What if Future Updates Will Make NMT Untradeable?

Reading all of these comments against trading/NMT makes me visualize all of you as the get off my lawn grandpa. Trading is fun and it’s a way to acquire items that are hard to get. If people enjoy it and you don’t, just don’t partake. Move along.

What’s wrong with people trading NMTs?

Nobody really said it was, but there's multiple, valid views towards Nook Miles Tickets.
Nook Miles Tickets can generally require a bit of grinding, and therefore time invested, for people who are unable to trade or buy them in bulk.
While trading can result in items being bought for millions of bells, bells are relatively easy to earn, and therefore, more accessible, thanks to turnips. There's no real way to easily earn Nook Miles to purchase tickets.

In this way, a part of the market becomes inaccessible to new players/players who don't have the time to grind for Nook Miles/players who can't trade for Nook Miles. And that can limit some opportunities. They can't compete against others in auctions or to buy their favourite villager. Sure, people are kind enough to not ask for entry fees for things and give villagers away for free or whatnot, but sometimes these posts can be hard to come by, especially in communities in which a good proportion of people require entry fees some people can't access.

At the same time, Nook Miles Tickets are valid for certain things. The effort you would need to breed blue roses? I'd argue it's worth a Nook Mile Ticker or two. The big Robot Hero? Those rusted parts must've taken forever to collect, sure an NMT is a fair trade.

The market is wide but it just feels as if Nook Miles Tickets divide customers: those who use them to survive in the economy (because there will always be people offering services for NMTs) and those who can't access large amounts

It wouldn't personally effect the way I play my game. I rarely buy things from other people anyways. I could see how others would be absolutely upset by that, however. But I think such an update would be done with the intent to try to make things more fair for everyone, and sometimes a little sacrifice is necessary to make a bigger improvement

What about people like me who never dupped NMTs and only have one or two NMTs? I feel like I am already unable to do trades and whatnot being as I lack the vast numbers of NMTs that a lot of people tend to have (because those people dup...)
I don't think it's fair to generalise people who have a lot of NMTs as people who dupe. It's incredibly easy to earn a large number of NMTs from charging for turnips, hybrids, villagers crafting recipes, etc.
If you feel like you are unable to partake in trades because you're never duped and only have 1 or 2 NMTs, perhaps start including them as a form of payment in your trades.

That's their problem, then. The existence of a "trading market" was never intended by the devs, it's been like this since the beginning. A portion of the community decided to capitalize on items and other things and create a market around that. Let they figure out a way to find a solution for a problem they created.
The fact that flowers, item colours, and fruits are locked to your island makes me think that the devs very well anticipated a trading market. Trading was also huge in New Leaf so there's no way they didn't see it coming.

Except people can enjoy trading, even they just don't like the NMT aspect. Sure, they can wait for a better deal, but they're also allowed to feel a bit :/ that they can't enjoy trading, or even playing the game they'd like to.

I never do trades, and I never want to scam people out of 40 NMTs for a single item I'd just feel bad. So I am sorry, but I am unable to do it without cheating the system.

Fair enough.

Trading in the same sense they always intended to work: without applying monetary value.

AC always was about trading things to help others players and share things. They never intended to create a market where players would sell items for bells, turn specific items into currency, selling villagers and stuff like that.

It's been like this since Doubutsu no Mori on the N64. The methods to trade were clunkier due to the technology available at the time, but it was always intended to work as a sharing experience where people would help each other for the greater good, not for profit.

The concept of adding capitalism to the game only came when WW became really popular worldwide, and the culture to apply monetary values to everything found the AC community, and since then, we have this thing.

I haven't duped or time travelled and I find myself with 175,000+ miles - if you have the time to grind things out and the patience to save, NMTs are not as hard to acquire as you might think. In addition, to my knowledge, the newest duplication method does not work on NMT either so whatever duplicated items are out there should be from the first duplication glitch. Another effective way to gain NMT is by asking for them in trades or by asking for them as a preferred tip/form of payment should you choose to open your island to others. If you have Celeste for example, plenty of people will pay 1 NMT to get a recipe from her. Over time, that can add up!

I will say though, the big prices you hear for certain items/villagers like Raymond really do seem to be limited to those uber-popular items. Especially here, you can find plenty of trades that do 1 item for 1 NMT, or even multiples! Also, prices fluctuate heavily between communities and people - the main AC:NH discord tends to see the highest prices, in my experience. Sometimes, it's just a matter of doing the work to find a site or trader that has the most desirable price for you. There are plenty of people who still prefer IGB or items in return for theirs, so it's not as if NMT is the only option out there. I love trading/buying here and I've never used NMT yet! I only trade items or TBT (the currency).

It is unfortunate that the use of NMT does lock some people such as yourself out of the trading market, but I'd argue that even if we only had bells to trade with, inequality will always be present in the trading market. Some people have more time than others to play. Some people unfortunately dupe. Some people value items at a higher price than others, some people are willing to pay that higher price.

I think you may be thinking of the top-tier villager trades. I've traded here a lot for DIYs and items and have never paid more than 5 NMT for a single item as far as I can remember. Its a great way to get items you can't access in your game, without spending bells that you might want to save for shopping or layout changes

I personally think a rework of how NMT's and/or mystery islands-villager system work would incentivize people to use the tickets rather than as a currency. Imagine if random villagers still appear after you are at your 10 villager capacity. It seems like Nintendo wants people to cycle out villagers so what better way than to give them more avenues to do so, rather than the once in a blue moon villager appearing in your campsite (encouraging time traveling) or buying Amiibo cards (encouraging buying from eBay/pirating). People will get on the game, grind out miles per day with the chance or hope they'll get a villager they want.

One of the reasons why NMT's are valuable now is because once you have enough resources and not able to move a villager out, you really have no use for it, so what's the next best thing? Use it as a form of currency to trade for something you're missing. If more people have more opportunities to get the villagers they want, the need to trade tens or hundreds of NMT's for a single villager will start to drop.

I don't really mind making NMT non transferrable so I can use them for island hopping. But if that's the case, I'd probably have to buy stalks a lot more often which I shudder at.

well i like island hopping so i wouldn’t mind lmao. and that would definitely change the stalk market a lot ;u;

I give out NMTs as tips rather than a form of currency so it kinda affects how I will tip people in the future. I mostly use them for item hopping or getting resources. With that said...

This might actually happen soon though because now there is another duplication glitch that was discovered and it can allow any items to be duplicated (that includes NMTs)......

I would prefer it, since I don't have a huge stockpile of NMT and would rather be making purchases with TBT or IGB like I did in New Leaf. That said, I don't believe that such a change will be forthcoming.

I do think grinding for NMTs is pretty inaccessible if you don't have hours to play the game, especially in normal times. I've never made it past 30,000 in nook miles simply because I trade a lot in NMT and don't hoard my miles. If the game suddenly stopped allowing NMT to be transferable, the current game economy would definitely crash but I think the inflation would just shift to bells (or TBT here).

Also I don't think NMT was made to be used as an alternate form of currency?? It just kinda happened within the community

It wouldn't affect me much but I know a lot of people prefer trading with it. I personally prefer TBT and bells, but I don't mind using it if that's all someone wants for their items!
