Do you feel bad about having popular villagers?

No. I have some dreamies I got on here and some I knew are popular who showed up at camp or on a mystery island and I decided to give them a shot and love them.
This is a chill game and your island should be a little space for you to go relax and feel comfortable. You should have whoever you like and enjoy yourself, no reason to feel bad.

The only popular villager I have is Cookie, and I just got her naturally through the campsite. She has been a great addition to the group and I don't see her as better than the others at all. She fits right in!

I would understand feeling weird if you bought all the popular villagers from someone online and then your island suddenly felt not authentic to you anymore. I think my island would feel staged and less real if I did that. So I think it depends on the person and whether or not they really love those villagers or are just doing it for the hype.

But honestly, get whoever you want! If you like a popular villager, go for it! Don't hold back because you don't want to be "mainstream", it's okay!

I guess I haven't really had a ton of popular villagers, so it's hard for me to talk personally. Maybe the closest I've come is having had Wolfgang and Flora in NL, and Sprinkle in this game (I have Marina too but she doesn't count because I'm not keeping her lol). None of them are super popular - I would more consider them just well-known - but I kept them because I liked them and the popular opinion had no effect on who they were in my town.

Maybe it's part of people's need to feel unique/like an individual, and when your tastes for villagers match the majority opinion, that uniqueness can feel threatened. Insults like "basic" get thrown around all the time. We forget there's a reason they're popular, though that reason might be stranger for some villagers than for others. I felt a little weird at first when I found out my baby Melba is more popular now than she was in NL, until I accepted the fact she's finally getting the recognition she deserves.

Nope, I like the villagers I like. I feel like many popular villagers become that way because they have eye-pleasing designs that aren’t too extreme in any one direction (e.g. pastel or muted colours, no uncanny valley designs, fit a variety of themes, etc.). Most of the villagers I like have natural colourations found in their real-life counterparts, and I think this familiarity also makes them appealing to a wide variety of players.

So just because I generally don’t like less popular villagers, it’s not because I want a popular character island to show off. It’s because the designs are nice to me and a lot of other people. And I don’t think anyone should feel guilty for that.

There are villagers I like and dislike (whether they're popular or not doesn't phase me) but I try to play with an open mind and accept everyone I get, and I always warm up to them whoever they are. The only villagers I'd be slightly irked at getting are those "dirty" looking ones, like Stinky and that hippo with the beard whose name escapes me

I do really want Sherb though, because I thought he was adorable as soon as the first picture of him was released. Nobody was even mentioning him back then so I'm surprised he's suddenly so popular!

All my villagers are super popular s tier and I don't care if anybody calls me a basic B for it!

I don't know who is popular. I know Marshal is still popular. I don't feel bad. I did it to show off, not that that matters. I have Tangy, too. I don't know how popular she is, but some people on Twitter were really liking my posts about her. I just had her move in for old times' sake.

No, I don't care. I have a few somewhat popular and unpopular vllagers but it really doesn't matter to me how popular they are. Only the ones I didn't plan I keeping is when I cared about their popularity like Julian, Lucky, Audie, ect. so I could sell them for a good price or give them away to one of my friends.

Not that I don't appreciate other unpopular or "ugly" villagers! Elvis has been my ride-or-die since Wild World (not that he's even ugly! he's so posh and cool)

I guess I'm starting to feel a bit cliché ! i just added Sherb to my island (the perfect ig shots of him finally got to me)!

So now my villagers are: Audie, Buck (i love his eyebrows), Elvis, Fang, Marshall, Merengue, Raymond (was curious about all the hype, but if he asks to leave, I'll let him), Sherb, and Skye!

I have Freya's card so i'm thinking about adding her but I'm worried my town is too cliche or boring! And now i wondering who I should add instead!

To be honest I don't really know what the popularity of all my villagers are. >.>

My current villagers:

I'm fairly confident that Beau and Zell are pretty popular, and I'd be surprised if Dom didn't have a following, but I know just about nothing in terms of how popular Pango or Knox are for example. I just love villagers because they're adorable and they like to naruto run. Sometimes they read books while studying flowers, and one time Melba sent me a letter when I was having a hard day saying how much she appreciated me.

I guess I don't even really think about how popular they are; I just want them to be happy.
