I let people into my island to sell turnips and a bunch people showed up and started catching bugs and stole my star fragments. It was rough. Sorry this happened to you!

I hosted for a diy today, and I'm always very upfront with my rules (they're simple, more like directions than rules per se), and so far, I only had a minor problem once (I say minor problem because in the end it isn't a problem at all due to the fact villagers can't move out without you allowing them to do so), but it was one person in about 25-30 that visited me through 3 hosting sessions.

I often allow people to shop and catch bugs and fish, but it's something that people shouldn't to without being allowed. I say this because sometimes, there's a lot of people waiting to come over to get that diy recipe and that one person running around just slows the process for everyone.

Sorry that happened to you. I hosted a crafting/DIY recipe giveaway last week and it was fine. I listed clear rules, one person ran so I told them off lmao, but otherwise it went fine.

My advice is always the same in these threads: don't leave anything lying around that you're not happy to give away; do your own shopping first; collect your shells/star fragments first; make sure any valuables are placed inside your house or storage.

Not a big fan of the turnip exchange. Things can go wrong that the automated system can't help with.
