I can't catch a golden stag!

It's my last bug left to catch and it's almost like it doesn't exist. I run back and forth from my two beaches, check all the palms, and nothing. Only the beetles I've already caught. What am I doing wrong?

They appear more often from 5PM to 7PM, at least from what I've seen. Also, if you go to the island during that time and you have palm trees you should be able to see many.

I see them on the island all the time at night.

Go to the island after 7 P.M. Cutting down all of your non-palm trees helps a lot. I usually find one about once every 5 minutes, so if you just do those things, you should be able to find one pretty quickly. Just be slow when you sneak up on it because they get scared away easily.

I catch all mine from the island since my beach at home is covered in things. It just gives a bit more roomtoo, but both are just fine. I usually just walk towards them super slow, slower than catching the elephants and altas. And it's good to catch them vertically instead of horizonatlly, somes it can scare them away, good luck!

I do all of my bug catching on my private island. (I haven't cut down my trees, by the way.) But, anyway, I wouldn't risk going to Club Tortimer where the trolls run free.

They spook pretty easily too, I creep up very carefully on mine, stopping intermittently in between. Also, maybe a silly comment, but in the dark (when I bug hunt) they don't actually look very gold and I once completely ignored one because I didn't realize it was a golden stag. u_u

Okay advice please:
As soon as I get to them, like as SOON as the screen pans to them, they scare. How do I catch one?????? I'm not running, just walking

Hold A while you have your net equipped to "sneak" with it and tilt the d-pad just slightly so that you are moving as slow as possible.

Yeah, that's the big secret right there, hold the net and go REALLY slow. Here's my tip: renovate your beach trees. There are probably a handful of trees on the sand? Shake the coconuts down and plant them to make more trees, thus more chance of beetles to spawn. My success rate of seeing golden stags and beetles in general go way up. I once caught 4 of them in a row! Also, anytime you see a wharf roach, scare it away with your net.

Island after 6 and sneak up to it be VERY slow!!!!!!!!!!!!

I also suggest taking some shells, digging two holes directly in front of your trees, and burying a shell in the farthest hole from the tree.
This is a tiny marker of the max distance you can be and still swing your net to catch the bug on the tree, and if you get too close to a golden stag it will fly off, so I always stay as far away as possible but still able to get it.
