I'm just going to say this. The Campsite had potential but man if there is one thing that annoyed me with it is how you invite villagers. Basically if you didn't have any amiibos Isabelle will announce there is a new visitor on the campsite. You go there and you see the villager. It could be the one you want so you talk them they tell you how it would be nice to live on your island. You say you agree but here comes in the issue. They reject you and you have to constantly talk to them over and over until they say "okay but first we will play a game to see if I can move".
Like this idea is just stupid. Why in the world did they turn this into a gambling thing. Its basically a card game where they will make you guess what card they have it can be the Red or Black card (which is easy) but the hardest one is when they make you pick between a Heart, Diamond, Spade, and Club. (I really hate that one). When you finally win they will want to move in but then there is a big problem. Since you already have villagers the game will randomly pick which villager that wants to be moved out, so it doesn't let you pick.
I found out a trick where if you close your game as soon as you see the villager mention the name of the one you don't want to move out just close your game and reboot it. The bad news is that you have to play that card minigame over again just to convince them to move in and when you win they will pick someone else.
In Conclusion while the Campsite is a good way to kick out villagers I wish it wasn't this long and tedious just to convince a villager to move in. I've played this game for nearly 8 months and I can say that the campsite mini game is the WORST feature ever. This is the reason why I had to buy amiibos because at least you can choose which villager you want to kick out after crafting them a 3rd souvenir on the 3rd day. Just remember this the next time you see a random villager showing up on the campsite and whatever day it is and if its one of the ones you're looking for just beware of what you're going to have to deal with.
agreed. while the ‘gambling’ mechanic was in new leaf, too, i definitely don’t remember it being this frustrating aha. granted, aside from the mandatory one, i’ve only ever invited one camper and that was audie, who honestly wasn’t that hard to convince; however, that was when i had hardly any of my dream villagers and so, when it came down to her mentioning someone was thinking of leaving, i had a few villagers to choose from, which made things a lot easier.
now that i have the majority of my dreamies, i avoid the campsite like the plague now that i have a taste of just how frustrating the process is; a month or two ago, i had pate visiting and i tried to invite her for about,, 10-15 minutes before i gave up lmao. i understand that the campsite’s main purpose now is for amiibo invites but the whole mechanic is honestly just,, yikes lmao
yeah I definitely agree that the whole gambling side of it absolutely sucks because a lot of the time I just don't have the patience to not only win the game, but keep winning it until they suggest to move out a villager I don't want to keep. I appreciate how they altered the campsite from NL so that you can now kick out existing villagers, but equally it's just so tedious. luckily I very rarely get any villagers I actually want in there haha so I don't have to deal with it all that often. the most recent villager I got in there that I wanted was Audie but I was only just coming out of my burnout then so absolutely didn't have the patience for it, especially because she kept insisting she just couldn't move away
Inviting villagers through the campsite has always been frustrating to me since new leaf, so I’ve also stayed away from it in this game. Since my line up is pretty much done/permanent I still enjoy checking in on my campers because I have no fear of wanting to switch them around. I think my biggest problem with the campsite is that it looks clunky and ugly lol.
Oh dear, I didn’t know all this before but it sounds like such a pain. It sounds like the only good thing about the campsite is that you can invite Amiibos in it..
Trying to invite a villager from the campsite can be the most time wasting progress in this game. I mean, it's nice when a favorite villager shows up there, but if they start to play that dumb card game and you're about to lose every single time or they pick the wrong villager in terms of replacement over and over again, I really ask myself in that moment if it's worth it to even bother with this any longer. I admit, I'm a impatient person and I rather prefer it if a villager just skips the card game and ask right away which villager they should replace. In general, I wonder why a villager makes it so hard to invite them, especially if they already showed interest in living on your island. Like, how about to stop wasting time and just move in?
My only real gripe with the campsite is that I feel like I don't get campers often enough. Honestly I would be happy if I got a random camper more like every 2 or 3 days versus it being more like a week or so. I don't want campers daily or anything but considering that I'm having a hard time wanting to play my game, and don't find villagers on islands anymore now that my island is full, I would like a little more randomness again so I have something "exciting" and "spontaneous". Is it sad that I'm relying on random campers for my entertainment now? Lmao.
Honestly, I'm generally fine with the campsite mechanic as it is. I think it's on me if I'm only looking to let one villager move out, as I believe the intent of its design is to let players experience as many different residents as possible.
The two grips I do have about it are that I used to get a campsite visitor every week and now I get one about every two weeks, so I'm still lost on why that has changed. Another thing that irks is when visitor asks you if you would like them to move in, then they respond with, "Just kidding, I have friends back at home" or something along those lines.
It's definitely a pain. the mini game is bad enough to begin with but the fact that who they pick to kick out is random is the worst. You can pick when you use Amiibo so I can't see why we can't pick with random campers too.
Thankfully I've only done it twice and got fairly lucky both times. The first time was just to get a villager gone who I didn't want anymore and they picked that villager right off the bat. The second time was my final dreamie and he was a bit more annoying. Took me about just under an hour of resetting to get him to kick out the right villager. Which still isn't bad as I know people have gone a whole day+ before.
The mini game is annoying but it was like that in new leaf too. At least in new leaf you got to choose who to kick out. I don’t know why they changed that for this game. I understand maybe Nintendo not wanting players to be able to cycle through villagers so fast so that’s why they kind of put an obstacle to us getting new ones through the campsite? But then again idk why it would be a problem lol. My biggest thing is just how rarely I get villagers in the campsite. And then if it’s a villager I don’t like I have to wait what feels like weeks for another to show up
I haven't been extremely annoyed yet, as I've only recruited one villager and happened to be extremely lucky with my RNG; Wolfgang picked one of the villagers I was okay with letting go on my first try (and didn't need to play that card game )! However, I've heard horror stories about people trying to recruit a villager, so I understand it can become really tedious. One of my main complaints about the campsite is that I've rarely had satisfying villagers, but it's not something I have control over. It's a bit frustrating at times, but the surprise effect also makes the game more fun! xD
While I think that the campsite mechanics can be aggravating, I understand why Nintendo would make recruiting villagers a bit more challenging! After all, what would life be without challenges? Having worked hard to earn your villager could make it all the more worthwhile right? Or perhaps more infuriating for some since it's only a game?
Super agree, I’m so bad at the games they ask you to play. I always end up spamming them a million times because I’m constantly loosing to them lol. I also find it pretty annoying that you have to keep inviting villagers from Amiibos before they move in, they should be able to move in after the first scan
I love it, actually...gives me a second chance for new villagers, in addition to the island trips every two weeks. Only one I remember turning away was Pietro, but that's because clowns are awful.
the campsite seems really unfinished... from the dialog to the games to the rng .... it's just............ oof ;-;
I HATE the cardgames, especially when the darn villager spams you with them. i always just close my eyes and randomly pick one. it's not even fun. the campsite games in NL were so much more fun. also, one time when Lyman came to my campsite in NL, we did a couple different games but at the end of one game he bought a sapphire from me for 9,000 FRIKIN BELLS just because i won lol. why isn't that in NH??
I also hate the dialog. it's sooo repetitive, and usually quite annoying.................. also, for the Amiibos, they introduce themselves AFTER u invite them which for some reason bothers me ;-; i guess cuz like 'hey we're homies com to my campsitE' and then the villager's like 'who are you?' it's,,, wth
I believe it's been like this since the GameCube, or Animal Forest. One mechanic I miss is playing more than one game with the camping villager. It seems like when you play one game, the villager won't play anymore if you invited him or her to move in.
I miss the Igloo you get when it's snowing too, I'm not sure why they removed it...
And yeah, the games are terrible, it's just card games. Even rock paper scissors would've been cool like in NL and (I think) GC.
Perhaps I've always just gotten really lucky, but I feel like the card games aren't too hard! The anime bear, what's her name, Judy! Judy just came to my campsite yesterday, and I won her card game to invite her onto the island instantly. I think I've only ever had to do 5 games to get someone to move in!
My complaint with this system is just that the game isn't fun or challenging or interesting. Why not animate a follow-the-cup game? Or a darts game? I miss the games on the consoles in the 3DS version, and I've been thinking about that a lot lately. Why not have more depth, especially against the most exciting visitors you get on the island?
