What part of the Nintendo Switch do you find to be the most disappointing?

I miss the themes! I always had the spring time animal crossing theme on my 3DS and I miss how cute it was

definitely agree with folks on the ergonomics of the device and the terrible longevity of something as crucial as a controller. i don't have a switch lite but i can't imagine how bummed i would be if i had joycon drift w/ a controller that was attached to the device. i was glad i could send my joycons in to be fixed for free back in the day (dunno if they're still doing that?) but i did end up mostly using a pro controller. which, coincidentally, cannot consistently connect to my PC so it is only functional for my switch.

the overall aesthetic and charm of the UI is a bummer. it'd be nice to see more customization for the little things like themes, icons. basically anything proprietary is the opposite of a joy to interact with and like, it doesn't have to be, but... it certainly stands out when i think of other console interfaces. even if it's kind of clunky and slow at least be cute, dude.

My number one enemy are the joycons. They get wrecked by me a lot and I am tired of replacing them. My previous Switch had the drift and I am afraid my newer one will get it considering all of the use that it gets.

I think for me, I just struggle to be terribly drawn to a lot of the game offerings. Sometimes it's hard to pinpoint exactly why, other times I just find that Switch-era entries to series I typically enjoy have enough issues that I've found myself preferring older entries, or even entirely skipping games. These days, the only thing I really play on my Switch is Splatoon 3, which honestly also has a lot of design decisions that annoy me. Could just be a mix of nostalgia for older games mixed with disliking a lot of things about modern gaming in general that leaves me being harder to please.

With Splatoon being one of the only things I play on the Switch, that also leads me to another gripe I have: the online service. It really doesn't feel like I'm paying for any reason beyond "I guess this is just online console gaming now". I'm lucky enough to have decent enough internet that I usually don't get disconnected during games, but people disconnect from my Splatoon matches all the time, and I've noticed some really blatant lag turn the tide of battles which just makes the game a lot less fun. Not to mention, the cloud save backups are supposed to be a draw of the online service, and yet every game I particularly care about preserving my data in is exempt from this service.

It lacks a good boot up screen and the UI is just so bland.

I love my switch and all the unique games it offers, but I have to agree with several points others have made so far. The main 2 things for me being network issues and general performance issues. As mentioned recently, splatoon 3 has always had problems with random disconnects, and that can feel especially frustrating since since it takes way too long to start a match. It seems like online connection related stuff in general takes a really long time, often with some extra steps in addition to waiting. Meanwhile on most multiplayer steam games you can quickly and easily jump into a game with someone so I'm not sure why it can't be like that. Also lag while playing certain games offline including acnh, pokemon (especially sv), loz; being some of the main popular games I'm surprised they're not optimized for better performance. Even the eshop is very laggy for some reason.

Syncing up the pro controller, especially if you have more than one Switch. It's a very small button that, to me, seems to only work if you press down on it really, really hard. And even then it sometimes takes a long time for the Switch to find the pro controller. The button is located in an awkward spot, too.

I own two Switches, so it tends to be a real pain when you have just one pro controller to work with. It's easier pairing up Wiimotes. The button isn't as small, and the Wii finds it right away. At least in my experience.

And of course, the drift.

I would say the amount of games. I found that I had heaps of games available for 3DS but there is barely multiple that I like on the switch which is a shame.

EASILY the lack of themes. I miss even the bare minimum of choosing a theme colour other than black or white. That aside I also miss the camera. Growing up even with a mobile phone down the line, my DSi and 3DS were the main sources of pictures and selfies I took

Achievements would make me want to play my Switch much more often. Unlikely but, it would be nice if Nintendo adds some themes and other things we want in a later update at some point.

The drift I’ve always feared the horror stories of the joycon drift and I’m so lucky my first pair of joycons lasted about 3 and a half years. When the right joycon started drifting I was praying it was just an in-game thing, but it just became worse overtime to the point where I couldn’t properly navigate the menu or play Splatoon lol. I’m annoyed that my country doesn’t have a Nintendo center so there’s no way I could sent it for free repair/replacement like others can, so I had to opt for a third-party repair. It was cheap but unfortunately it lasted only 3 months before I started noticing it drift again, and at that point I was just forced to buy a new one. On the bright side it’s only the right joycon I had to replace, and the left one still works fine. Still, joycons are so so expensive, cuz wdym it costs almost as much as a regular Switch cartridge?

I'm a bit disappointed with the lack of UI customization that the switch had. I was surprised when I bought it to see that they had removed background themes. I know it's something super minor, but for someone who often takes a while to choose what to play it was nice to at least stare at something cool instead of a monocolored background

joycon flimsyness, switch 2 looks like they solved the rail problem. I wish they didnt feel like toys and felt sturdy.

I know this is an old post, but I always sync mine up with the usb cable. I get that it's not as convenient, but as soon as I plug the pro controller into the usb cable that's hooked to the Switch it syncs up right away. Figured I'd share that if it helps?

I was aware, yeah, but most of the time, I am just too gosh darn lazy to grab the usb cable from my drawer every time (it's cluttered with other cables, too)

I just wish that teeny tiny sync button wasn't so teeny tiny

I get it! I have 2 pro controllers. And when one runs out of battery I just swap them in the cable hooked to the switch
