Am the only one who likes updates instead of having everything at once?

I really like having the gradual updates. It means I can get used to certain features and get the overwhelming excitement out of my system before someone even newer and better arrives. This also means I tend to have a few days per month I play incessantly, but after that it’s more relaxed. One thing I do wish Nintendo did was release more teasers about what updates are coming. It’s all well and good that we have dataminers, but hearing straight from the creators that Brewster or veggies are “coming in 2020” or something like that would — in my opinion — help heighten excitement and anticipation even more!

I like the updates because whenever a new update is announced I look forward to when I can play that new update.

I prefer the update model for many of the reasons that have already been stated! It keeps the game feeling new for a longer time, and I think this model in particular really suits AC, as a game that was designed to be "lived" in as much as "played."

I don't really understand the commonly offered criticism of "x content should have been in the game in the first place" because while, sure, much of the content may have been on the cartridge in previous iterations of the game, it was still locked behind game progression or time or some other limitation. IOW, the game has never been busted wide open from the start. I guess it's a matter of perception.

I prefer the updates being released in waves as it gives me something to look forward to. It makes sense in a game like this too. We started on a deserted island and things start to evolve overtime with more characters, shops, items, activities, and places (potentially).

I'm not super bothered by gradually adding content, but I'm not really happy about it either. A great game should have enough things to do in it to keep people playing for a while without needing to artificially extend its lifespan with drip content. BOTW hit the shelves as a complete game (it had a paid DLC package as an add-on, but that wasn't necessary to still get months and 100s of hours of playtime out of it) and it still lasted a long time for me. The developers are basically admitting that people are going to get bored with this game quickly, so they need to throttle content to keep it "fresh". A lot of people are already getting bored with ACNH, and some of them won't pick the game back up even when new content is released. It's understandable if they couldn't include everything at launch due to time constraints, but if that's really the case, then it's worrisome that they're rushing to add this content on the fly when they had 7 years to do so and that may help explain why there are so many glitches in ACNH.

i don't mind the update model, i just think they should include exclusively new content instead of drip-feeding us features from past games that we've already experienced. i've always been of the mind that new entries in a series should build on the last one(s), not regress, but that's probably just me.

No, I enjoy it. I wish there were more main features/items in the base game though.

I enjoy having the community experience new things all at once instead of TTers and dataminers finding out everything within 48 hours of release.

While it doesn't bother me either way, I'd rather have the full game at once. Since now it seems like I'm running out of things to do this way.

Yeah, NH should have everything that NL had, especially item-wise. The content they provide with updates should be new, not returning features

I like the slow roll out of updates, however, I think it'd be beneficial if we got them more often. Even just little updates. But then again, we're in the midst of a global pandemic so ya can't be too picky.

Exactly. I don't think it's an unreasonable expectation for games to improve over time, especially when NL was released 8 years ago. I didn't expect ACNH to have every feature from every past AC game, but it should include the most popular ones. To its credit, ACNH has a number of new features like outdoor furniture and terraforming, but it shouldn't be an either/or thing between that and content from past games. ACNH feels like a lateral move from ACNL; it's different but not necessarily better yet. Let's say most or all of the old content returns sometime in 2021. Then I'll say it's definitely an improvement over ACNL, but I'll judge it as a game released in 2021, not 2020. In 2021, there will be more competition for ACNH as a game and it may not stand up as well against the competition as it would have if all of the old content had been available at launch.

Definitely not! I love the slow roll-out and excitement of content update reveals. That said, I kinda wish there was no time-traveling or North/South hemispheres. Seeing all the off-season stuff I'd like to use but want to get when it's the right time of year tests my resolve and appreciation for the way the game delivers. I want mushroom seasoooooooon!!!

I like the updates, as it gives me something new to look forward to and keeps me interested in the game. I never played any of the previous animal crossing games though. I can imagine if you have and you were expecting certain features from the start, you might be a bit dissapointed.

i suppose it would also be different if they were flat out removing the features and keeping them removed but since they're clearly planning to re-add most (if not all) of the big features from NL, and even games before, those should've just been in the game at launch and the updates reserved for fresh content, y'know? obviously i'm not expecting every little thing to be carried over from game-to-game, especially if it wouldn't make sense, but things like diving + perfect fruit + ordinances + the dream suite etc. that were only just introduced an entry ago should've been present in this one as well.

I definitely agree that it’s something to look forward to. I think the problem now is that the game was released right before a quarantine so Some people have so much Free time to play the game, which can definitely lead to burnout and that’s why I think some people want the full game now. I just hope that the updates are worth it lol. I’m looking forward to being able to go swimming and diving again because it’ll be nice to have more stuff to donate to blathers!

I think its fun, it gives us something to look forward to in real life that we have to wait actual time for and not just time travel. For me, this is really great since I have depression and animal crossing (and the future updates) are one of the few things that actually make me feel excited these days. It has been helping me look forward to these in game events, and subsequently some real-life events around that time too.

I certainly don't mind it as it's completely free. Just wish they release them more often, like make it a monthly thing rather than seasonal. Though, with everyone getting hit with lock down right at release, they possibly wanted to do such but couldn't because of lack of equipment at home. Hopefully they change it to a more frequent schedule once everything is back to normal.

i think updates should be an addition to an already complete game, not just giving us content that was already in the previous games and labelling it as something new. the amiibo update in acnl was great and expanded on different features, while it still feels like we're waiting to unlock the base game in acnh. idk, just my thoughts
