TBT is celebrating the start of the Year of the Horse! Our latest event, TBT's Lunar New Year for 2026, is now underway! Meanwhile, we invite you to share your feedback for the forum in the February 2026 Survey. Thank you!
In February 27th's Pokémon Presents, we heard about the upcoming Generation X games Winds and Waves for the first time ever! The new starters were introduced as well: Browt, Pombon, and Gecqua.
Winds and Waves will come out on 2027. Thoughts so far? Discuss/speculate game features and more here.
Pombon is really cute. And Gecqua isn't bad, either. BUT ANOTHER BIRD STARTER YAAAAAAY. I hope it has a fun secondary typing and I pray that Pombon stays on four legs with its evos.
Okay, this water pokemon gives more water/poison type feels in future evolutions.
Browt gives me more angry bird vibes just by the appearance. Would be nice for the grass type to get a typing that helps it further along. This one gives grass/rock for now at least.
Not too sure for Pombon with typings, I'll just be interested what the evlutions will look like!
Not too much shown in the video, but it would be nice if we could explore unwater; something that was slightly done in gen 3.
For a game called Winds, and Waves, having underwater and flying mechnics would be a given~?
I think they are trying to make two very different versions so people spend $80 twice, that's my theory anyways.
Browt is trying to reheat Rowlet's nachos. The starters in general don't feel like typical pokemon designs just based on artstyle which could spell either good or bad things for the rest of the new pokemon.
I'm trying not to get overexcited though due to my intent on not getting a Switch 2 if Nintendo ruins physical cartridges.
I don't really care. This is a 180 from how I felt when Scarlet and Violet were announced. Trailers don't cut it for me anymore. Games do. And there is no way I will spend 80-90 USD for something that is incomplete/unfinished and possibly full of glitches like S/V. This will probably be my first and last post on this thread since I feel I am better off without Pokemon. I do hope that the games are good though and that they learned from their mistakes. Hopefully players have fun with them and like the new mons.
Edit: Please don't tag me because I won't respond to it. I am comfortable with my current decision not to get the games.
I like all three starters, but omg Pombon! It's so freaking cute!!!
The graphics look pretty good compared to everything we had until now, so fingers crossed for a Pokemon game that actually looks good, it's about damn time! Hopefully the gameplay and overall quality will follow as well.
To be honest, I am optimistic about Winds and Waves; the graphics blow their predecessors Scarlet and Violet out of the water and judging from the release date I trust that Game Freak will use the extra time to polish out the features and make it more enjoyable for many players than ScarVio was. Not that I dislike ScarVio (they're my favorite main series games as of posting), I'm just aware of how most people felt about those games and hope they will like the new ones better.
For the starters...my favorite rn is Browt! Gecqua comes in second (though it's mostly because of my soft spot for water starters in general), and Pombon is also neat.

But hey, another water lizard. I was immediately drawn to it because I'm really fond of reptiles, but will Sobble 2.0's final evolution actually look like a lizard and not a freak like Inteleon? Will this hot 'n' spicy pupperoni stay on all fours like a good boy/girl? Will this angry birb get even angrier? Only time will tell.
That water is exactly how I felt seeing the water in Super Mario Sunshine for the first time. Very beautiful water lol but it's not enough to persuade me to dive recklessly into Switch 2 waters. Definitely not enough. But I do hope the games don't end up sucking. I love Pokémon but hate how they've been treating it as of late.
In a way, I do hope so, because I am interested into seeing much more variety in differences between versions. The last few generations kinda had more than just version-exclusive mons (like Sun/Moon having a 12-hour difference, Sword/Shield having version-exclusive gyms, and Scarlet/Violet having a past and future contrast).
I think it looks good so far based on what we've been shown. Gecqua is my favorite of the new starters at the moment, but that could easily change depending on their evolutions
That's what i was getting too, and I'm just hoping its not. It's why I was hoping for a random typing for it's evolution.
We already have fire fighting chicken, the water fighting chicken. PLEASE NO MORE FIGHTING CHICKENS
I'm probably not playing the game for a long time if ever, but if I did I would probably go with Gecqua because it reminds me of Sobble. The others are cute too though.
in all seriousness, im torn on if i like Browt or Pombon more! might have to spoil myself on the final evo if im not already before the game comes out, if Pombon's final evo ends up standing up (Litten flashbacks), gonna have to pick Browt
very excited for this gen! was upset it wasnt the usual November release for main gen titles, but being optimistic that GF will flesh it out properly and that itd be worth the wait
