Your thoughts on social justice and other American cultural issues?

I'd recommend to the OP that you get off the internet, go out into the world and actually meet people that are from more historically disadvantaged groups than you. It really only takes a minimal amount of life experience to realize that all of us have an obligation to rally behind people who have gotten **** on all of their life just because of the circumstances of their birth.

While I think it's great that people want to rally behind others, I disagree that anyone has an obligation to. We're still animals at heart after all, and the world is survival of the fittest. It's a great mindset to help the disadvantaged, but when we treat it like an obligation it really takes away from the spirit of the whole idea IMO.

my thoughts on social justice?

recently we've been having minorities voices their problems (via tumblr, twitter, social media) so of course, there is a lot of information, coming from the voices of these minorities.

now there are people on the outside, who have no foundation or deep understanding of the experiences of a minority. so when they look at all these people stating the problem. they look at themselves and say. "that's not true, this isn't happening to you guys. because it isn't happening to me." especially when the perpetrator of the problem is their people, then they want to counter attack and victimize themselves, because they don't want to be looked at as the offender. and solely focus on what wrong doing has been done to them and want it to be amplified into a big deal, although incredibly little compared to the rest.

and of course there are the select few who are driven by the voices of minorities, yet still don't have the foundation, but want to join the bandwagon. they want to talk about the problem but don't have the information about it or has gotten half of the problem down wrong. these are people who want to complain about the problem, but refuse to do their research on it.

the problem is. people don't want to learn. they don't want to do research, they don't collect information. they refuse to look at a problem from an unbiased view and think for themselves.

yet these same people want to put an uneducated opinion out there based off their guilt/pride/ego with no empathy or understanding or care or even a thought on why these people are so upset.

I just want to know what gender neutral pronouns you would use in a Romance language, like Spanish.

Hello! There are two ways of using gender neutral pronouns in spanish: le/les or lx/lxs, and when an adjective or noun has a gender and you want to put it in neutral form, just replace the gender vowel with the e if you're using le/les or with the x if you're using lx/lxs.

For example: Las chicas son guapas would be ''les chiques (because writing chices wouldn't be understandable) son guapes'' or ''lxs chicxs son guapxs''.

How would you pronounce the x? I feel like that only works in writing. And le and les doesn't work with people. Chicle is gum. The word for man is completely different than the word for woman in Spanish, so le and X don't work there, either.

I see you explained it would be chicques. Still confused how chicx is pronounced, or how you would removed gender from mujer or hombre.

Calling someone the n word doesn't lead to their death or discrimination -___- it's just a word, which originally just meant someone that couldn't legally own land. Calling someone cracker is equally as offensive. I'm white, and I had no part in slavery (and neither did most Americans in that time period; 6% of white Americans owned slaves at the peak of slavery's existence). Why should me being compared to a real racist that oppressed and abused people for their own gain be considered less of an insult than the n word?

It's not censored because it's also a kind of food.

ofc you dont literally murder a black person by calling them the n-slur but you contribute to the oppression and hatred of black people. there is no oppression and hatred of white people.

Social justice is not inherently a bad thing, our society is still pretty backwards in a lot of ways like... It's 2016 and yet people still treat others differently based on their gender identity, sexuality, race, the list goes on and on. I agree - social justice can go to an extreme but that's like ANYTHING really. Not all social justice is bad.

Social justice is not really infringing upon anyone's free speech. If you're saying something that's sexist or racist or homophobic or anything like that then I don't see why anyone should respect what you have to say. You're disrespecting other people over something they most likely cannot control or over something that is a part of their identity and is not harming you or anyone else. So likewise people should be able to disrespect you and your ****ty opinion. It's that simple. I mean it's 2016 for gods sake, I thought we would all be over this prejudice thing by now?? Dividing society up like this only breeds more hatred. Okay, you can be entitled to your own opinion. You could support Donald Trump for all I care and that's fine by me, even if I don't agree with him. But if you're disrespecting others by being racist, for example, then I don't see why others should respect what you have to say?

Just curious, but is Asian oppression prevalent? They probably get called chinks (even though there are other Asian countries besides China), which is similar to the N-word for blacks I think. I'm not sure if the oppression is just being ignored (unlike black oppression which is publicized everywhere) or that it doesn't exist.

I'm Filipino (though people say I look Chinese/Japanese/Vietnamese), and I don't feel that oppressed, which in part might be because I'm socially awkward and don't talk to a lot of people in order for them to offend me, but I don't know about everyone else.

there were a lot of anti-asian movements and laws that were passed by white supremacists. there is a lot of it that i could tell you about but im sure maybe you might just want some examples of it.

white supremacists founded an Asiatic Exclusion League that aimed for prevention of asian immigrants into america originally aimed to japanese and koreans. calling it "a white man's country" they also had a Anti-Jap Laundry League that was created to harass japanese laundry owners. white supremacists would also pass laws to prevent japanese to owning any property.
they have a racist slur for the japanese the white people would call them Japs. in WW2 america evicted hundreds of thousands of japanese people (majority of them US citizens) from their homes and put them in concentration camps. there's a memorial monument in Manzanar.

they had the chinese build the transcontinental railroad, but paid them little to none compared the white workers. it was technically slave labor, and during the gold mine rush they were considered disposable and were the first to be sent down to blow up the mines. they cut the fuse of the bombs short before handing it to the chinese to light before they were lowered down so it was a suicide mission since the chinese had little to no chances of escaping when lighting the short fuse.

so uhh this is all i can remember off the top of my head in the books and documentaries. there is a lot more that has been done to asians like laws and stuff to koreans/vietnamese/any poc. i know your just curious, so to answer your question. yes.

White privilege is real because one time i was hatecrimed against and got my eyes almost stapled open so i could have non chink eyes, and the white girl got away free...

Also white people literally killed my family (vietnam war) and gave us birth defects while making movies about how killing my people made them SOO sad :(

oh right i was gonna write something about the whole "triggered !!!!11" thing from a few pages back or something hhheh

honestly, idc what people think about Triggered 14 Year Old Tumblr Sjws , but making fun of triggers is really ableist and not ok tbh........,. like, ok a person you think is lame or overdramatic wants 50 things tagged because it triggers them. stop interacting with them if you think it's lame, but don't make fun of it bc guess What triggers can be the silliest things :^) and no one is required to tell you exactly why they are triggered by a certain thing, you should just respect their triggers and b chill.
like w/e you think it's funny that ppl get triggered by "weird" **** but ppl seem to fail to realize that trauma n abuse can make the simplest things a trigger that makes a mentally ill trauma/abuse survivor have a panic attack or something .

^^^ I won't go into details on here but I knew a girl who would have severe flashbacks and panic attacks if she saw anything related to Magic The Gathering. Just because a trigger seems "stupid" to you doesn't mean it's invalid or "fake". You don't know the story behind said triggers and you aren't entitled to knowing. Just respect them and if you can't, don't interact with that person and move on.

Thank you! I was just wondering why we don't hear a lot about asians in relation to oppression/discrimination on public media today such as the television or internet compared to other races. I know they teach us about Japanese Internment camps in WWII and slave labor (though I think all races including white were used as slaves at some point) at school. I wanted to know how they felt currently with all the changes since then.

I don't even understand this thread, but it looks like a very complicated discussion, very confused :3

Well I mean people might have a reason for it

if you're talking about reasons like "im gonna send him hate letters because he cheated on me with my best friend" that doenst really belong in this thread since that's a personal issue n not a social issue

but if you're talking about reasons like "um i actually treat black ppl like crap because ___" thne that's just bull**** and racist
but idk

No I'm not talking about being racist which I never even mentioned in my post I just didn't understand it, I mean I was talking about the first reason that you said, and I'm not sure how it doesn't belong in this thread?
