When you transfer to Switch 2, will you be using your Switch 1 for a 2nd Island?

What will you be doing with your Switch 1 after transfer

  • Start a new island and let the addiction begin again!

  • I will most likely sell mine

  • I'm going to give it to someone

  • I currently don't own a switch 1

  • I dunno?

  • Other?

  • I will keep my old island on my old Switch and start a new one on my Switch 2

New Horizons brought a lot of great things, like being able to completely design your island and even modify your map and move building structures and such. One thing I think most of us can agree on though that's quite frustrating... is being limited to one island per switch. It would have been swell if Nintendo allowed us to have more islands we can designs, even if it's through paid DLC but alas, it never came. With the Switch 2 releasing though, and with backwards compatibility and game data transfer from the Switch 1, what is left for our old Switch 1 other than selling it but to start a New Horizon altogether? Will you be using starting a 2nd island? Or are you just going to sell your Switch instead?

I haven't seen anything from Nintendo about being able to trade in our old Switches. I'm most likely going to start a new island altogether because truth be told, I actually have two switches right now, my first model and the OLED which I trasfered data on. I've been reluctant on getting a Switch 2 but I think I've decided to jump on it... once they have one available that is.

My understanding regarding transferring data is that you can transfer your data from a Switch to a dedicated server prior to having a Switch 2, and then being able to retrieve it afterward. It's something like, System Settings > System > System Transfer to Nintendo Switch 2, and then there's an option to upload to the server. After getting a Switch 2, one can link their account on the new console, and then retrieve the data. I know my local game store is advising people about this because they're offering trade-in deals.

I have a Switch and a Switch Lite, so I already have two islands. I hadn't thought about it until now, but I think what I will do is transfer my OG island from my Lite to my Switch 2. Or, I may delete my second island from my Switch, transfer my OG from my Lite to my Switch, and then I'll still have the opportunity to create a new island on the Switch 2 in the future! I plan on keeping my Switch Lite and Switch even after getting the Switch 2, but I'll likely store the Switch Lite away completely at that point!

I'm planning to start a new island on the switch 2. I currently share an island on switch, so the switch 2 will be just me on the island.

I'm planning to have a second copy of the game, and also will create a second nintendo account. I'm hoping this let's me visit my old island for when i need extra fruit or items, but through local play, so i don't have to get a second nso.

Yes I plan on making a 3rd island on my Switch 1. I have a physical copy that I wasn't able to pick up during lockdown. It was already paid for. The 3rd Island is going to be played when I have some spare time. It's the first time I'll be able to change the system clock on a console (next AC game bring back the in game clock) and pick a season and time that works. I'll kept track of the last date played so I can pick up where I left off.

The first 2 islands names were Sunrise and Sunset. Moonlight will be the Island name and for now character name will be Willow. My main Switch island has purchased a few items to help. Garbage can, mirror and the Green Pipes will be helpful when I start playing.

I didn't consider that so I added it to the poll. I actually might do that myself but it's still something to think about for me.

I don’t know when I will be buying a switch two. Probably not for awhile. I already have two switch lites so two islands. If I do buy the switch 2 I will just start a new island on there.

I already gave my Switch Lite to my niece, so she could experience ACNH! I had a second island, but I didn't really have the time for it. I probably won't when the Switch 2 is released either.

I will probably be like the rest of us and anxiously wait for the next game in the series!

I likely won't be getting Switch 2 anytime soon unless a new Animal Crossing is announced. My priority at the moment will be keeping up with payments and bills as the school district I work for enters summer vacation.

In the event that I do get one and a new Animal Crossing isn't announced yet, I'll probably start a new island. In fact, I may even stream my progress on Twitch as it's been a hidden interest of mine to do so someday. Of course, that would also involve getting a capture card, microphone (not comfortable with face cam), and knowledge of how to stream. I could also just start over on my older Switch, but I don't want to lose the map layout I have now. Decisions, decisions...

My plan is to transfer my current island to the Switch 2, and then make a new one on my switch lite. It’ll be a while before I get my own switch 2 though so I haven’t given it much thought - I expect it’s years off lol

obligatory: i will not be getting a switch 2 poll response 😝

after my ACNH switch 1 (still working good. still has my original 2020 island), i bought the TOTK switch 1 OLED with a matching ergonomic grip from skull & co. and i really don't feel like i lack for anything with the experience. its in pristine condition and the screen is a great size/quality and it runs heavier games nearly seamlessly. plus its beautiful and much more in my color scheme 🤭

my only ponderance - that i hope folks with the switch 2 will answer - is, how does the 2 deal with exterior item heavy island lagging? is the lagging noticeably less or unchanged? i noticed a distinct upgrade from 1 to 1 OLED, so am very curious is that continues with the 2. 👀💫 i hope so ! for everyone's sake !
