Generosity isn't friendliness. The most important aspect is that the game came out not even a month ago for everyone, so the economy has to stabilise yet. Also there are new villagers without amiibo cards, so that factors into it as well. But yeah, strangers not giving stuff for no reason isn't exactly unfriendliness. If someone posts in a thread that they are missing something or want something, then there'll be people helping them out. But don't expect handouts when we don't even know valuable valuable items will be with future updates.
To me, the community consist of gathering data and compiling it in a way that helps every player equally. There were multiple people pixelating the new villagers by themselves just so that other people could use them for their signature. If your worry is the economy, then you're just the different side of the same coin.
