So I have two 3ds systems(my old one and my Animal Crossing XL) and wanted to sell one, but not lose the games I paid for. I emailed Nintendo to see if it possible. I get told to do a system transfer, it will just join them together. Well I either messed up the process, or they mislead me about the safety of this procedure. Oh sure, my shopping accounts merged, and I got the software from the old one onto my new one. However, it ended badly for my target system. In other words, my Animal Crossing game got deleted, along with many other softwares I had to re-download. I've been playing since the release date, and am seriously considering doing some forward only time travel to simulate the same time frame. I hate time travel, but so much of my life went into my town I don't know if I can bear starting all over in real time.... Any advice?

Damn that's bad :/ You can Time travel if you want. it would make up time rather than starting from the 9th and going forward daily.

I don't even get how that happens... I thought system transfers made it so your save data got transferred too. x.x Or is that wrong??

TTing sounds like a good idea in your case... I'd feel horrible if this happened to my game, I probably wouldn't be able to play for a while.

Edit: Oh wait... I get it I think. The new one had your animal crossing town? Then yeah that makes sense... the old overrides the new, it doesn't "add on" to it... Dunno what they told you in that email. ><

I too had a HORRIBLE TRAGEDY!!! My town that I worked SO hard on, I had ADORABLE VILLAGERS! But one night i fell asleep with my gate open. woke up the next morning.... My silver watering can (which i set on the ground to pick something up) had been STOLEN all my flowers were GONE and every tree was chopped down.... and no fruit!!!! I recently restarted and am looking everywhere for my besties chief and skye...

Ouch. Sorry about your data getting lost but I wouldn't time travel because you'd be doing the same steps needed to rebuild your town as if you didn't time travel.

Just time travel, you don't need these peoples' approval. If you have a way to "get your stuff back" then do it.

Wow that sounds terrible! I often worry about my game because I get odd errors a lot, even when I'm not playing in any kind of online mode, that force me to reset my game (one of the reasons I will NEVER get resetti!!) and I've tried to backup my save file, but it doesn't seem to work? I've been told by others that have the game downloaded (no game cart) that theirs doesn't backup either, so they just assumed you can't backup your save on Animal Crossing because so much of the game relies on internet functionings. It sounds fishy to me... does this really mean none of us who have Animal Crossing New Leaf can backup our saves? Or am I doing something incorrectly? I really do not want to find out there's something wrong with my game entirely and that since I've never backed up my save, all of the work I've done had gone to waste! :(

For some reason, you can back up every other digital game's data but not ACNL. So I'm assuming for similar reasons, you wouldn't be able to transfer that data either. Basically, either the town data is so complicated that the technology to produce advanced AI, robotics, artificial limbs/organs etc. cannot back it up and transfer. Welcome to Nintendo.

"Welcome to Nintendo" is what I feel like saying everytime somebody complains about ACNL's online play leaving much to be desired. ._.

As far as I know, it's not possible to transfer AC:NL save game data. Even with the new firmware updates to the 3DS that allow "select titles" to be backed up, AC:NL is not one of them. So I don't really think anything during your transfer procedure went wrong, however the Nintendo team should have clarified a bit more as to what exactly you can transfer and what you can't.

Either way, that really sucks. I'm not a fan of time travelling, but I did semi-TT because I bought the game a few days after release, so when I started the game I just told Isabelle that it was launch date (the 9th) even though it wasn't. And I just fast forwarded on occasion until I got to the present time, then I stopped. Maybe try that?

You could have just collected fruit and flowers from the island minigames. :( That's terrible though and I'm sorry it happened. People can be so disgusting...

I figure they should have warned me about risking my save data. Everything else went well, considering. I had the Animal Crossing puzzle completed, and my old ds puzzles over wrote my progress. I can live with that.
I did have access from the shop to all the games I had purchased on both, so that part of what they said followed through.

As for time travelling, I've decided to just set my system date back to release date, and work my butt off to do basically what this person suggested. Play a couple hours on one 'day', set the day forward, play some more. I only lost the rainbow screen and nook clock, I was allowed to get the palm tree lamp. I can stop by Best Buy to pick up another cat tower. Hopefully after I play catch up, I can find someone on this site willing to part with my lost pieces. At least it happened now, instead of after many months of getting rare items!

I still don't get it, which system had your Animal crossing save? The old one you were gonna sell or the XL?

The screen and clock are reorderable through the catalog, so I would suggest either going to a friend's and cataloging them for when you get the convenience store, or asking them to order it for you and you pay them back...that way you don't lose them.

Luckily, a lot of the DLC is reorderable, so you could probably just catalog it from someone and buy at your store. As for the starting on the June 9th thing, that's a great idea. I got the game on the 9th, but I wanted to get through a few weeks so more stuff was open so I started on May 30 and worked my way back to the regular date. This avoids many of the issues with time traveling. My real suggestion to you is to write down notes of things you want to do every "day" before you move on. It really helps so you don't skip something like finding your fossils or buying out the stores or checking for gulliver (he even hides on your private beach, the stinker!). It was really helpful for me. Don't forget about the bug off during your traveling!

I transferred my old pink Nintendogs bundled 3ds into my Animal Crossing 3dsXL from the pre-order bundle. So the 'target' system was the one that had my Animal Crossing data on it. Good news is, through sleep deprivation, I've caught up to 6-22, and managed to get my shoe store, plant store, first nooklings upgrade, the option for a dream suite, and paid off my second floor, so Now I'm working on paying off my expansion so I can try to get Blathers to mention the second floor there. And I managed to squeeze a mannequin out of Mable, after unlocking the qr machine. I don't want to hear any attitude about me 'cheating' by time travelling. The technique I'm using is legit, and I'm genuinely working my butt off to obtain these things. I basically live on the island at night catching beetles.... So tired....
I forgot to add this, I just got Club LOL approved 'today' so that will be in in a couple days. So I can start getting some music and emotes.

Its possible to transfer save data however the system transfer doesn't do it. It's all still on the memory card. Drag the data on that off onto the desktop of your computer before hand (just in case). I ended up dragging it off again and then dragging it back onto the new memory card. Hopefully all your data is just on your old memory card, pop it in and try it!
