Do you consider it cheating...?

Nah, I don't consider it cheating.
Cheating to me is when you take advantage of an exploit that is specifically NOT intended to be part of the game on release (hi dupe glitch, how are ya?) - seeing as all games have the option to quit without saving (rip Resetti) it technically is intended and meant to be there from the start.

It's not because Resseti exits. Nintendo advised against it because of save corruption but didnt care if you did it. ACNL even made Resseti into a optional character to have.

In my opinion there is no cheating in Animal Crossing. Other than hacking or exploiting glitches. TT'ing, resetting for specific things, or resetting to undo things are not cheating nor a big deal. Lol. Like do what you want it's supposed to be a chill non-competitive game.

its not cheating. i onced closed the game when i redeemed the diy for that giant robot to find out how ridiculous the needed material was I got mad I closed the game. A waste of points i thought. Whatever other progress I lost I was like oh well but I didn't lose anything and I got back the nook mile points back.

I don't get the mindset for hating people who reset or timetravel, like damn it's their town and their game they paid for let them do what they want lol
You and lots of other people here. The problem comes from the bad people that ruin the the image of the group.

Idk if ive ever heard anyone get mad over resetting besides Resseti

...To turn off the game and lose progress on purpose? In my situation I positioned a ramp, made sure of where I wanted it - then the minute I placed it (before donating any money to its fund) I realised somewhere slightly different would look way better. So turned off the game and lost that positioning of it on purpose.

I guess the only thing I really gained from it was not having to wait an extra day for it to be cancelled and to place it where I now wanted it. But I feel a bit cheaty?? I'm being good in this game, not TT-ing or anything... idk it's just sort of bugging me I guess?
I only did it once when I shook a money tree and because there weren’t enough spaces one of the bags went into the void I felt the game cheated me so I reset.

nah not at all! every player has their own way of playing, there is no right or wrong way

Thank you everyone! I'll admit my real-life OCD is really latching onto this game lately - it LOVES the things I care about - but in a way I'll take this as a good sign as it's something less serious for it to focus on which it generally does when I'm doing well overall. So yay! Haha.

Really appreciate all the responses - due to the reasons mentioned above I'm in a pretty paranoid stage about 'ruining' the game for myself but I think it's worse because a) it's so new, and b) I got the perfect island first time and don't want to risk wanting to reset because i've 'cheated'. Hell, even putting aside the void villager glitch I've even been worried to visit other towns in case they time travel and I accidentally gain benefits from that. That being said I think you're all right, and this being a sandbox game you can't really cheat unless you're exploiting the game to get an unfair advantage to other players. Think I need to chill a bit and accept that for me, in this save game, my only real rule should be no time travel - but not to judge those that do - as has been mentioned we choose how to play :)

i don’t consider it cheating at all, honestly. it’s not something i’ve done but it’s not cheating. anyone who has a problem with it likely reset in new leaf to avoid villagers crushing their hybrids or paths so i don’t wanna hear any complaints about it lmao

I agree with everyone else, definitely not cheating. Things that I consider real cheating = dupe glitch. Thank God they took that out relatively soon in the game. Closing the game to negate progress just means you had second thoughts and wanted to do it differently. I'm sure everyone has done that at some point if they've been playing AC for years. :P

Far from it. It saves you money (no demolishment and rebuilding fees). I just tried building some ramps leading down to my secret beach and when I discovered the game wouldn't let me, I quit and started back up and the incline marker kit was no longer in my pockets (the last autosave was after I gave Blathers a fossil).

And trust me I wish I had done that when I was building a bridge leading to my museum. It's a little off-center and it's bugging me. I'll have to move the Museum once and then back to where it is now the next day just to get the bridge and the entrance to line up. If I ever decide to spend the bells on such a small project lol.

People put way too much stock in whether or not things can be considered cheating in this mostly singleplayer experience. I wouldn't consider anything short of item duplication and generating infinite bells with glitches and/or outright hacking to be cheating, and I only care about either of those things when they can have a potential negative effect on another player, either endangering a save file or ruining the community economy.

Things like time travel and quitting without saving are perfectly fine. It's your game and you resetting to fix placement like this does no harm to anyone. If anyone looks down on you for something like this, I'd say they take themselves too seriously and you shouldn't worry at all about what they think.

Personally, no. We all make mistakes and if there’s a chance to fix them, then do it. It didn’t enhance your gameplay, you didn’t necessarily exploit anything. c:

I will happily admit that I save-scummed to get the 100 fish streak milestone done because I never wanted to deal with it again. it sitting there unfinished would bug me to hell xD let's be real, hardly anyone can get that milestone legitimately.
Whether what I'm doing is considered cheating doesnt matter to me, but for what you're doing, its definitely not cheating, so dont feel bad about it yo! Its 100%, more worth it to save your time than it is to wait an absurd amount of time for a second try over a small mistake or second-guess. Im pretty sure most, if not everyone, here has done something similar to you

I got it like within my first week. Fishing in this game is far easier than New Leaf. The time you have to register reeling the fish in is much longer than in New Leaf especially catching sharks. I find fishing too easy. In New Leaf, you got less than a second, a split second, the moment the shark or fish bite and if you miss the window, well then the fish/shark is gone.

As for OP, I save scum during my campsite visitor. I didn't want Bianca to be kick out so I reset and got Stu who I wanted out badly!

I don't think save scumming is cheating since auto save wasn't in previous AC games.

IMO, no.

Honestly, there should be an option to change the position up to the point where it's fully paid off.

Sometimes you can't even properly see when you're "imagining" it. Before I set up two of my horizontal inclines, I couldn't even see them because of the cliffs blocking the view. Huge oversight not to even give you a top-down view.

Only thing I consider cheating in this game is duplicating items (not sure if you can still do that) but that feels immoral to me lol

Only Resetti would say that it’s cheating. But real people would say that it’s your game, you can do what you want. The autosave feature wasn’t even implemented to prevent people from doing that.

However, ever since autosaves were implemented, I started living like how it’s done in real life. Once I made a screw-up, I must deal with it, unless if it isn’t too late to reset.
