagers?

I assume it's the former case, but just wanted to make sure.

Thanks!

I believe it's one of each type.

As far as I know, you'll never have one forced on you. But from what people have posted, the island tours tend to lean toward giving you crankies and snooties after you move in your campsite smug. You can find other personalities, but there's a slight bias toward types you shouldn't have yet.
