The Official Feedback Thread

Respectfully I don't see any situation where the clown emote isn't going to be abused/taken the wrong way.
I couldn’t react to this with the clown react for a reason - it’s because you’re right. The standard laugh react seems neutral opposed to the clown react. This is kinda why I don’t like people using the skull react towards my posts on Discord.

I do see one other potential problem with the laugh react. While it’s already rude to laugh at opposing opinions and other members’ misfortunes, here’s what else I just thought of. Some member in the future could post some highly offensive joke or video (whether it be a racist joke, homophobic joke, 9/11 joke, or anything else like that), and some other member(s) could use the laugh react. These jokes are already against the rules, but reacting to these jokes with the laugh react may come off as encouraging the jokes. I’m not sure if those who react to these jokes should face moderation too, but it’s just as bad to laugh at an offensive joke as it is to tell it.

I've been watching this thread but I didn't read every post in detail. I have my own opinion on some things, on others not so much, but I didn't comment before because:
1. I'm not a very active user and I think the opinions of those who contribute much more to the community should be valued more than mine.
2. I'm afraid of saying some things in public. I would happily submit my opinions anonymously (via a form or some kind of survey) if that option was available.

As for the site suggestions the thing I would appreciate the most would be user notes. My memory is truly horrible and I mostly associate users with their avatars. If someone I've more or less noted in my mind changes their avatar it's almost like they become a completely new person to me. Even when I recall the nickname I can't really say anything more about that person, maybe only if I see them often or not. There are very few people that I actually remember.

So I would love to be able to add personal notes to other users. This would help me remember more people and give them more personality from my perspective. I would instantly know things like: "this person traded collectibles with me", "this person shares the same interests" or "this person was really nice and helpful with…". Maybe then I would feel more confident engaging in conversation with them or at least be more interested in what they have to say.

The other minor things:
• I would like to be able to turn off reactions from people I follow in the Your news feed. I would prefer to see only new posts.
• Posting with many words is hard for me for various reasons, most of my bells come from Events and one big trade I did some time ago. The 10 extra bells for daily posting was an amazing opportunity for me and I wish this could be active more often, or maybe even on regular basis but with smaller rewards.
• I always have issues when I change my avatar to a GIF without a background. After submitting the avatar image it randomly forces a black frame inside that messes up the animation. I need to export the image repeatedly with different settings until it finally works correctly, often at the cost of animation frames.
Yess the user notes sound like a great idea! I interact with a lot more people during group events, but a lot of those events people change their pfps! So when things are back to normal i tend find it hard to differentiate those people again 🥲
Also comes in handy for users who change their username.

Lots of words... took me a bit to read through. But, I agree...

Bells coming your way, instead of a
reaction.

Don't change your avatar or username too quick or you won't get the bells!

I know this topic was way back in March, but I wanted to give my two cents on the "no replies" (in What's Bothering You') thing that was discussed.

While I would never completely disallow replies on my posts in WBY, I completely understand one of the reasons why some people sometimes do:

While this forum is supportive for the most part, I have seen replies in the WBY that come off as invalidating, and even feel like the poster is getting blamed for something they are not even in the wrong for. I will not be going into detail, but it HAS happened to me. Granted, it may have not been their intention, but even some of the most well-meaning people can come off as invalidating if they do not understand the poster's side of the situation.

Instead of disallowing replies, the most I would probably say is, "Please only reply if you understand my side of the situation" or something along those lines.

I do think a good thing would be to elaborate more on the rule regarding replies. I know some of you are opposed to the rule of disallowing replies to people who state not wanting them. While I understand where you guys (those opposed to the rules being made) are coming from--this IS a discussion forum.

However, it is still important to respect the boundaries of other members who do not want replies in the thread. I do think some rules such as "Please respect those who state not wanting replies" and "Please make sure your replies do not invalidate the feelings of another forum member". Now, I did state that one of the reasons why people disallow replies was fear of invalidation/insensitivity/lack of awareness. However, other people might have their own reasons, so I don't know if enforcing the latter rule I mentioned would completely solve the other rule.

Please note that this excludes posts of talking about topics as such (self-harm, suicide, etc.) -- I think it is normal for people to reach out in these cases. In this case, people are not trying to invalidate struggles or disrespect boundaries, they are just looking out for the well-being of others.

I had also planned to give my two cents on the WDYLL topic, but I can see that a decision has already been made, so I will leave it alone unless you guys are still open to further discussion.

Regarding the collectible issue, I noticed that some of us are even having trouble giving away certain collectibles. Mostly the Christmas collectibles or other common collectibles. As much as they don’t sell no matter how low the price is, people don’t even want them if you planned on giving them away. The only option left is to discard the collectibles, but there’s a possibility that someone in the future would ask for a collectible of a specific timestamp.

... can you fill me in here? It sounds like you are hoping collectibles become valuable so you can resell then? I have been trying to learn the value of a TBT for a couple of years now, and I can't figure it out.

Are collectibles supposed to go up in price?

Is the staff still planning to give more responses to some of the concerns expressed here a few weeks ago?
Yes, we're still planning to discuss multiple topics that have come up over the past few weeks, but could you be a bit more specific so we know exactly what you're referring to?

I think they’re referring to both Chris’s eligibility as a moderator and the inappropriate candy van meme used by the staff a couple years ago, as well as the ignore feature and how it doesn’t do enough.

Apples summed up most of it. You also said that you would be directly responding to what happened in the thread. It’s been quite a while since everything happened, and the forum has had a chance to settle down if that was a concern.
There are a few things I'd like to address in this thread since my previous post on Friday, but I just wanted to make a quick response to this topic because I took a look back at the thread and wanted to clarify what was said about it.
There was also a mention of statements coming from the first “round” of this thread that were never posted. I didn’t quote it, but I appreciated Mistreil’s response on their portion with an estimation of when they may have a completed AI policy.
Chiming in since no one else has had a chance to respond yet -- yes! We are still working on replies (and many of them have notes/drafts in various states), but we just haven't had a chance to formalize or review things.

iirc rosetti was also told her post would receive a response, and there's still been no clarification about the banned user... I understand we were told that clarification wouldn't be posted here publicly, but is there a timeline for when they can expect to receive that?

Even I’m curious about the issue about the ban. I would like to know the difference between constructive criticism/harsh truth and bullying/intimidation, and which one was more present.

I understand staff have been busy, but I personally hope the bullying and overly aggressive and rude behavior will be addressed too. I understand you all are trying to not make things worse so I don’t mean to pressure you for a response. I was just really saddened to see a few members leave because of the bullying and was hoping for it to be addressed even before they had come to this decision. It really bothered me seeing some people saying this thread doesn’t need someone in here when this thread belongs to everyone and really for the mods use. Everyone should feel welcome and comfortable to post suggestions and concerns here. Disagreements should never have left this level where people come in and ask everyone to stop fighting and others saying that this thread doesn’t revolve around them. There is no excuse for bullying. Mods can mess up, make bad decisions, but do we need the whole community gang up on them and attack them as everyone did? Everyone can voice their opinion, but what I saw was not civil at all but harassment.

Personally I felt afraid to speak up seeing how people with different opinions were being told off and everyone was being aggressive.

That is all I have to say.

What bullying are we referring to and who is being aggressive? Literally every single person in this thread? /genuine question

I am not going to call out the people. Go through the thread pages if you want to know. I’m not sure if the posts were deleted. I will say someone gave me tbt and collectibles before they left and earlier they were pretty much told they weren’t wanted in the thread. That is all I have to say. Any further comments, I will leave to the mods to reply to if they want. I am not trying to make the situation worse and was just saying to the staff what I want addressed

I’m not replying to any further comments.

random/vague inflammatory accusations aren’t productive whatsoever.
by all means let’s make this an open and civil discussion but quite honestly your response is just as condescending and unwelcoming as what you claim others are doing

If you don't want to call out these in your personal opinion problematic people nobody will understand who you are referring to because we can't read your mind and we don't all share the same viewpoint. We can't solve problems if you are going to vaguely explain your issue

I'm sorry some people feel "unwanted" in this thread, I don't remember seeing anyone being told to say out of this thread and everyone should be able to share their opinions, I'm sorry they felt that way but we can't control others' feelings or actions.

Bullying has been a concern here from time to time, probably since around when New Leaf came out. We see it as an issue that has been growing again in the last year or so, and I'll probably touch on this a bit more in a lengthier post I'll make here this week. For the long term, it's something the community can work on, and the staff can better communicate expectations about, along with some other topics. That being said, people are free to read through this thread and come to their own conclusions. It's fine to ask for the topic to be addressed, as others have done about other topics yesterday/today.

Not speaking for anyone but myself here.

I also received pm msgs from people who were unhappy with the agressiveness of some members toward staff in this thread, and who were afraid to say anything here.

I think I got pm'd because of my response specifically about what i saw as an unfair 'witch hunt' toward a staff member, especially the nature of some of the comments, which I found very disturbing. Apparently, others also found them disturbing, but didn't feel comfortable saying so publicly.

I won't break any confidences, but it's sad to see good people leaving the forum, and I hope they return. If they do, I plan to return the collectibles/tbt they gave me before they left.

And some who pm'd me also had others pm them concerning what was seen as bullying/aggressive behavior (esp toward staff) in this thread.

Maybe as things calm down, people will return.

Looking at everyone who agreed with the staff members’ posts or other posts supporting civility by reacting to them and everyone who sided against the staff by reacting to the opposing posts clearly shows that this thread and some of the issues have divided this forum. Many of you have sided against the staff or sided with the banned user and expressed your problems, but the aggressive behavior or aggressive tone shown in you guys was why some of the members sided with the staff. It would actually be helpful if you spoke in a gentler tone or listen to the staff instead of twisting their instructions as if they were being mean. There’s no need to be super aggressive.
