one island per console

I can agree, but nintendo decided to make all saves stay on the switches memory instead of the cartridge, it would be almost impossible to change that. I can't really think of a way they can change it, but they definitely wont as it will mean more people buying their consoles :/

This definitely seams like a money making ploy by nintendo. My friend and I had to share an island, and it was evident by the second day that our visions of what the island would be like were totally different. I told him that it's my game and my switch, so I got to be the rep and make most of the decisions. He was always griping about how didn't like certain villagers, the bridges I chose, or the layout of the island He still played until we got three stars and the Totakeke concert. All the time he was complaining that he should have his own island with his profile. I agreed with him every time. Now he doesn't even play anymore, and his house on the cliff is vacant. I am
so tempted to delete his character since I know he probably won't play anymore. I would feel so guilty because he had worked so hard on his house and got everything paid of except for the basement. :( I just hope they can find a way to change it to one town for each profile. People don't have to play pokemon all on one save or any other game for that matter, so why must ACNH be so different?

one island per system is so stupid i hate it so much. in the beginning i got acnh and i was sharing my island with my gf and it was so sad bc she would get so upset that she couldnt do anything without me.

also multiplayer sucked so badly like u couldnt do anything bc the 2 characters had to stay close. eventually she got her own switch so this isnt a problem anymore

im planning on getting a lite so that my console switch can become a home console and im sad bc i love my island so much and if i wanna play acnh on my switch lite i would have to start a new island and that makes me sad like i just wanna be able to transfer my island

Its pretty annoying. I have DID and an alter of mine just started playing animal crossing while I've always loved it. We couldn't use multiplayer anyway, since.. well, yeah, and I would have loved for her to have her own town since shes worried she'll ruin this one somehow.

And we can't afford buying a whole game system when it's still just going to be used by one body so that isn't a fix either. For now, she's happy starting with new leaf.

As someone who has multiple New Leaf towns, I'm more or less content. I did in New Horizons what I did in New Leaf, come up with a theme to base my island/town around and find villagers who fit the theme to become residents. I really like the idea for the island I'm working on and look forward to seeing it all come together. I currently have no desire for another New Horizons town, and the only reason I would consider one would be to adopt villagers who I like but who didn't fit the theme of the island (or any of my New Leaf towns' themes). If I really wanted to adopt those villagers who I've never been able to fit anywhere else, I'd probably just get another copy of New Leaf sometime in the future.

Regardless, it's disappointing that the way saves are handled on the Switch apparently prevents players from having multiple New Horizons islands. It sucks that people have to shell out for a whole extra Switch and copy of the game to be able to make another, or share with family members who want their own islands, or whatever other scenarios are behind the decision.

My Switch Lite came in the mail a few days ago. I also purchased a digital copy of ACNH (obviously) and a SD card

Yep, this was definitely part of Nintendo's plan 😭😭 Like, why do we need to purchase a whole new $200+ console just to create another island?? Anyways, the bright side is that I don't have to be afraid of letting certain dreamies go since I plan on moving them to my new island... but idk if all the money spent was worth it 😅

Yeah, I'm only really against this decision because it prevents me having multiple islands. I'm the only user of my Switch, anyway, so the single island I have already is mine alone - no one else uses it with me, but I would really like to have a second island without having to buy another Switch.

There's been a fair bit of discussion around this point, it typically boils down to:
- There is likely a way to differenciate the game cartridges, so having a save per cartridge could be possible
- Even if there wasn't a way to do that, we should be able to have a new save per Switch profile as is possible with more or less every other Switch game
Nintendo just don't want to put out a solution.

i have two switches and two islands. but to be honest i only ever play with one. maybe once i finish my current one i'll use the other one more.

Honesty, Nintendo could of made it so more then 1 island can be created for different family members. If they are worried about advantages they could make all starting fruit and flowers the same and also keep the exact same turnip prices per console. This would eliminate some of the advantages but allow multiple saves for siblings to have their own island.

Wait.... One Island per console i somewhat get it . But what about user profiles? Can i set up more than just one single profile on my Switch and have the number of different islands to the number of profiles on one Switch?

One example would be Zelda : BOTW where if u want to start a new Master Mode or even Normal game, but still wish to keep your present one; you would have to set up a new user profile on your Switch.

I want so desperately to have another island. I want different villagers, I want a completely different layout, I want to have a whole other island to decorate differently. I don't want to start this island over, because I've already put so much work into it, and my mom shares my island and she'd be crushed if I made her start over too. I wish there would be an updated where we could purchase another hard copy like we could with the other games but I don't think that's possible since it's coded in the switch itself. It makes me really sad tbh. I don't want to spend that much money on another switch just for another island. :(

If you set up a new profile and load up ACNH you will be at the airport getting ready to “move” to your main profiles island, to have a completely new island you need 2 switch consoles and 2 game cartridges 🥺

Gosh.... but thank you for confirming!

I don't share a switch and my siblings dont play animal crossing but I absolutely understand how those that share one feel. My sister and I used to share a Wild World town way back in like 2010 and that was simply awful, we had our own little tasks like id be the one to donate fossils and she did fish and bugs etc but it was still a nightmare deciding on villagers etc.

That being said I do believe one save per console is an awful decision, even if I dont share it with anyone id still love another island just to try out having different villagers and themes etc. I am absolutely not gonna go an buy a new switch and copy when together they cost upwards of $600 in my currency (for a switch light) and almost $900 for the proper switch. I do hope they eventually change this but I doubt they will - as some others have said it was probably done for a money grab

I'm bored with my main island and would have really liked the option to have a second one - maybe in the southern hemisphere, and with the villagers I like but didn't make the 'top 10'. Ultimately, I cannot justify spending hundreds of pounds (or dollars) just for that experience. I also don't believe that Nintendo will change this :(

I hate this decision so much, I miss having a cycle town. It also really doesnt help that new horizons gives you SO much customisation options and I want to try so many different themes but because of the one island bs I instead have to try and mesh together a bunch of different theme/decorations onto the one island. Like I can DO it its just I would also love to have the option there to purchase another copy and let one island be a more experimental type while the other sticks to a single theme...

I would've happily dropped another 70 dollars on a separate cartridge but I refuse to pay 400 dollars for another game system. And I know people can do what they want with their money and its their own right to buy a whole new switch and copy of the game to play it however they want but I see people doing just that and feel sad...thats what nintendo wants, just more money. They are a multibillion dollar company afterall. So ultimately I doubt they'll change it, especially if people continue to buy a second switch.

Same, I hate this so much... I was so happy about having different cartridges on my 3DS and different towns with NL. I'll most likely never have another island ever, I'd feel too pressured to make it worth the money, like I'd spend wayyy too much time on it to justify the purchase :'( It sucks that you can't have another island with a different theme, different vibe, different villagers...

I think this is the only game so far in the entire switch library where a game's save file is tied to the console itself, but please correct me if I'm wrong. I'm echoing the same thing as said by many people, but it doesn't make sense how cloud saves are not supported for this game where it's not taken to a competitive level. It's like things are only made more complicated for everyone. I'm really curious as to why they made this decision. Is it because they want more money from us? Or is it because there are legit technical difficulties that don't make this possible? I don't work at Nintendo, so sadly we won't be able to find out the answer.
