I've seen several methods about having villagers ping you to move, but I would like to know what is the best method or the method that has worked best for you?

TTing is the only way I've had success getting a villager to move out. Reporting them to the Town hall does nothing and hitting them with your tools only makes them stay longer apparently.

Time Travel 2 days and see if you get a ping, time travel 2 days back and see if you get a ping etc

You can't really make certain villagers move...

But, if you're nice to them, if they ask to move out and you say okay, they'll thank you for the friendship, being a good mayor etc. If you aren't nice to them, sometimes they'll say no, that our friendship needs to get better.

As for pinging, I usually talk to 2-3 villagers a day to see if there are any moving villagers. If it's someone I like, I save and quit, reload the game, and go in front of that villagers house. They are always there and will always ping about moving when I using this tactic.

If it's a villager I don't want, I just let them go. If I am not sure if the friendship level is high enough, I ignore them if they ping.

This is all really good advice! I agree with all of it!

I especially watch out if the friendship isn't high enough because most likely they will say they want to get to know me better and refuse to move away!! Be careful - it has happened to me a lot!

So you can keep talking to them and bring your friendship level up, or ignore their ping and hear rumors from other villagers that they want to move out. Then you wait or TT until moving day!!

Honestly the best way is to befriend them. Ignoring does not work. Also do not TT 2 days forward and 2 back omg so many people have lost their dreamies like that. TT one day at a time. But anyway, yeah I tried for weeks to get Rizzo out after ignoring him forever, while my best friends Sterling and Chief constantly ping to move. (Also be aware that the most recent person to move in will not move out until someone else moves in after them)

You're totally right - ignoring does not work, unless you have a cycling town. But when you have Dreamies in your town and you are trying to get one or two villagers you don't want out, talking to the person you want out will bring up the friendship and they will be more likely to ping.

Honestly there is a lot involved when you want to move someone out! It's not easy. Sometimes it is work, especially when Dreamies keep pinging and not the person you want out. Just keep at it!

Talk to them loads! TT 2-3 days and look around, if a villager mentions anything about Rumours and it's not about someone leaving then its an indicator that no one will leave on that particular day.

Definitely don't ignore them, because if they give you that crap about changing their mind in order to work on your friendship, the only thing you can possibly do to still get them to move out when they said they would is to shut down the game without saving, restart the day, and then just ignore them when they ping you again for the next couple of days. Whenever I TT, I make sure to just talk once to every villager I see outdoors before I TT to the next day. Since I started doing that, I've never had a villager change their mind about moving.

Wow, this thread is so helpful to me. I've heard so many different things about getting villagers to move out. I just started my town and while there are lots of villagers I don't favor and would like to leave, I still prefer to give villagers and chance and not hate them. It would be nice to get to know them a little and enjoy them while they're here in a natural way before they decide to move. I was worried before reading this thought that that would just encourage them to stay, so I should just ignore them like everywhere else I've read!

I must admit, I wish there was some more empirical data available on the subject, since it's so hotly debated, hahaha. For now, I'll just talk to the non-want villagers casually and encourage some extra pings every few days.

Time traveling back and forth 2 days really worked for me. Helped me get out Lily when she put her house right in front of mine. T_T

Being nice to a villager to increase friendship helps out, otherwise they usually won't talk to you about moving or will stay to increase their friendship with you.

Once this is done though the TT is a very effective way to get a moving ping. It can be risky if not done correctly. Don't TT 2 days forward and 2 days back, TT 2 days forwards and talk to everyone and see if you get a moving ping. Usually if you don't get a ping and someone is looking to move another villager will tell you and you can wait for them to come back from shopping, retailing whatever they might be doing and get a ping from them.

If you don't get a ping and no one wants to move TT back 2 days and repeat until the person you want to move pings you. You should also TT back to your regular date if you do get a ping from TTing 2 days forward just to correct the date. You won't get a moving ping from two villagers (only one villager can be moving at once).

I had no idea that ignoring them wouldn't work! I guess I'll have to chat with all of the villagers I don't want to kick them out now. Once when I had Elise in my town and was looking to get rid of her she pinged me about leaving and ended up staying because I'd been ignoring her. I definitely learned my lesson about that now!

So to all those people who say they talk to their villagers, I have a question:
When you talk to them to see if someone's moving out, and they ask for fish or bugs or for you to deliver something, or (the most important part of this question), they invite you over or want to go over to your house, what do you do? Do you refuse? Do you do it and let them hang out or something?
This was honestly my least favourite part of cycling, I felt so bad declining villagers to do things.

I meant talk to them to see if someone's moving out >.<

Ugh. I need Moose to move out. His eyebrows bother me lol
I would try time traveling but I just did that to be able to get certain things quickly since I just restarted my game...
Would that set back what I time traveled forward for you think?

Nope! It wouldn't set back what you did. I time travel back and forth all the time. Going back, doesn't matter how far, it could be a whole year, and it would only count as one day going forward. Like, for example, if it's October 13th, 2015 and you time travel back to February 2nd, 2014, the game would act like you only travelled from February 1st, 2014 to February 2nd, 2014. However, time travelling forward (probably obvious but) doesn't work that way.

I found a method on the interweb that doesn't use TTing, if you don't TT. It's really time consuming though, and you have to be patient.

Even though it's for PWPs, I would think it'd work for moving villagers as well.

I don't think it works the same though. With PWPs, it just takes someone to ping and suggest which can be random. But if no one is moving that day, no matter how much you do the diving trick, they're not going to ping you to move.

As long as you're on speaking terms with them and it's not the hourly "you should rest" message (and if you do get that, just go into a building and go back outside and run in front of them), they'll ping you and tell you they're moving.

Also, there is a "rumour" trick for knowing when villagers are moving.
As quoted from the "Villager Moving Rumors Guide",

When no one has no intention of moving, villagers will talk about these. (These are taken from the AC wikia, with the Peppy one added by me since it was missing.)

-Cranky villagers will state that rumors can be frightening.
-Jock villagers may ask to spread rumors about their latest world record, or complain that others say that they are a prince from another planet.
-Normal villagers will comment that they will only spread rumors they have seen themselves.
-Smug villagers may remark that they have done things with other villagers, but refuse to elaborate on the details.
-Snooty villagers will use fabricated examples to show the player that simple rumors can spread very quickly.
-Uchi villagers will complain that rumors are circulating that they are known for one sport, when it is in fact another.
-Peppy villagers will ask the player for any gossip, think you are keeping something secret, and ask for you to spread the details.

I repeat. WHEN NO ONE IS MOVING, VILLAGERS WILL TALK ABOUT THE ABOVE RUMORS.

Lazy is missing but I don't remember that one..

the 'TT 2 days forward' method didnt really worked for me. but this method does.

1) run around the town to get moving pings
2) if you get a favorite villager ping you, deny, save and quit.
3) TT 6days forward. Save and quit immediately.
4) TT 6days back to present time and run around to get pings.

do this until the villager you want to kick pings you to move.

I ignored the villager and he was leaving the town after 2 and a half week!
