Villagers asking to move is completely random regardless of how long they have been there. I hope you get lucky and your new, unwanted villager will be the first to ping and "be gone" !!

Awww man I would be devastated. Don't worry though, make friends with the unwanted villager and they'll ping to move sooner than you think. Meanwhile, keep an eye on your other villagers to see if any of them is planning to move. Good luck with moving them out!

So some good news: today my Marina pinged to move. She was my tenth villager and had only been in town 3 days when she pinged. So it's possible. Perhaps not as easily as that, but possible none the less.

Confidence is renewed! I tried all last night and had someone else ping to move but I've got the day off so I will keep trying. I was reading the guides and often people said that you should at most introduce yourself and then ignore them, so I'm trying that. Was Marina someone you spoke to often?

Yes, she was. I went to her house, had her to mine and sent her many letters. Then BOOM, she wants to leave. As if. But I courted her because she had one of those ugly Someone from Anyone shirts when she arrived and I didn't want it to spread like a virus. So I sent her two letters a day with clothing.
