YARR HARR HARR MATEYS!

With the Internet, you can basically find any type of media you want for free with a click of a button. Obviously this is illegal though. xP

What are your thoughts of pirating media? Do you pirate things?

in the back of my mind, i always feel shtty for watching a movie illegally..but i really dont feel like paying for anything if i can just get it free so i just ignore the guilt

I have Netflix & Spotify but if somethings not on there I will pirate it so quick.
Honestly Taylor Swift I could be giving you more money but noooo took your stuff off Spotify smh *also glaring at you Adele*

I'm fine with pirating stuff.

I pretty much just use it to demo things I have a bit of an interest in but I'm not confident enough to blindly purchase it. I always end up buying the stuff I like in the end anyway, so the only people who really lose out from me pirating stuff are the people who put out a crap product I didn't like.

I also find out about a lot of new stuff through pirating when I go on mass download binges of random crap. This has led to me finding a heck of a lot of stuff I would have otherwise not known existed (especially with music) and because of that, I've spent a lot of money buying this stuff I didn't used to know was even a thing.
Again, the only people really losing out here are people putting out a crap product since I won't spend money on it.

Or stuff that's just no longer available 'legally' or not available in my country. This is mostly just anime and games, but region locking is becoming redundant and worldwide releases are becoming more common, so this isn't as much of a problem anymore.

I could just use stuff like Crunchyroll or Netflix but I prefer having physical copies of stuff. Watching adverts and paying subscriptions seems rather redundant if I'm going to end up buying the DVD/Bluray/CD anyway. Stuff like Netflix to me seems more for people who don't plan on buying physical copies of stuff, not for getting a quick 'taster' of what something is like.

I do it as a sort of test drive. I don't want to waste money on something I'm not going to enjoy. So I illegally watch movies or listen to music or play games to see if I like it. If I do, I buy it so I can enjoy the experience whenever I want while supporting the people who made it. If I didn't like it, I don't buy it. Because I tried it and didn't like it.

Though I admit, there have been times where I "temporarily" downloaded albums so I could listen to them while raising to buy the album, only to realize that it's been years and I never bought it. Oops. Sorry, Fall Out Boy.

Nice try, NSA.

lmfao!

I do things legally as much as possible, which actually is most of the time. Now that there are legal but free ways to watch a lot of things nowadays, I don't pirate as much as I used to. I mainly did it for anime, since you simply couldn't legally buy most anime with English subtitles back in the day, but you can watch most anime for free legally streaming on the internet through Crunchyroll or Hulu now.

I only pirate music that's not on Spotify, and I pay for Spotify. I don't really wanna hurt the artists I listen to and Spotify is way more convenient for me anyway, so yeah. But I torrent almost all of the shows/movies I wanna watch. I use Netflix & try to record them on tv, but sometimes I forget. And there's no way that I'm gonna wait 'til a new season comes out, then pay $25 for something I can get instantly for free;p

I've never torrented any type of software though.

I've never illegally downloaded any movies or tv shows, but I do download roms sometimes. I always feel kinda guilty about it, though, so I buy the game at some point if I don't already own it or haven't previously owned it.

I condone piracy and never promote it on the internet, but I do pirate myself ALL THE TIME. My PC is turned on 24/7, I'm literally always downloading something.

As much as I don't want to do it, I can't help it. I don't earn money, I don't have any source to buy anything. I do try to see if I can get something legally but I can't. Often I do it to test out games I'm uncertain about, or if I'm trying too get into a gaming franchise and I'm not sure if I'm gonna like the game or not, or whether it's gonna be a waste of money. If I like it, I end up buying the game legally.

I hate all forms of piracy, my opinion is that if you can't afford it, like with all luxury items, you can't (or rather shouldn't in the case of pirates) have it. If you "don't know whether you'll like it", read user reviews, I'll agree that "professional reviews" can give you a completely story, but if you read both positive and negative user reviews (and maybe watch gameplay with games) you'll get a fairly good idea whether you'll like it or not. If you still can't decide, do what I do and wait until a sale, and then you won't have wasted too much money. Of course, if it's abandonware and there's no other way to get rid of it, I'm fine with that.
