It isn't a user's place to say what is or isn't appropriate for the forums. If a mod or admin finds something inappropriate then they'll take action.
Sorry, old timers, but if a simple word is too offensive for your eyes then maybe the internet isn't the place for you. Period. I could understand if they used something directly inappropriate such as something racist or whatnot, but "hentai" as a simple word isn't call for alarm. If they had a "graphic" avatar or signature then something will be done, but the word itself essentially means nothing without anything to "back it up". It means perverted, and the word perverted itself doesn't necessarily refer to something sexual. Context is a thing.
First of all, I'll laugh at the childish name calling. LOL
as for age being a reason for finding things offensive that's laughable also. I'm amused at the idea that a word by itself means 'nothing' which may be technically true but since all words do have definitions that back them up, and many more than one definition, that cant be used as a solid argument in and of itself.
Definitions that backs up the meaning of Hentai
adjective
1. noting or pertaining to a sub-genre of Japanese manga, anime, computer games, etc., characterized by explicit sexual themes and imagery.
noun
2. such themes, imagery, or works; hard porn.
3. a person who enjoys this; a "sexual pervert".
(Notice that all the definitions revolve around the same subject matter.)
and for the record originally there was a avatar and a signature that backed up the name, and yes they were 'sexual' in context as well.
That's why I personally feel that forums that allow pretty much "all ages" to join, not just children, shouldn't allow anyone under the age of 15 or 16 to join. It's a gray area though because some parents wouldn't want their 15 year old to use vulgar language/read vulgar posts online, but then some let their 8-year-old use the f word. That's why it should be parent responsibility, not the responsibility of the forum admins to administer strict rules, to keep children from viewing material that's only appropriate (in their opinion) to users of older ages. But I know a lot of people disagree from the amount of shocked "OMG A 40-SOMETHING YEAR OLD WAS TALKING TO MY DAUGHTER ON FACEBOOK!!!!" reactions parents tend to have when they allowed their child free-reign on the internet.
tl;dr Hentai is only 14 and understands what people are going to think when they read her username. Kids years younger are honestly probably (no, more like DEFINITELY) talking about topics way more vulgar than that. I know, for I have a 12 year old brother who cusses like a sailor and talks about drugs all the time. My parents let him go on whatever websites he wants to go on and he even has his own computer. I say whatever creepy, dark corners of the internet he ends up on is the fault of my parents not monitoring him.
I totally agree that parents should be held responsible for monitoring their children. My issue is that if parents are lead to believe that a site is appropriate for their children to visit then it falls to the responsibility of that site to attempt to uphold that trust.
Making a site dedicated to a video game that is widely known to be played by minors is in effect inviting those minors to visit your site. and with no warnings posted anywhere that the site may contain material or situations not appropriate for minors gives no warning to those parents who do monitor their children. Especially if someone has invited them to check out the site, which unfortunately I have done numerous times since this new game has launched.
If it is too strict of a rule to not allow children to announce the fact that they are a sexual pervert on the site or to even just imply they are sexually active which pretty much makes them a beacon to every predator near by(notice that we usually have a couple hundred guest at a time, and not all I can promise you are ac fans) then there is something fundamentally, and morally wrong with the site and I have had the wrong impression of the place all along and I apologize for my misunderstanding, and politely excuse myself from these surroundings.
Cheers.
