Reading about doing this and sounds like I need to make separate profiles on the Switch itself to do this? If I'm correct, how intrusive is this when using the Switch itself eg for other games? Obviously in older version of AC, the characters remained within the game itself but sounds like it's different now? Do people still do this, even meaning creating separate Switch profiles? Would love to know what others think/do here - please and thanks in advance! :)

So, I made a different profile in order to have a tent in my campsite. I don't use the character at all and honestly, it's not intrusive at all, imo.

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but are the other characters visible when playing the main character, like do they stand in front of their house or something?

I literally just started doing this today. I had to create another account but so far as I can see, you can't see the avatars of other accounts whilst you're playing, just their houses. I'm using a second account (eg resource centre, restaurant, spa etc) to build and expand houses, but I'm using my main account to collect the bells for it and then just jump the bells outside of the resource centre/restaurant/spa etc for my second account to collect and use.

Oh ok, I would have loved it if the avatars of the other accounts would be visible like in new leaf when you visited other people's dreams.

Thanks all! So am I right inn thinking creating a separate Switch profile is the only way to do this? Cheers :)

Nope! Not at all. They're not in the game at all when playing your main character. Their homes will be empty as well (just their furniture, not them).

It isn't very intrusive! I did the same thing (i wanted a boba shop and ramen shop on my island hehe) and the only thing that's really "intrusive" if at all is the villagers mentioning that character in conversation ^^ and yes you are right in thinking you have to make another user account! That's the only way to get another playable character on the island! Best of luck to you!! :D

Am I right in thinking that for your side profiles to be able to download designs and so on you'd need to buy an extra nintendo online subscription, or is it all covered under one?

I'd like to be able to put up some custom designs in a side character's house that I've made on photoshop, but if you have to pay extra to do that I suppose I'll have to sit and recreate them by hand :P

every character-player shares the same storage of designs, so you can access everyone's designs on different accs ^^ that being said you can just download the code on your main and access it on the side profile. ^o^
