I never say either. I say "loooool". It's pronounced "lewl" and signifies derisive laughter.

Usually if I say it, I at least something's funny. But I do often have a straight face.
If I use it when I'm saying something, it's usually more like "jk."

But if I make the XD have a lot of mouths, or throw a lot of l's in's lol, I'm probably laughing out loud. (Which is obnoxious, but true.)
