Today I used only 6 nmt and I found Marina! Any other people got super lucky and found any other rare villagers? (My old villagers were always like normal ones: Puck, Rory, Agnes, Savannah, etc) so this was my first ever time finding a rare villager. My heart went so fast when I saw a pink head with a red bow and went to it, so cute and today it moved here

The octopus villagers are supposedly fairly common due to the way the game rolls for species. I came across marina and Octavian a few times every hunt! Marina is really cute. On one of my longer hunts (100+ tickets) I noticed I rarely came across the mice villagers even though I didn’t have any. I also never saw any of the new villagers during that session!!

awe congrats! i’ve got marina, too, and she’s such a cutie :’). i don’t really consider any villagers ‘rare’ but the more popular ones that i’ve encountered through island hopping or the campsite are beau, marina, zucker, skye, julian, judy, marshal and audie! c’:

I've already found two of the new villagers: Reneigh and Sherb. I did have Julian on my island at one point.

My sister has been lucky and found Raymond on her first ticket. She wasn't even looking for him, lol.

I'm currently villager hunting for cats and tbh at this point I'm convinced that "cats" is just a rare villager category -- at this point, I've seen so many bulls, rhinos, tigers, octopi, and I've barely seen any cats, dogs, or wolves.

That said, a few popular villagers I've passed up today include Marina, Diana, Stitches, Wolfgang, Erik, Merengue, and Punchy. A few others that I really like but can't take because they aren't cats, too.

The rare ones are those without an Amiibo. That's namely Judy, Raymond, Cyd, Reneigh, Sherb, and Dom.

Frankly speaking, I haven't found Judy yet. :(

The villagers I consider rare are the ones without an amiibo. I just found Audie yesterday and she moved in today!

I moved Marina in as one of my first villagers and I am surprised how much I like her! I don't really kick villagers out and prefer to let them ask to leave on their own once I get their pictures (and sometimes before I get their pictures). I honestly thought I would have gotten rid of her as soon as I got her photo, but seeing her just makes me smile. Especially since I've set up the pinkest spot on my beach just for her!

Villagers that are rare by game mechanics are ones without amiibos and one with a lot of villagers in their species.

By island though, popular villagers aren't rare since every other island or da will most likely have someone in the top 20.

I found Judy like 5 times now. Dom 3 times. Audie twice. Sherb once. Reneigh probably 5 times. Cyd like 6. Megan like 10 times.

Every single villager hunt I’ve been on I’ve came across Marina and Zucker so many times yet it took me 200+ Tickets to find Tipper 😅
And i just found Coco after 12 tickets

I found Tipper so many times. It's almost the same odds as the octopus villagers too. Cows have only 4 villagers and they are considered to be a different species from the bulls.

When I reset my island, I got Dom as my starter Jock. He's so cute but I'm sad that he has a crappy starter house. On my first island, I got Raymond at my campsite. I gave him terrible gifts (accidentally--not knowing he'd display them) and let him go into the void when I restarted. Now I wish I could find him again, but no luck. I did find Judy and Sherb on mystery islands though, so now I have 3 of the non-amiibo villagers. I think I've used a total of about 100 NMT in recent villager searches on mystery islands.

Sterling and Knox are not rare but I was lucky to get them since I like medieval themes. I also found Shep on a mystery island and like him a lot.

Mostly, my current villagers were brought in with fan-made Amiibo cards.

I found Audie on my third visit to the Nook islands.I think what's considered a "rare" villager might be different for everybody.I have two villagers(Graham and Tabby)that I've only seen one time apiece during all the times I went villager hunting.

I recently found Raymond within 100 tickets. Oddly enough, I did not come across a single octopus villager and came across multiple sheep and chickens...

My S/O went island-hopping yesterday, -- he used around 75 tickets or so -- and he came across Dom, Megan, Sherb, and Reneigh until he settled on Bill (he was looking for Kid Cat or a jock/sisterly villager that he likes). He ran into both Marina and Octavian more than once.

🤷‍♀️

Everyone has a different experience villager hunting from what I've seen and read. Villager species that are real common to some are seldom encountered by others, and vise versa.

For me, when I used to island hop like mad (I don't anymore because I have all 10 perma-villagers secured. Gonzo, Boots, Carrie, Ken, Annalisa, Dom, Sprinkle, Pecan, Agnes and Tucker) the most common species the game rolled were cows, cats, koalas, cubs, octopi, hippos, dogs and rabbits. I barely would come across hamsters, deer, eagles, ducks, pigs and alligators.

I can't tell you how many times I've found some of the most desirable villagers such as Lucky, Ankha, Raymond, Beau and Marina.

In total, finding my dreamies took about 400+ tickets (How Dom eluded me so... And I was half asleep too in the middle of the night, I could have easily missed him)

It seems that the least amount of villagers within a species are the most common, a good example being cows (4 total being Naomi, Tipper, Norma and Patty) and more infamously the octopi (3 total being Marina, Zucker and Octavian) then you have the alligators (6 total being Sly, Alfonso, Del, Gayle, Boots, Alli)

Meanwhile there are so many rabbits and cats that you definitely ought to bump into one at some point, but really it all comes down to our good old merciful friend RNG.

The real prizes, IMO, are the non-Amiibo villagers, those being the sole 8 introduced in NH: Sherb, Judy, Audie, Cyd, Dom, Raymond, Megan and Reneigh.

I'm grateful to have all my dreamies now and don't have to island hop anymore, except of course to gather lots of materials on mystery islands. But at the same time I'm sad I can't bump into random villagers anymore, because I don't have an empty plot and never really will. There was a big thrill and excitement seeing all sorts of villagers and getting to know them. Because of island hopping I got to meet Gonzo, Boots and Carrie, and all the other welcome Amiibo villagers, and more importantly it's how I reunited with Annalisa after losing her way back in NL.

marina is one of the easiest villagers to come by when hunting because she's part of a species with few villagers. though she's popular so i guess that's why she seems "rare"

i found judy while hunting once. didn't want her but i needed nmts so i got her and sold her in less than a week.

Island hunting rarely works out for me, I often find “high tier” villagers but never seem to come across anybody I actually want (two of them incidentally being Puck and Agnes. Lol) I invited Marina the first time I saw her but we didn’t click so I let her move out.. and have found her several more times since. 😓
Like a few others in the thread I really only consider the new villagers without amiibos ‘rare’ in a sense, I’ve only ever found two of them. Wish I could have found Megan! Now I already have two normals so no more room for her.

I would prefer the word popular than rare because of the game mechanics, but I get what you mean!!
Island hopping used to be a fun past time for me, I've been very lucky finding high-tier villagers like Raymond, Sherb, and Judy, who have all been villagers of mine before (Sherb is permanent though!). I sold Raymond and Judy for way less than what they're going for, I was just taking the first offer I got because I saw how much the adopters really liked these villagers.
Just like Zane though, I've never been lucky with finding the villagers I really liked. I ended up adopting most of my permanents like Bea, Shep, Ruby, and Genji because I couldn't find them at all through island hopping.
