TBT's Thirteenth Annual Easter Egg Hunt (Answers Posted!)

that sure was An Event
rrrreally didn’t like this one. hated it, even. i felt excluded because everyone else seems to get the hints and buy eggs but i didn’t understand any of the hints at all
This is one of the more challenging events impo. I've been round for a few years and I don't get all the eggs and I don't expect to find them all. However, with time spent on the forums, I bet you'll get some of the hints next year when the egg hunt comes back.
There will be more events through the year that should be easier to hop into. 🥰 I hope to see you there. Last year we had a mushroom event that was fun. But you can also search for event posts at the top of the page in the search bar with a key word and check out what some of the past events were like. Or just browse the bulletin board section.

I feel like there should be some kind of a heads up, for lack of a better word, when staff announces this event that it's more geared towards veteran members. Because really it is. In the same sense that team events require a lot of participation and dedication.

I don't think a lot of members get that. Or if they do they're really quiet about it. The new ones not realizing what they're getting into and regulars being so into events it's just a Tuesday to them. I know I've discussed this in private with others who expressed negatively how they didn't realize what they were getting into and if they had known they probably wouldn't had joined. I know a lot of members who took hiatuses after Space camp, myself included. 3 weeks of constant effort is a lot of time to dedicate. Especially if someone has a job, family, life responsibilities ect.

I feel like if team events aren't going to be tweaked and remain the same some kind of notification should be given as well.

I think another factor is a lot of casual users might not care about stuff like events and/or just don’t post. I use a few other forums mostly just to get news, and I never participate in anything, lol. I post like once a year to get access to info that’s only available to people who post in a certain thread. 😆

Yeah a notice of some sort would be nice, but I think group events should have a different kind of notice if notices are gonna be a thing because, at least I think, it is easier for non veteran members to hop into a group event than this egg event, while members who don't have a lot of time may have a hard time hopping into a group event even though they may be a veteran member or a new member.
But I think trying to make it easier to integrate new members in to the egg hunt and members who aren't on the forums as is good thing to try, with the switch 2 causing new member upticks and eventually a new AC game being announced and all.
(and no one is obligated to agree with anything I said.)
But yeah, this notice/warning idea you have may be something good to send to the staff if you want if you feel like they may not see it here.
I think I remember one or two of the first egg hunts of the time I first joined the forum had a comment somewhere about how the egg hunts are more for members who have been around a while, among some other stuff on why collaboration wasn't allowed at that time.

(But yeah, I'm not gonna respond to any more tags in this thread because I don't want it falling into whatever that was in the OFT here, since it crosses topics. 👍)

I think it's my 10th egg hunt, the first year I got 6 eggs, and yes, it was a lot harder then but we had a lot of fun too. We were all struggling together while just a tiny bunch got all the eggs  It was really competitive. I think most of us didn't expect to get all the eggs and were fine with that. (less collectibles to buy too). I miss that time, not because it was hard (although I liked a bit of challenge too) but because there were way more activities on the thread too. I thought it was a bit too quiet this year. It was like everybody was chatting elsewhere or was already done. Or just less participants? 😕
I wouldn't think the hunt is for veterans, depending of what a veteran is, but it's like a recap of the past year, so yes, if you have been active on the forum in the past year, it will be easier to get the hints, and yes, if you are a veteran, you will know what to expect unlike someone who just joined the site. Since the "We will not "disqualify" participants who privately work together "has been understood as "you are now free to work in teams" that hunt took a strange turn. I also agree that if the only ones struggling alone are the newbies and introverts, that's not fair. I get it's more frustrating to see the majority getting all the eggs while they are not finding any. It's not like 10 years ago when most of us were not getting all of them.

I'm sorry, I don't really have a suggestion. It's still fun for me, even if I stay stuck with the same hint for 3 days haha! It can get really intense. I always need extra caffeine and chocolate to keep up.
and I must confess it's not my only hunt ....

Thanks for organizing that hunt and for the pretty collectibles. Really hard to choose. Congrats to the winners, very beautiful eggs, it was fun to see everybody's ideas and I hope more of them will be released later.

I'm laughing at that statement- yeah it really is just another Tuesday to them

But yes, I agree with -Blue-, it definitely is an event geared towards veteran/active members.
This was my 2nd Egg hunt and it definitely was a lot easier than my first. It baffled me when I first tried it last year- I didn't realize what the hell I was getting into. (Especially since I wasn't really active in places where the eggs were in anyways- I mainly hung around the ACNH trading boards/ AC Amiibos Trading Boards. I did participate in the ACNL:Farewell event so I did get one of the clues that related to one of the items that was released during the event.

And *how* to look for stuff? And what to even look for? I remember being frustrated not knowing what the eggs you have to look for looked like. After I got two eggs, I got the hang of it but realized that maybe the egg hunts are really.. not for me. I say this but I get pretty into them cause I like looking for stuff. It definitely is harder when the clues are referencing past events that I don't know of.
They are quite fun though and I appreciate the work that goes into them. Each event that feels like this (mirrors.. pin the tail on marina.......) makes me realize how insane the staff and members are on this site. It's quite nice to see.

Anyways, thanks for the 2nd egg hunt! It was easier since I feel like some of the clues were easier to find this year! Most of them felt like recent-ish threads! Although I wonder if I feel like that cause of this new feature though?

I got some of the clues thanks to this. Prior to the egg hunt, I always just clicked on the threads here and I remembered the "How old were you when you first played AC" thread hahaha

I have been logging into the forum on a weekly basis to see if there are events, so oftentimes I am lurking around the forum.

Even though I've only actively participated since 2019, there are events that I didn't even remember at all doing. The question about the Taskmaster hint from the staff was completely over my head as there was an image of Alex/Greg but in Animal Crossing.

I am glad that we are allowed to work in the background with other members. It made it more fun for all of us to be discussing and grouping our efforts for them. I remember when I first started the egg hunt, I was so frustrated trying to look for eggs on my own since we weren't allowed to work together AND I had no idea what the eggs looked like.

I think there should be a picture of an egg in the egg hunt for new members of "This is what an egg looks like" It might be helpful. Now that I am a veteran, I know what the eggs look like, but maybe not for the newbies.

Apparently, in earlier egg hunts, the search bar was disabled?! How the heck did past members even find anything at that point? I remember in a past egg hunt, there was a question about vitamins and I was only able to find it because I searched up "vitamin". How did past members even do egg hunts then?

I agree a pic of the egg we are searching for would definitely help newer members. I also agree this egg hunt would have been impossible if we hadn’t been allowed to problem solve with others. I actually find it is a good way for me to connect and make forum friends during this type of event. So I personally love being able to collaborate!
So far as the search bar, I used it extensively in this event but I will tell you I must suck at knowing the proper search terms. I tried so many times and more often than not it did not help me at all. And I think with my add as well as some other memory impacting issues, I can’t even remember anything about events I actually participated in! I participated in space camp in 2023 and I loved it. So even though I had somewhat of an idea of what a particular riddle was referring to, I couldn’t put in a search term that came up with anything! I would often get a nothing found response in the search bar. That was pretty exasperating, lol. Honestly for me….and i recognize I am an outlier..I could be a member on the forum for 10 years with reasonable participation and I would still really struggle with the riddles. Some are just too hard, even if I would have known the answer if it had been put in simpler terms. I have a dodo brain, lol!

Do we know yet when the shop closes?
Seconding this questions, does anyone know when the shop closes for the eggs?

I want to make sure to get my last egg before the shop closes.
idk anymore. if all future events are like this i will stop participating in them entirely
Only the egg hunts are like this. In other events, there are sometimes where you are group into teams and it is a team effort trying to reach a common goal. In some other events, there are things you can do on your own (like doing a scavenger hunt by taking photos of an object they ask). Events vary, but for a first time event that you participated in, egg hunts are not a good representation.

when staff announces this event that it's more geared towards veteran members

I'd like to push back on this a little bit.

the first egg hunt I participated in was the 2015 one, over a year after being active, and it was still insanely hard for me at the time

getting your teeth kicked in by zipper for your first time is honestly probably far more of a norm than an exception, regardless of prior time spent on the forums

by going through literal whole pages of threads from the past year and some in the indexes, and checking any thread that possibly even remotely worked for the clue (or literally any thread when brute forcing it)

I like to think I’m a frequent visitor of the forums now, and I still struggle with the egg hunts. I don’t put as much effort into this particular event which likely contributes to that, but riddles aren’t my forte either way.

This is the one event I participate very little. I’ll literally only do the riddles I feel very confident in. This time around, I ended up with enough currency to purchase a few lower priced eggs and I’m satisfied either with that. I’d just hate to torture my brain in an event rewarding currency for collectibles I’m not all that interested in when all I plan to do is give my winnings away.

I don’t think newer members should feel bad about being confused about egg hunts. I’ve participated in 9 of them and there are still plenty of clues that completely elude me. My first was definitely the worst, and it made me feel completely useless when I only found about 3. I’ve gotten better with time, and it definitely helps that you can get hints from other members now. The point I’m trying to make is I wouldn’t give up on events or even egg hunts just because my first one was confusing.

Personally I used to try my luck on Google lol - so in the example you gave I've would've gone to Google and typed "Bell Tree Forums Vitamin" 🤭 (it def did not work the majority of the time but a few times it did)

Yes, I remember past egg hunts being a lot harder than it is today without the search bar. But even then, when I was completely new to the egg hunts I still held out strong as I found about a middle average of eggs, I'd say approximately 10-17 eggs total every year before we could privately share hints to eggs we are ineligible to find by ourselves.

While doing it back then with no help by the search bar and others was very difficult, it made finding eggs much more rewarding than when someone gave you hints on them.
But perhaps the backlash of most users finding egg hunting being very hard, changes had to be made.

Apparently, in earlier egg hunts, the search bar was disabled?! How the heck did past members even find anything at that point?

YES! Disabled and I think we had to use math at some point. It was hard but people still found them, just not all, like 5-15 eggs, and it was still the favorite event of many. Maybe because there were more veterans, I don't know. My first hunt was also in 2015, I was a new member of 2-3 months then. Just got enough for a Waluigi egg. That egg is my precious! I worked so hard for it. Still super proud of that achievement.

There are all kind of events, we don't have to participate in all, like I don't participate in the championships, I don't have the games and even if I had them, I think it would be too stressful for me. Some need more challenging events, some like more artistic events, or mini events that don't need much time. There is something for everybody.

Oh! That sounds like torture :D
