Hey guys! It's my first post on the forum, basically made an account just for this. Since the 3.0 update came out, I think it's the best time to ask the question. Is it worth to try New Horizons, after loving New Leaf (WA)? Cause I am unsure, after seeing LOTS of comments about how NL is superior, and it just makes me confused. Did the 3.0 make the game any better, any more "finished" of a product? Let me know, would love to hear your opinions about this! <3

New Horizons definitely has the most in-depth customization in the series, and it's fun to see what you and others can do with that, but in terms of things to do that aren't just decorating houses/islands, there's not a lot of major changes from New Leaf. That could be either a positive or a negative depending on how much you enjoyed NL.

I'd say to go for it, and see how you end up feeling about it. Worst case scenario you can always go back to NL.

Which is your personal favorite?

I have 500+ hours each in ACNH and ACNL, and personally I much prefer ACNH. The main advantages NL has over NH are some different furnitures, unbreakable tools, bigger player houses. And maybe depending on personal preference, the background music and some of the different villager dialogues. All else considered though, NH feels like a major upgrade in comparison. I can make a huge list but some of the main reasons I prefer NH, the graphics, decorating options, various gameplay improvements, and the amount of stuff there is to do. While I have a lot of nostalgia for NL, every time I try to pick it back up I can't stick with it because of all the inconveniences that make me wish I was playing NH instead. I would definitely recommend trying out NH for awhile to see if you enjoy it.

I was honestly pretty over new leaf by the end, but it's certainly still a solid entry in the franchise

edit: wait I thought this was asking about new leaf, since thread location

I certainly prefer new horizons, despite its flaws. but really, this is all subjective at the end of the day

new leaf admittedly felt better as a "community" game with things like the tortimer island, but new horizons feels better as a "designing" game imo. so it ultimately depends on what you're looking for out of it
