Tier 1:
Taking out the trash is the best chore of all. I get to go outside for a moment, it gives a mood boost to the entire household, other people seem to feel very grateful/excited that the trash is gone and replaced with a new bag, and the whole thing takes about one minute total.
Runner up is snow shoveling. It feels so cool to heave piles of snow off the driveway or sidewalk, like I should be chanting some kind of laborer song and rejoicing in our bounty.
Tier 2:
I actually don't mind laundry at all. I mean, it's a little tedious to fold, but it feels very clean and organized to go through the whole process, and I get a rush of self-sufficiency when I've put the laundry away. It's like "Here I am, keeping myself alive--washing my clothes, drying them, folding them, putting them away to use again. It's the ciiiiiiircle of liiiiiife..."
We have a dog that sheds a LOT so one household chore (typically done by me) is raking the carpet with a special rubbery rake-brush, which sounds very silly, but it gathers massive amounts of hair (mostly dog, but also my partner who has long hair, and our roommate who also has long hair) and prevents it from being stuck in the vacuum cleaner and damaging it. Also a quick easy way to make rooms look and feel cleaner if you have 10 minutes before company arrives.
Sweeping: less satisfying than raking but equally easy.
Picking up sticks in the backyard and doing most yardwork falls into the "acceptable" category.
I also don't mind leaf raking that much. It feels physically satisfying and you get to use a fun tool to do it, and it makes me feel alive. Here I am, experiencing the seasons!
Putting away the dishes isn't fun but it's clean and doesn't take very long. I usually do this because my partner hates it for some reason.
Cleaning the bathroom sink and toilet. Doesn't take very long and looks extremely shiny and rewarding once completed.
Tier 3:
Vacuuming. It takes forever, I'm always maneuvering around the cord, I have to move furniture and then move it again, I have to scour the carpet to make sure I'm not vacuuming up somebody's lego bits or earrings or something--ugh. To be avoided if possible.
Doing the dishes. Slimy to the touch, weird temperatures, horrible textures, takes forever. One of the worst chores. My partner usually does this because for some reason he says he doesn't mind?
Making lunch for work the next day. Something about this makes my brain just screeeeeeaaaaaaaam. I despise preparing a lunch for work the next day. But I am a cheapskate and I don't like buying food when I have perfectly good food at home, so I do it anyway, complaining all the while.
Mowing the lawn. I did this as a kid and didn't really mind the act of doing it, but I have absolutely debilitating grass allergies so I get pretty sick if I mow the lawn because it releases so much pollen into the air. Our roommate is in charge of mowing so I haven't had to do it in years, hooray.
Scrubbing the bathtub. Physically painful, takes forever, exhausting, makes the sponge weird. 0/10 but it must be done.
