Harry Potter

I recently took the sorting hat quiz again since I was doing a social post for work and I got Ravenclaw.
Cool. Did you do the website?

I think it’s ok to like Harry Potter (though I personally can’t anymore) but the problem comes when you’re buying merchandise and otherwise funding the author’s harmful actions. Better to buy it secondhand

I unfortunately grew up with the Harry Potter books and movies, which as Cirice correctly put it, made me feel very betrayed when I learned about how the author chooses to spend her money and wield her influence. I am proud to say I have not contributed any money nor positive word-of-mouth to the HP series in ... probably a decade now. Trans rights are human rights, and it personally would not sit right with me if I contributed to that wealth which, currently, right now, stands against these humans' rights.

It sucked to say goodbye to something that I really did love as a kid, but as my moral compass was concerned, it needed to be done. It's difficult, if not impossible, for me to separate the art from the artist, when buying that art gives powerful bigoted people money.

In hindsight, ditching HP did at least broaden my horizons. There is some other really good magic-themed media out there! (I won't derail by talking about that, though)
I get the reluctance to leave the series behind, and I will not preach to change people's minds, but I figured I would offer my perspective as someone who did once like this series, but felt I could not go on engaging with it. And per the staff's recommendation, I am stating my feelings about the series and will not be elaborating nor responding to any argument on these points in this thread.
