Villager order on map

i asked this on reddit a while ago but no one had the answer. what order are the villagers in next to the map on the lower screen? i can't figure it out. i know in New Horizons it's in chronological order. but in ACNL, it's definitely not. not in order of location on the map either. any insight is appreciated bc this has been bothering me for a while lol
also apologies if this has been asked before, i did a lot of searching and couldnt find it

okay i think i figured it out. i think that it starts out chronologically. but then as villagers leave and are replaced by other villagers, they take up that slot in this list too. for example, when cranston left, i got bonbon. now bonbon is at the top of my list. so bonbon probably took cranston's "plot" and thats why she's at the top now

Thank you for the update because this was genuinely driving me crazy a little bit LOL. I was looking up their japanese names and internal ID hex values trying to find a connection
