Am the only one who likes updates instead of having everything at once?

Initially, I wasn't too happy about this approach. But taking Animal Crossing's game design into consideration, I actually think this approach works.

Sure, not everyone will play this game for a whole year and many people want to experience everything that game has to offer at once. But this game was meant to be played for long periods of time. And based on what we've seen, the monthly updates keeps the game alive.

I like the updates because everyone gets to (more or less) experience new stuff together! I've gotten impatient and TT'ed quite a bit, but even then, there's still going to be lots og things to look forward to that I can't spoil for myself.

I'm sure you're not alone, but I would had preferred the new content to be stuff that didn't already exist from day 1 elsewhere. On top of that, they changed a lot that I used to like in the previous games, gutted furniture, samey hourly music (except the opening theme), unnecessarily long dialogue from npc (looking at you Oriville and Isabelle) somehow managed to make villagers even more bland that I don't even talk to them now, and forgettable events. Like I loved the way the original tournaments were. And now it all feels like they tried too hard to imitate a grindy mobile game with these events that drag on for days/weeks/months or are super grindy.

Had it just been content that was slowly brought back and not all of the above, I wouldn't mind the wait. They could had slowly brought back or added different furniture pieces into Nook's shop every week or so. Like one piece or something. Because right now I am sorely disappointed at the lack of choices. Or you know mixed it up with old content and new.

I feel like many who are fine with this are also first time AC players so they don't really know what Nintendo gave us before and are giving us now. For full price. Like what is going to happen many years down the road when the Switch is well beyond it's life? Will they keep NH floating around in the internet to purchase the full content download or will they just hit the kill switch and people can than only buy the incomplete physical copy?

Well, I don't like it. Honestly it feels like a half-finished still because they have to push things this way instead. People will always TT back and forth and this waiting makes me burned out if something because there's not so much you can do after a while.

I guess I like the updates. I haven’t played any other version of animal crossing, and don’t really understand the whole idea ‘it was in the game before it shouldn’t be an update’ thing, and obviously don’t have any old content I am missing in this game. I am surprised how many people are bored with the game already, and it makes me kind of sad. I mean, it’s not exactly a fast paced game, I know, but I feel I always have things to do. Having updates come gradually has given me a chance to get used to how all the existing game mechanics work. I think if there was too much from the beginning it would have been overwhelming to fit everything into a day. Now I get to enjoy something like diving as a new focus for a while, and focus on catching new stuff etc there. Not sure if any of that makes sense, but I guess bottom line is the game as is was great, I didn’t know there was anything missing, and now getting these updates is just such a treat!

I think there's a good chance that more people will appreciate it a couple years down the line when they realize that the game is still very much part of the conversation because of the support it will have gotten, which hopefully will indeed add lots of new elements and not just bring everything back from New Leaf.

I totally agree with you, but imagine what would have happened if we had at least the old main features back and still have regular updates for two years or so with new stuff. Or really old stuff returning as new stuff. That would have made for an even more fantastic conversation now.

I can't wait to see how different this game will be by the time the first year anniversary rolls around! The new player experience will be very, very different by then.

Yeah I feel like they should try to find ways to implement new and old stuff together slowly. Than it would had been the best of both worlds.

Also someone mentioned that data-miners have found a leak that was potentially a kill code for previous events (like Bunny Day, Wedding Day, ect for 2020) so that would mean when we get to this data leak update there's a possibility past events won't be accessible anymore. So like the event, furniture, and DIY would be gone unless Nintendo brought them back somewhere else.

I really enjoy hearing from brand new players. I do hear the "it would have been overwhelming" a lot and I do wonder why this is a common thought. In the past games, you still had to unlock everything and it wasn't all just handed to you right away. It was more like unlocking the Nook Shopping app on your phone or spending enough at Mable's stand for her to say that she wants to open up a shop.

For instance, to unlock the island in NL, you had to pay off your first house debt to Tom Nook (according to Nookipedia because even my memory isn't that good). The next day you will unlock it. To upgrade Timmy and Tommy's shop the first time all you have to do was spend 10,000 bells at the store, have it be 10 days since the last upgrade, and have paid off your initial mortgage. No waiting for an update. It was literally just player dependent on how you played the game.

Even the final upgrade for the Nook shop was that you needed to do Gracie's fashion check 3 times and she didn't show up every day. It was random and there could be long stretches. Yeah you could cheat the system by TT on the day Gracie showed up by going back the previous day, but the same could be said about Mabel in NH.

People are going to TT regardless. But I liked the idea of working to get to a certain goal. It has more of a rewarding feeling to know you got there because of your hard work instead of just waiting for it to happen.

I think the only reason I would have preferred it all to be included from the start is the feeling that you kind of progress and then stop... And then progress a bit more and then stop... Every update feels like I'm not progressing my island, just that I'm taking part in a limited event. Even if it's upgrading the museum or something, it doesn't really feel like I achieved it because it's the only thing I need to do.

That said, it's not a big complaint from me, it's nice to have something to look forward to.
