one island per console

I'm annoyed that Nintendo chose to do one island per console. I don't share an Island with anyone, but I would have liked to have another island on the Southern Hemisphere so I could experience both Hemispheres, but I can't afford to buy another switch+game just to have a second Island.

5 switches? wow. no words. i'm not judging but if you have the money, why not? lol

but yeah, i'm not a fan of it. if my switch ever gets busted, it's GONE. i think there's a way? but i have to send to nintendo overseas. so annoying. my acnl town lasted for a long time. i'll be mad if switch doesn't hold up and i have the lite.

It's whatever. I mean it make sense. If we were allowed more than one island it would eat up so much space on the switch. I mean nintendo has always done this. It's no different from acnl. I wasn't really expecting a change

btw i have multiple acnl towns on nintendo 3ds, so it is different. and it's not about the ability to make multiple towns within the game itself, i had to buy new game copies. it's also about being able to play your same island if you buy a new switch. (same for 3ds)

i mean from a money standpoint, it's not like nintendo won't earn from people buying multiple game copies?
on top of that, they also disabled cloud saves, so it's not just whatever in my opinion. that's why it sparked controversy.

wait... you need 2 consoles AND 2 game copies to have a second island?!
ONLY if you want to play at the same time. Meaning, if it's just you playing both island and you are not planning to hop/visit between the 2 Switch islands, then 1 game is enough.

Wait but if you wanted to move items and currency in between the two islands, you'd still have to get 2 copies of the game right? :(

Unfortunately, yes, in that case you are going to have both islands and games active at the same time.

i was really upset at first and i guess i low key still dislike it but in my opinion it's not weird that they did it this way. it would be nice to have the option to have several islands, it feels like because i know i only have one island i have to be mindful of what i do with it, so i'm too scared to really do anything which i know is silly but i believe i would be less scared if i had more room in another town...

also definitely for people who share a switch, it would suck to have to share my island with someone else. i used to play city folk in the same town as my sister and even at that point where i didn't do anything real to design the town it was a bit of a nuisance

I sorta get that they don't want people to essentially get 8 copies with one purchase (even though other cheating paranoia infested games like Pokemon work like that just fine), and I get there's not really a way around the "save data is on the console, not the game" issue, so just letting people buy more copies isn't that easy either.

What's infuriating about this though is how they implemented the multiplayer that they sacrificed things like backup functionality for. The way MP on one console works, pardon my French, is utter crap, and for no reason too. Players don't need to be in the same place all the time if you do splitscreen. If the leader can open their inventory while the others are still running around, you can extend that to every player. And there is NO excuse for not letting a non-rep character move to a new console/game with all their ptogress intact, other than no moving AC saves to other consoles period which is also nothing but stupid paranoia/the dev team's control fetish.
