I want to be able to landscape it to make it look really nice. My old map did not do justice for me. I just want to know your opinions of what a great map style is, and if you could give me a visual (such as your map) that would be great! I just want some guidelines since I am resetting.

Not many seem to like my map style:

(Map is outdated. Basically the same, minus the house below the Roost, plus a house behind the town hall.)

While no, it doesn't have as many wide open spaces, it does have a symmetry I find appealing. I don't intend for many of the larger PWPs, so that's no issue. Currently I have a fountain to the west of the leftmost bridge, lighthouse at bottom left corner, and two benches: one above the west beach ramp and the other above the pond. It's still very much a WIP.

I don't think the map truly matters, unless there is something drastically wrong and un-workable. It's all what you make of it. c:

YES!!! THOSE! SUCK!!! THE SMALL STRIP OF LAND IN THE TOP! I CAN NOT STAND THOSE!!!!! I came across a few towns with great villagers, while finding a good one for Tartarus, but I HATED the map because ALL 4 OF THE OPTIONS HAD THOSE!!!!

I really love the small strips personally, I have my house looking down on my private beach and then my campsite. I love my map and I shall never change it. Here is mynimage.jpg

I just want a lot of open space to work with, but I'm not sure what to do.. I thought people liked those with the small strips at the top and the rest land to work with.

My personal opinions on my desirable map would be:

1-2 ponds
Left side beach
lots of open space to landscape, make zen gardens, etc all that good stuff
Plaza off to the right side or center
Town hall in the upper part of the map

Thank you peoples! I spent like three hours trying to get it and to me it's perfect. So glad you two like it too

I love mine, though I couldn't fit anything else up there other than the campsite (perfect for it, by the way, I can see whether or not I have a camper when I start the game and exit my house, but don't see the ugly thing at all if no one's there). I've been using the other side as an orchard because villager homes can't fit there either~

I picked it because the plaza is center and I wanted that as a focus. c:

I personally love those little strips of land. I don't really believe that there is such a thing as a perfect map, but I do think maps become perfect from all the hard work and creativity that gets put into them. The best dream towns I've visited have always made excellent use of features that are unpopular on these forums. :)

I have that map too and I really like it :) though I hate that my town hall is blocked in by Re-Tail, a pond, a cliff and a rock so I cannot discover a way to landscape there/place a path that leads to the town hall ;-;
But yeah, in general I love maps that have lots of wide open spaces as I love love love to make park areas! I also like south facing waterfalls and areas that are trapped between two water features, e.g. Ponds/rivers that come close to each other :) good luck choosing your new map!

Yours has slightly more space than mine, but that's cool. I love your house placement. Though...your villagers are apparently anti-social. They're all over. :o

I spent about 7 hours trying to get a map WITHOUT those strips of land. (WHY DOES THE GAME WANT ME TO HAVE THOSE!) THREE TIMES it gave me times where all 4 options from Rover, had those strips, and they all had 3-4 of my dreamies, but that bit of the map made me unable to take it!

I know I would easily forget to check if there is anything up there to dig up, or if there is a rock, or anything. They are just VERY bad to me. Plus I enjoy the large open spaces.

I agree with you there, my town is not filled with coordinating flowers and stuff, it's filled with stuff that is special to me

One thing I love about my town is that there are none of a certain type of rock - I find one the most ugly thing ever

I'm quite the opposite I have filled all my open spaces with pwps cuz I don't like them,

My new town (Wakeport) after my old town's corruption.
I think it's perfect for a variety of reasons.
-Town square/hall/shop are in one area
-Whitney
-Adequate bridge placement (might adjust the center one later)
-Dock is not far at ALL from the south ramp, and can be accessed by both slopes.

-My house (top left) is in the PERFECT area.

It's close to the station, and there's a ZERO-percent chance of villagers dropping their houses on or NEAR my perfect orange trees.

Hm.. yeah nothing is PERFECT but I just want something I can work with when it comes time to landscape.

For me, this was about as close to perfect as it was going to get. I liked that there was only one pond, and I love the way that the waterfalls look when they face the south so you can see the front of them. Plus I like Re-tail being near the station. I only wish that it had apples instead of oranges for the native fruit, and circles instead of triangles on the grass. But it had 3 of my favorite villagers as starters, so I kept it XD

Congrats on finding a map you like! Post a picture please? Irrelevant now, but to me the best kind of map is one with the town hall and plaza close to each other, south facing waterfall with a vertical ramp, minimal lakes, nice secluded place for my house to go, and a decent amount of open space for PWPs.. Not that I'm fussy or anything, hehe. I reset for about five days to get my current map, which i love (unfortunately i can't post a picture from my phone). But yeah, I've seen towns where the map is completely different to what I'd go for, but the person has made it look lovely.. So it really is just difference in opinion!

I could try but it might be bad quality. :P There's only one small detail I don't like, but I wasn't about to pass it up because of one pond.
