The biggest thing I’m struggling with in this game is the 10 villager cap.... New Leaf had 12 so I didn’t expect a new game on a bigger platform to be fewer. It’s because you can have up to eight switch accounts and then eight human houses, but I don’t share my switch with even one person and I find it hard to believe someone could share a switch between eight people and they would all want a house on the island. The island is Huge and most of my empty space is devoted to flowers and random decorations, but I’d happily sacrifice my soccer field for the chance to get even two more villagers! Do you think they’ll ever allow more? Do you think 10 is too few???

I'd love at least 12 but preferably 14 and for all those complaining about it being too many - give them a choice.
People should not be obliged to put more plots of land if they want their cap at 10.
Unlike in New Leaf (not sure about the other installments since I haven't played them), villagers can no longer leave without informing us.
So we no longer have to run after every single villager and worry about not playing for a few days at a time in the fear that someone might move out.

Now, are we going to get more than 10 eventually?
I really don't know.
I feel that a lot of stuff in the game is pending so it's hard to predict at this point.

3 games had the max villager limit as 10. What did they say that 10 was the perfect number for the amount of villagers living in a town and stuck with it?

I just like how we went from 15 down to 8. WW got the short end of the stick.

and yeah, while I know that some people might be sharing Switches, it is highly unlikely that you'll be playing the game with Grandma or Grandpa.
Unless, they allow for amenities such as schools, restaurants, dream suite, etc., I find it a bit unjustifiable that the cap is 10.

I totally agree! I have so much wasted space and I’m like “okay I’ll guess I’ll build.... another fountain here” because the island is literally huge and the houses don’t take up that much room. I want at least 12 :/

I feel like it easily could have been programmed to be a compromise. You don't want more than 8 villagers total? Cool, you don't have to buy extra plots.
You can have a total of lets say 18 plots meaning you could have 12 animal villagers and 6 player houses...or you could have 10 villagers 8 players. Edit however needed. That way so and so who wants 8 players has the space and less residents but other person who wants more residents less players has their deal.

I think this would have also added a level of unique-ness to people's towns. Seeing how others choose their villager/player numbers and how they prioritize the areas would have been very interesting.

This is exactly what I was hoping for - give people a choice!
After seeing the direct I was fairly certain that we'd get 12 at the very least.
We can only hope that they'll release an update that will allow for some amendments down the line.

I would love it if they added the option to place up to 15 plots. The island is big enough to do so. And that would let people customize the numbers more. Like me, who is totally just sitting at 8 villagers currently.

It would be a really unique feature to see how people would choose to balance their island villager ratio. I find it frustrating that I can only have 10 villagers, but can add 7 more player houses... I have sooo much room and I think 10 is far too limiting. Been the playing the game for so long I’ve fell in love with so many villagers along the way.

I really wish we had 15 villagers like in the Gamecube Animal Crossing and this is not the only thing New Horizons could learn from the original.

I'd love 12 villagers but I'm okay with 10, tbh. It's something I'm used to from CF and NL so I don't mind it not changing. I wouldn't mind an upgrade to villager space either, though.

Maybe in the future Nintendo may have an expansion pack DLC sort of thing where you can make your island bigger, therefore increasing the cap on villagers you may have? That'd be neat.

There is so much content still waiting to be unraveled in the coming months and years via updates or even fleshed out expansions! How about this scenario: After some time has passed, villagers can share houses as part of a living community, opening up space for new plots, or we might even be able to expand the island somehow, since I have a feeling that, with all of the homes, the pathing, decorations, landscaping areas and (new, downloadable) buildings (public places, shops, police?, cafe?, etc) free space on our islands will be utterly scarce after a while.
