I don't care whether they're popular or not. In New Leaf I had Moose and Marshal in the same town before, and I liked them both. Lolly's also one of my favorite villagers ever, since she reminds me of my own cat. Most of my favorites aren't that popular though, which makes sense since the vast majority of villagers don't get much attention.

idk. i dont think i would ever personally feel bad about any villagers i may have, but the comments some ppl make towards people who have popular villagers do make me feel an emotion. mostly anger but. popular villagers are sought after for a reason, they're cute or cool looking or something else!! its like famous singers and stuff. preferences arent something u can choose but being mean is so. if u feel bad bc of other ppl just block and move on!! but if u feel bad bc of urself then maybe some change or ruminating is needed.

nope. your game, your decision.
if you like a villager then so be it. who cares if the community think x y z about a certain villager. i never truly understand why ppl like to suck the fun out of a villager for the next person just bc they're boohoo "overrated" or considered "ugly" 🙄
ultimately any game would be more fun if you play for your own personal enjoyment and acnh is no exception :)

Poppy, Marshal and Francine might be overrated, but I like having them.
It's impossible to overrate Poppy. :) And I just wanted to say I adore your little picture of all those squirrels--Sally doesn't get enough love!

But to the topic: It doesn't much matter to me because I personally have several favorites who seem to be widely disliked. I don't feel any embarrassment for that, so it doesn't make sense to me to feel "guilty" for liking what so many others do. I love Lolly as much as many others, and I'm sure there are reasons why she is so popular, but I also will never, ever, ever let Grizzly leave my island no matter how low some people want to "rank" him.

I like cute villagers and I don't care. :) My villagers probably aren't the most original lot but they make me happy and that's all that matters.

I don't think I care about popular though. I got rid of Audie because I just didn't click with her and I passed on Raymond when I was island hopping. I considered Sherb (he's adorable) but I think he'd be too similar to Erik and there's no way I'm letting him go.

Woah! Thank you all so much for the replies! I have moved Freya in without shame.. mostly because i love her winged eyeliner and i'm sucker for snooties ! ahha

lmao why though? there's nothing wrong with having either popular or unpopular villagers.

As others have mentioned I think the important aspect of choosing your villagers is who you like the best no matter what their "perceived" popularity is because everyone has a different opinion on who they think is popular.

Not really. Who I have is who I have. I don't care how popular or unpopular they are, as long as I like them that's all that matters.

Like others said it’s your island so you got to pick the villagers that you yourself want.

That being said, personally I don’t want an island full of extremely popular villagers. Makes it look so boring since everyone has them. I have Marina , Zucker, Rosie (for the moment) and Julian. None of them are on my island because of their popularity. For some reason I want the rest to be unpopular villagers. I guess I just like underdogs and seeing fresh faces on my island.

To be really honest it makes me cringe a little when people want popular villagers just because they’re popular. I once saw a guy on youtube who was new at AC and didn’t know any villagers. When he was island hopping he would always check the “tier list” before inviting them. That’s just stupid imo. People should just want villagers because they like them and not because they’re popular.

I wouldn't care if my villagers were at the very bottom of the popularity list. I have them because I like them, not because they're who everyone else has. Animal Crossing is meant to be played however you want, so if you want villagers that happen to be popular there's no reason to feel bad about it. I will admit that I grabbed Raymond from my campsite purely to see what the hype was all about, but I genuinely like his design and enjoy having him on my island.

This is the first animal crossing game I own (borrowed original from friend for a month) So any villager is new and cool for me x'D;;; I really like to just meet new villagers =3

back in the days in New Leaf i only got villagers that were popular bt now in NH i just get whoever i want, popular or not. It makes me happy so who cares.

I mean, if you like the design then why not have them? I have several dreamies (Zucker, Audie and Wolfgang come to mind) and I love all of them. I also want Raymond but that’s because he’s an accountant (my brother is an accountant now!)

I only feel bad because people always make comments about having or wanting popular villagers, but its not like I do it on purpose. My favorite villagers, such as Rosie and Stitches, just happen to be popular, but I love their designs and personality.

The question doesn't make any sense. You're playing your own game. Why would you even care about what others think? It's the same goes for me. Then again, this doesn't mean I am not open for discussions though. It's all about the mindset.

I reckon these villagers are so popular because they appeal to the majority of players, and chances are... you are in that majority. :p
Half my country owns an iPhone. Did that make me feel bad about having one? No, because I liked iOS and the design (especially of the iphone 6 series). Now I just can't afford the bloody thing. xD

I got all my villages myself. Either a random move in, camper, or an island. I'm not trying to look for anyone in particular.

Most people will be on my island for a couple of minutes and only the people I regularly play with know who I have and they don't care.

If people are ragging on you for having popular villagers, that's their problem. You play the game however you want.
